Best stay in mid-coast Maine
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/31/07
Owners Greg and Sue have done a beautiful job of renovating and updating this classic New England inn. All the rooms have heavenly mattresses and linens, some rooms have flat screen TV's, but whenever possible they saved the charming vintage wallpaper. This is the approach they've taken with the whole inn, keeping its history and charm while adding modern ammenities like WiFi. The service is excellent and all the staff are friendly and accommodating. Location is perfect - just a short walk to downtown Camden. The food was great - we had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant one night, and of course loved the fresh, filling breakfast that is included in the cost of the room. They also serve excellent coffee, which is a rare find! Don't be deterred by older postings - they do not reflect the current management or condition of the inn. If you are looking for understated elegance, dedication to service, and a truely memorable stay in mid-coast Maine, the Whitehall Inn is the place to be.

Charming and romantic
By Robin, 07/31/07
The Whitehall Inn was truly a wonderful experience for my husband and I. It was like taking a trip back in time. The hotel's atmosphere was calming and serene. The rooms are charming and the beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept on. We cut our visit to Bar Harbor short in order to return to Whitehall for the experience. Also, the food is beyond first rate. We can't wait to go back for a longer visit.

Beautiful, charming inn and town
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/07
We stayed at the Whitehall last summer while visiting Maine. Not only was the front desk helpful in rearranging dates and extending dates, but they also gave us great info on things to do/see around the area. The bedroom was fresh, clean with a flatscreen wall mounted tv. The bathroom was clean and charming with a clawfoot tub/shower and dresser. This is not a Holiday Inn. It is an historic inn with a wonderful in-town location. One should not expect a pool in mid-coast Maine nor should one expect rooms the size of modern hotels/motels. Our room stay included a full breakfast - pick from the menu, not a continental. Even though we stayed a full week, we still had trouble deciding on what to eat each morning since everything was so good. Service may be considered sporadic, but we found it to be comfortable and felt free to get our own coffee for refills. We had dinner one night in the dining room and that was fabulous, too. All in all, we would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others. I would not recommend it to anyone who is looking for a Holiday Inn experience.

Absolutely fantastic!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/09/07
I stayed at the Whitehall Inn last summer while visiting Maine for Lobsterfest. Whitehall Inn wasn't our first choice - but we stayed there because most of the other inns we called were already booked. What luck! It was one of the best places I've ever been and I'm dying to go back!!! The bed was so comfortable and breakfast on the screened-in porch was fabulous! The room, food, and atmosphere couldn't have been better and the owners were so kind. On my next trip - I plan to stay there the entire time. I can't wait!

New Owners/Major Renovations make for the best place to stay in Camden
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/06
My husband and I stayed at the Inn early this summer. I'm posting everywhere I can find to let people know how absolutely fantastic the Inn is. That's how much we loved it! Greg and Sue recently bought the Inn - this is their first season. They are making major renovations and changes throughout with a goal of making it a first class place in every way. Based on our stay, I'd say they are well on their way to achieving that goal. We stayed in a newly renovated deluxe room - unbelievably comfortable bed, wonderful bedding, thick soft towels, Sharp Aquos flat panel tv - top notch in every way. It's not a modern room (and I mean that in a good way), but it has modern comfort. Breakfast was to die for! My husband had to fend me off with a fork to keep me away from his blueberry pancakes. I had scrambled eggs with dill and fresh mozzarella - simple, but with quality fresh ingredients. It was absolutely delicious. Dinner was excellent as well - they've stolen a chef away from a well-known local resourt. Good wine list (with good prices) as well. But the best part was the service and the atmosphere. Whether you're sitting out on the front porch watching the world go by or relaxing in the bar, they have created a warm, comfortable atmosphere that makes you want to come back time and again. And believe me, we will!

A Rip-off. NEVER AGAIN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/31/05
Overpriced with scarcely any amenities; no pool, no Tv, no tennis, no hair dryer or coffeemaker, bed sagging in middle, banged up furniture like from Salvation Army. Located on U.S.1 so if you sit on porch rocking chairs (what else is there to do?) you will see and hear the 16-wheel trailers rumbling by. And the view from our room was fantastic: looking mostly at the black roof of the "INN." Not only is the 135.00 per night rate grossly out of proportion to the quality of the place but no mention was made of a 10% 'service fee'---until we arrived to check in. A typical Holiday Inn is 5 levels above this place. Buyer beware!

Whitehall is wonderful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/05
It's like stepping back in time to a more leisurely day and age. Ambiance and food are wonderful (the food is better than many NY restaurants I've been to!). Camden, Maine is a lovely town, and the Maine coast is spectacular. I would recommend the Whitehall Inn if you're looking for a quiet B&B type place.

WE LOVED IT!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/05
THE FOOD WAS JUST GREAT! THEY MIX AN EXCELLENT MARTINI! IT'S THE ONLY PLACE I'LL ORDER MY ANNUAL LOBSTER EXPERIENCE. THE ROOM WE HAD WAS IN THE BACK WHICH MAKES IT NICE AND QUIET. THE KING SIZE BED WAS VERY CONFORTABLE. THE CHARM OF THE INN IS WONDERFUL. TAKE A WALK DOWN MARINE ST. AND EXPERIENCE WHAT ALL MAINE SHOULD BE LIKE. WE STAYED AT THE INN 15 YEARS AGO AND THE RETURN WAS EVERYTHING WE WANTED IT TO BE.

Truly Disappointed.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/02/04
Let me begin by stating that I tried to give this property only TWO stars, but for some reason the website tacked on an extra star. Whitehall Inn is a beautiful property, and the rooms are quaint. That being said, I was very disappointed in the serve and quality of our stay.

The housecleaning was hit and miss at best. They never vaccuumed or swept our room/bathroom during our whole six day stay. I know this because we accidentally broke some shower curtain rings our first afternoon there, and fragments remained on the floor until the day we checked out. Our sheets were only changed once during our stay.

The service in the dining room was even worse. Every morning I ended up serving myself coffee refills and clearing atleast some of my dishes. Had I waited for them, I would have been there all morning. The food was good, but the menu choices for breakfast were less than stellar. When you consider what you pay for the room and breakfast, I was dismayed by the bland choices I was offered.

The one dinner I had in the dining room was not much better. Yes, the food was good, but the service was still extremely slow. (I ended up clearing my own salad plate)

I would not recommend this property to anyone wanting great service. It was a charming inn, but that was the beginning and end of the highlights to my stay.
