I guess I was one of the lucky ones
My room was immaculate, everything was new and everyone was friendly and accommodating. I had read some bad reviews that made me nervous but I had a wonderful experience. Make sure you visit Becky's Diner and Hot Suppa for breakfast - fantastic!

Nice place to stay in Portland!
By Rodney Rhodes, 6/4/05
Stayed here because of the rate and the nostalgic atmosphere. The room was clean and comfortable except for the loud heating unit. Parking was overpriced so I parked on the street during the hours it was free. Nice for old hotel.

Convenient Location/Parking Over Priced
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/29/07
Lobby was absolutely beautiful. Wait Staff very accomodating. Was somewhat disappointed in our room. Room was small and a corner room. Bathroom was also small. We felt parking was over priced at $11.00 per day discounted. The restaurant food was delicious but slightly expensive. Top of The East was a releaxing experience and we met freinds for lunch and food was great. We had an emergency evacuation during our stay and felt lack of organization with the staff for clearing hotel was lax. There was a prom in progress during this incident and the hundreds of teenages caused a lot of chaos and were unchaperoned. We would stay at Eastland again but would make sure we requested larger accomodations on our next visit. Overall positive experience. The Washburns from North Carolina

Mixed Reaction
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/05
Lobby was awesome! The people in charge were very pleasant and seemed to try to do what they could do to help guests. We saw no continental breakfast, nor were we told about one, but did enjoy breakfast in the dining room. Our room was tiny, but nicely appointed. We had requested handicapped accessible with two beds when reservations were made. We wound up with one bed and a cot in a semi-handicapped accessible room. We asked for valet parking, and 2 hours plus after we arrived, our car was still sitting in front of the hotel. If you need certain handicapped accessible features, be sure to be specific with the reservation staff and be certain they have what you need!

So So Stay
By Kimberly, 10/29/08
We stayed at the Eastland Park Hotel for a long weekend on the "Leaf Peepers Package" which was supposed to include breakfast & parking for each night of stay. Sure enough, our parking ticket was validated when we left and cost us nothing. Unfortunately, breakfast was a different matter. We were given "coupons" for $9.00 off each breakfast - for the hotel restaurant, where the average breakfast was $10+...unless you got the "buffet" which was mostly granola & fruit for $9...we weren't impressed, and paid for breakfast elsewhere 2 out of 3 mornings. The room was clean & the king size bed comfortable. The television boasted "Lodgenet" and we were excited to see a movie or 2, but when we tried to access it, it did nothing. A call to the front desk let us know that they were in the process of discontinuing...which was disappointing enough, but then we tried to find something on tv to watch and their cable channels are limited to sports, cable news & network tv. No movie channels, not even Food Network, Discovery, History or any other "basic cable" channel, again, a bit disappointing, but didn't ruin our time. Dinner in the hotel lobby bar was delicious and the female bartender was great. Drinks at the "Top of the East" was not quite the same experience. Service was TERRIBLE, you practically had to trip one of the many people working to get waited on, and my drink was so bad i had to request another by flagging someone down. The view of the city from the rooftop is amazing and the setting is romantic. The hotel doesn't have much in the way of amenities - no pool or real gift shop that we could find. It seems more boutique-y inside. The location is fantastic - across the street is the Portland Museum of Art (a must see!) and a few minutes walk and you are in "old Port" with shops, restaurants, bar, and the charm of downtown Portland. The package rates made it a good bargain, but we'd probably try somewhere else next time.

Do not stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/11
This is an old hotel that needs to be updated. The room was dark, outdated and smelled musty. The dining area up top was dark and so loud you couldn't hear anyone talk. Downstairs dining area- wait staff was slow and we had to go get them so they would take our order. Bed was ok though. No pool. Would not stay there again!

Don't Stay Here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/25/07
Our room was sweltering hot all night! When I asked at the desk they said the A/C & heat was central to the building so they could only run one at a time. Our night was awful and they didn't even have a fan to give us! The room was small and kind of gross. The best thing about our stay was the continental breakfast but it certainly didn't make up for a sleepless night.

Our wedding reception was here - Don't do it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/11
We had our wedding reception here in July of 2011, and it was definitely not worth the money we spent on it. Way over-priced for what we got. First of all, we were promised the rest of our wedding cake, as not many typically get to enjoy the cake during the reception. I was told by the wait staff and wedding coordinator that they would keep our cake in the cooler and we could get it the next morning. Well, that didn't happen. My mother was up in the Top of the East bar after the reception and saw the staff eating our cake! There was no cake left the next morning! Another thing, many of our guests told me that the food was removed from the reception room way too early, (we had the buffet). Many people wanted seconds but were not able to because the food was gone. Another thing to add - we paid a pretty-penny to have an open bar for the entire reception and were sadly disappointed with the bar staff and services. I was not told ahead of time that taking shots would not be allowed. Our family and friends are not alcoholics by any means, but everyone was expecting to take shots to celebrate! We didn't find out that shots were not allowed until we went up to the bar and asked for one. One last thing - although the wedding coordinator was very courteous through the whole planning thing, she asked to leave at approximately 8 pm the evening of our reception. I of course, with everything else going on and happy and all-that, thought it would be no problem. In hindsight, I wish she could have stayed 'til the end of the reception. We had questions and concerns and she was gone and couldn't help us. I would strongly encourage any couples that are thinking of having their reception here to stop and research other places in the area. The Eastland Park Hotel is truly not the best place to go. You will spend way too much money and be disappointed at the end.

Not As Advertised!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/05
We were looking for a nice place to stay in Portland, and after looking at all the reviews, and the location, we were told by the Hotel, decided on to book it. When we arrived, our reservation was complete, although, for only 2 when we had indicated we were 4, two adults & two children. Our rate was $227.00, even though $119.00 is advertised. Our room was very small, and rundown, the head board on one bed was loose and slapped against the wall, when someone got on the bed, or rolled over! Yes! the A/C was noisy, but well needed, as the hallways & elevator's are not! It took 30mins to get our vehicle from the parking garage, and when we complained were told it usually took 20mins!Our room rate was reduced for our trouble! The beds were made in such a fashion that the sheets pulled off the mattress leaving one to be right on top of the mattress! We, declined the offer of the "FREE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST", even after having the number changed from 2 to 4 people! The Hotel bar, while a great view was marred by construction materials on one side and dirty windows all around. The cheese plate and hummus ordered were below standard, the cheese having just been pulled from the refrigerator, and the pita chips so salty as to be unpleasant. The highlight was watching the "hooker" taking calls in the bar. I would not recomend this place at all!
