I guess I was one of the lucky ones
By , 10/01/09
My room was immaculate, everything was new and everyone was friendly and accommodating. I had read some bad reviews that made me nervous but I had a wonderful experience. Make sure you visit Becky's Diner and Hot Suppa for breakfast - fantastic!

This Hotel is Absolutely Fine
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/09
I got this hotel on Priceline and after reading the negative online reviews I was a wreck... What I found when I arrived was that...This hotel is fine, the rooms were clean and well appointed, modern, A/C worked fine and was not loud. Hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating. Location is great, walk or drive to the waterfront. Parking is next door in a garage and is an additional fee... take that for what it is...didn't bother me... Make sure you stop up at The Top of the East... great bar overlooking the city right at the hotel. I would stay there again... even without Priceline.

So So Stay
By Kimberly, 10/29/08
We stayed at the Eastland Park Hotel for a long weekend on the "Leaf Peepers Package" which was supposed to include breakfast & parking for each night of stay. Sure enough, our parking ticket was validated when we left and cost us nothing. Unfortunately, breakfast was a different matter. We were given "coupons" for $9.00 off each breakfast - for the hotel restaurant, where the average breakfast was $10+...unless you got the "buffet" which was mostly granola & fruit for $9...we weren't impressed, and paid for breakfast elsewhere 2 out of 3 mornings. The room was clean & the king size bed comfortable. The television boasted "Lodgenet" and we were excited to see a movie or 2, but when we tried to access it, it did nothing. A call to the front desk let us know that they were in the process of discontinuing...which was disappointing enough, but then we tried to find something on tv to watch and their cable channels are limited to sports, cable news & network tv. No movie channels, not even Food Network, Discovery, History or any other "basic cable" channel, again, a bit disappointing, but didn't ruin our time. Dinner in the hotel lobby bar was delicious and the female bartender was great. Drinks at the "Top of the East" was not quite the same experience. Service was TERRIBLE, you practically had to trip one of the many people working to get waited on, and my drink was so bad i had to request another by flagging someone down. The view of the city from the rooftop is amazing and the setting is romantic. The hotel doesn't have much in the way of amenities - no pool or real gift shop that we could find. It seems more boutique-y inside. The location is fantastic - across the street is the Portland Museum of Art (a must see!) and a few minutes walk and you are in "old Port" with shops, restaurants, bar, and the charm of downtown Portland. The package rates made it a good bargain, but we'd probably try somewhere else next time.

Maybe before.....not now!
By Tom, 10/28/08
Maybe 80 years ago this was a grandstand hotel. Now the front desk is indifferent. The hotel was very hot our whole stay. The hotel said that once the heat was turned on, they could not turn the A/C back on. Was told that that was the law in Portland. The hotel had peeling wall paper everywhere. We detected the odor of an old hotel everywhere we went. The only cool (temp) place in the hotel was where we had brunch. The service was bad, and the tables were dirty. The workout room was below average. Could not find enough heavy weights for a good workout. Bikes and treadmill were ok. Would never go back to this hotel.

WORST OF THE WORST
By janna, 03/23/08
This hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at! Lobby was beautiful, but disgustingly downhill after that. Desk clerk was indifferent, hallways smelled like sewage on several floors, peeling yellowed wallpaper in hallways. Our room was on a corner with glass windowpanes floor to ceiling. They replaced some window panes with plexiglass. The windows were covered with black mold in the corners. No shower in the bathroom, only a tub with a very old shower fixture that didnt work. We didnt pay much for this room, but it wasnt even worth the amount we did pay.

Wonderful Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/26/08
I'm perplexed by all of the negative reviews. We had a beautiful room with a spectacular view. Service was as good as I've experienced anywhere. Can't beat the location. Overall, a very nice stay.

do not stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/28/07
Please do not disregard the bad reviews this place has received- they are well earned! We were on a 2 week tour of New England, staying in grand old 'non chain' hotels, Eastland Park has had a glorious past, its present was a HUGE disappointment. We arrived at the front door, asked bell-boys where to park the car. told there was a multistorey next door ( for $11), no offer to help with bags or to sort out valet parking, they disappeared as we opened car doors!. Fine. Husband parked car whilst daughter and myself moved 5 heavy bags unaided up 2 flights of very worn stairs to reception desk. Wedding reception in drunken rowdy progress and convention delegates milling about lent air of chaos. Inattentive Receptionist took 4 long phone calls whilst checking us in.. great! Got to room walking down dingy hallways with paper peeling off. Room was small, dirty, dark, again paper beginning to fall off the walls. Pillow cases on 3 pillows looked slept in and creased..yuck! carpet stained with big blob of red chewing gum and generally tired. Wash facilities of toilet and shower/bath in ensuite, sink was in the entrance hallway! how does that work? No air-conditioning either (that we could find!). Went to the bar upstairs for a drink, great views over the town, dead and dying plants about spoilt ambiance! unfortunately drinks were revolting , and mine had a dead spider in it! I quietly mentioned to the bar maid who immediately replaced it, after adding it to the bill! Had a evening fabulous meal, in nearby '555' restaurant.. We left first thing in the morning after a noisy night, without risking breakfast. The adverts trumpet a multi-million dollar refurbishment.. we think they have been robbed, there was no sign of a cent of it. If you want to stay in a dingy, tired hotel, populated by un-caring, in attentive staff, -this is it. I can think of better places to spend my money and won't be back.

Decrepit is the word that sums it up
By Sheridan, 08/31/07
Decrepit is the word that sums up everything there is to know about this hotel. Cracked and dirty ceiling tiles, dark, dingy hallways, torn carpets, old battered elevators. The time is long past due to tear this old hotel down and start over. At least gut the building and rebuild. The mattress in our suite was definitely about as cheap as you can find. The handle to the bathroom door fell off. The bathroom was tiny but clean. The staff were very helpful in finding good restaurants and in finding something I left behind. Our suite was roomy with two good televisions. No pillows were supplied for the sofa bed, although there were three large completley empty closets. It is unfortunate some of the wasted space is not devoted to increasing the tiny bathroom or adding another bathroom or at least another sink. At just under $200 for a suite, it is a low price for the amount of space and a clean bathroom, but just walking down the dingy hall to the room is depressing. Portland is a safe city, but I should have paid $20 for the valet parking in a more secure part of the public garage next to the hotel. Our car was fine, although loaded with first year college stuff. For our next trip to Portland, we'll pay more for a more up to date and better kept hotel.

Never never go there
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/07
The maids are gracious but that's all that is good about this hotel. They overcharged our bill with movies on demand *when we were not even near the roon* refused to refund their endless telephone charges when we were not in the room nor were we using their phones. Management staff there are degrading and bullying as we had to go to the Attorney General to rectify their overcharges, poor service and insulting attitudes. The management staff members are the rudest, most degrading to their employees staff I have ever witnessed in a hotel. You could not pay me to stay in the hotel if that's any indication of their behavior. Clean does not make up for the service, management staff, constant overbilling and rudeness of this establishment
