Could be better
By dad, 5/31/11
The hotel is nice looking from the outside. Once inside you can tell it is old. The tv is at least 15 years old and only get about 20 channels. The bed were advertised as queen but were only full size. The mattresses were very old and sank in middle. There was no hot water the last morning we stayed. there is no continental breakfast and the restaurant does not open till 7:30am. For the money spent not a very good deal.

Good, accommodating downtown hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/10
We found no indication of the bad rep posted in the past. Room was clean and more than adequate, if not glitzy. Staff was exceptionally responsive. On the first evening before a large reunion, the dining room was overwhelmed and the front desk staff pitched in to help. On subsequent days they had extra staff in the dining room, meeting our needs completely. The nearby train was no problem for anyone used to urban noise, but light sleepers may want to ask for rooms on the street side. Food in the dining room and at the catered events was well above average.

ear plugs!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/23/10
first time/ last time...train whistle every 30 to 45 minutes..next morning I ask about ear plugs.. the man laughed at me but the lady said yes they had them,we were not offered another room but she ask what we requested when we reserved a room, a river view or street side ..we weren't offered a choice.. next night we were awoke with loud pounding on the door and when I called down to see what was going we were told to leave our rooms and go to the lobby and then outside...they said that some one had burned popcorn in their microwave...therefore we had to stand out in the cold. when we checked out next morning, we should have been offered a discount..and a free breakfast......it was really a very poor warning if there had been a real fire....we were on the 5th floor. we will not go back because of the train all night long....next time I will surely ask if the hotel is near a track! bad experience for the price.

Unbelievable!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/16/10
I am ashamed for Holiday Inn!!!! This was the worst hotel room I have ever been booked in. It would have been different if the price matched what you received but the price was the same as you pay for one of the casion hotels which are really nice. Unbelievable is all I can say. The room was next to the train track and the trains went by all night blowing their loud whistle which we complained about and the the desk clerk told us the train had been there forever. Fortunately I have never stayed there so how was I suppose to know that? Also there was no hot water so even if we wanted to step into that dirty tub to shower we would have had to take a cold shower. When we complained about the water the desk clerk said "Oh really" Well I guess I shouldn't ask how your stay was then". Also we were told there was a buffet breakfast from 8:30 to 10:00 but be aware they expect for you to pay $10 for that nasty food. The room was dirty and unkept. The front desk was what I would describe as "didn't care" to the point of hurry and get out of here I don't care if you didn't like it or not. We just need to get the next "suckers" in here so leave before they hear you complaining. Don't stay here, you can get so much better for the price elsewhere. Way overpriced for what you get.

Ear Plugs In Nightstand to Sleep?
By Not a happy camper, 9/13/09
One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a hotel. The bathroom door would not even close and the train noise was horrible. They were generous enough to provide earplugs to wear while you slept but I wondered what the Fire Marshall would think about that. If your ears were plugged up enough to not hear a train pass by within feet of the building I'm sure you couldn't hear any audible alarms in case of a fire or emergency. The whole stay was a joke.

If you are a light sleeper don't come here
By Scott, 2/16/09
We spent Valentine's weekend at this hotel. All night long the trains blew their horns and kept me awake most of the night. The rooms are not that clean. The elevators broke down and we were on the 5th floor. For the money you pay on the weekends this should be a much better hotel than it is, its old and they tried to update it with cheap looking stuff in the bathrooms. Will not stay in this hotel again.

Couldn't sleep a wink!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/8/08
The staff was very helpful. The bed was comfortable but the room itself needed a coat of paint. Unfortunately the trains that ran all night long right under our room let go on the whistles everytime they came through, which was 7 time that night. probably didn't get 2 hours sleep all night. Checked out that morning and would never go back.

Great Location!!!
The Holiday Inn is right next to the casino's and the Louisiana Boardwalk. They offered us FREE transportation to both. The shuttle did end at 11 PM (drag), but the customer service was top notch. We will be back.
