Relaxing, wow not a low price
By Aytac, 6/2/10
We went for a weekend and ended up staying 2 more days.Only thing is one dogs can't be on "the beach",pool, inside dinning, or spa.its 5 star for dogs on their website.Food is great but can get pricy, lobster shack is awesome for causel lunch. And the is a awesome steak and seafood resturant thats on a huge boat fopr dinner only 10 minutes. The menu at the inn never changes so if you get bored or picky, you'll have to travel.Spa is awesome money you spend there worth it,facials are awesome.Everyone is friendly and will get you what you need no matter what time. The only thing I wish is that the money you spend for a night here went a little further, since they have realy no activities and since its "5 star friendly".I would have thought it to be nice to have a fenced in area for the dogs to play together so they owener's can have a tired pup at the end of the day,so they can go out for the night. It is great tyo have breakfast outside with family and your dog for breakfast good dog food price a little high again if tyour paying for that for the room take it down for other things. No need to get crazy with the prices. And if your a smoker good luck finding a spot the whole place is smoke free. And for you couples out there if your thinking about trying out the message with the tub.Message yes for sure but the tub isn't really much of anything waste. But if you are looking to getaway for the weekend. This place is lovely, just a little to much for you get, but hey thats just me.Its def a awesome place for dogs everyone is great and nice with them and o did i mention they have spa services for them, i didnt try them but yup they have them. they even have qa service, that if u will be gone all day someone will srtay with your dog for a fee of course.Ok hoped this helped. enjoy.

stunning- beautiful! very romantic
By Babygirl, 10/5/08
this hotel is top-notch. it's very expensive but if u wanna pamper urself and get away, it's totally worth it! i would reccomend staying here with a special someone.. it's definetly more of a romantic, quaint atmosphere. however i did see some families when i stayed, and they even allowed dogs! right when u pull up, u can see the quality and care of the grounds and the building itself. what i liked most about my hotel is that you can walk on the boardwalk and have ur own private section of the beach. it was very romantic at night and relaxing during the day. the hotel provides towels, chairs, and even umbrellas! i did not see the gym or spa but i heard it was nice. there is a firepit outside, perfect for relaxing at night. when i stayed the pool was closed which i was disappointed by. overall, i would reccomend and revisit this hotel! the only thng i didnt like was that the people staying there seemed snobby

mezza mezza
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/3/08
My husband and I loved our room - 2 bedrooms, nice, clean kitchen area and the lounge/linving room area was fabulous. We went to the restaurant for dinner and were asked snobbily if we had reservations. We said no and didn't know we needed them only to look around the dining area to find we were the only ones there. What was the big deal about having a reservation- it was early April and obviously not 'peak' season. Unless you're there for a wedding or event - stick to the off-season, otherwise it's not worth the $$$$.

beware of resort fee
I was about to book my hotel room at $300/night for june when on the 2nd page of the transaction a "resort fee" was added onto my bill. I called the hotel and they said this "fee" was non-negotiable. I believe that spending $300/night off season should sufficiently entitle a guest to use the resort without spending extra money. At least if a hotel is going to charge $313 instead of $300 without adding a separate fee at least you know how much you are paying upfront. Very tacky!

Great for Dogs
By rudessia, 3/15/08
We stayed in the fall to avoid the weddings. Its best to go off season to avoid the summer wedding season. We got a lovely room facing the ocean. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was a little small. Our gas stove didn't work and after several calls to maintenance they still could not fix it. We were a little disappointed because we wanted a nice night in by the fire. Management wouldn't discount our room or offer any compensation for our inconvenience. Our dogs 3 dogs love it and the staff catered to them. There was plenty of room for them to run and play. Our snoodle loved the beach. The 2 chihuahua enjoyed walking the grounds. Room service was a bit expensive but they did accommodate our special request. Easy to access to Portland and an easy commute to Freeport. We would stay there again because the dogs enjoyed so much.

Wonderful place to relax
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/22/07
We go to this place every summer and have a wonderful time. There are weddings every weekend in the summmer, but we never found them to negate our experience. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the hotel is clean. If you have dogs, its a great place to bring your furry companion. It is also very family friendly, because most of the other guests are families. The only negative experience we had was with the restaurant. Apparently, the restaurant is owned by another individual, and we found some of the staff to be rude. When we complained, the hotel was very accomodating. However, the restaurant owner left a message on our home phone telling us she thought the complaint was unfounded and did not think the hotel's accomodation was fair. We were shocked that owner of a business would go to such an extreme. Needless to say, we contacted the hotel again and complained. It really is a beautiful place, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to truly relax. Just remember the weekends can be busy, but we always get the cottage on the other side of the property so its not a problem. Plus, we enjoy watching the ceremony.

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/4/06
Being from New York, the idea of vacationing at a Maine Inn sounded so appealing. I booked here and looked forward to a great summer weekend getaway. All I can say is I wished I had not wasted my time or my money. The reviewer who stated that the front desk help was “cold” was spot on. This place charges a small fortune and cares very little about their guests. I really have never seen anything like it. The have a beautiful website, and a nice location, but don’t for a minute think you will be anywhere near the ocean. It is a lengthy walk to the ocean. Unless you are terribly fit or young, you won’t want to try it. I have a mild heart problem, and the walk really knocked me out. If it is really quiet, you might be able to hear the ocean, but with all the events going on around the place you won’t hear anything but. Maine has so many beautiful spots to offer and I really wish I had kept looking and planned the vacation elsewhere.

terrible - don't bother!
By cipher, 11/4/06
I wish I could have given this place ZERO stars... I recently stayed at The Inn By The Sea in their only wheelchair accessible cottage/beach house. (I use a wheelchair and heard this place was "wheelchair friendly".) No where on the website or in the brochure did it state that there are weddings going on 8 feet from the cottage that I stayed in! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. This was the most miserable experience I've ever had.

Nightmarish experience
By SS, 11/4/06
I had a terrible experience during my weekend stay at Inn By The Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine this past summer. I truly hope anyone planning on going here will realize in advance that there are wedding and events taking place each weekend day. If you want peace, or want to hear the ocean, go elsewhere. If you want to hear drunken wedding guests and a live DJ all day long, and enjoy listening to banquet set up with loud-mouthed staff beginning at 9 a.m. and banquet clean up into the evening, book here. It's all good if you happen to be a wedding guest, but for everyone else, its a nightmare. I spent almost $500. per night for what amounted to be the worst weekend of my summer, and management could not have cared less. On a positive note, it seemed as if they accommodate dogs quite well, which is great if you are a dog or if you don’t mind stepping around dog waste littered all over the property. Now all they have to do is decide to accommodate humans......
