Ear Plugs In Nightstand to Sleep?
By Not a happy camper, 09/13/09
One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a hotel. The bathroom door would not even close and the train noise was horrible. They were generous enough to provide earplugs to wear while you slept but I wondered what the Fire Marshall would think about that. If your ears were plugged up enough to not hear a train pass by within feet of the building I'm sure you couldn't hear any audible alarms in case of a fire or emergency. The whole stay was a joke.

If you are a light sleeper don't come here
By Scott, 02/16/09
We spent Valentine's weekend at this hotel. All night long the trains blew their horns and kept me awake most of the night. The rooms are not that clean. The elevators broke down and we were on the 5th floor. For the money you pay on the weekends this should be a much better hotel than it is, its old and they tried to update it with cheap looking stuff in the bathrooms. Will not stay in this hotel again.

Couldn't sleep a wink!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/08/08
The staff was very helpful. The bed was comfortable but the room itself needed a coat of paint. Unfortunately the trains that ran all night long right under our room let go on the whistles everytime they came through, which was 7 time that night. probably didn't get 2 hours sleep all night. Checked out that morning and would never go back.

Great Location!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/19/08
The Holiday Inn is right next to the casino's and the Louisiana Boardwalk. They offered us FREE transportation to both. The shuttle did end at 11 PM (drag), but the customer service was top notch. We will be back.

Do not confuse!
By jonathan, 10/18/07
This Holiday Inn is nice, it is not a high-end hotel but holds the Holiday Inn name well. I stayed at both the downtown and airport plaza Holiday Inns. There is a HUGE difference between the two. The airport plaza is old and run down. They are renovating it now and it is long overdue. On the other hand, the downtown hotel is nice and has been updated. It is located on the river very close to the boardwalk and casinos. There are only a few things negative about the downtown hotel. First the river view is near railroad tracks so you hear the train horns, but if you ask you can get a room on the other side of the hotel. Second being downtown getting to the hotel can be cumbersome if traffic is heavy. Other than that it is a nice hotel to consider when staying in the area. They have a parking garage on the property and shopping is within walking distance.

Wet Mop
By H, 09/06/07
I am staying here for the 1st time as I write this. If you like the smell of an old wet mop then stay here. Its an old hotel that has rude people working the front desk. Parking is horrible and it is dangerous just trying to exit the lot. If you are just hard up for a room, then I would never stay here again.

Disrgard the critics, its great!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/06
Don't listen to the gripers and complainers. It's a great place to stay. I stayed on the end next to the tracks and it wasn't that bad. The complainers evidentally are expecting absolute quiet, which won't be found in any major downtown area. Its worth the reservation and I'll be coming back.

What a dump!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/06
Although the location was good for my needs, I wish I had read these online reviews before I booked at this hotel. As someone already pointed out, the lobby was fantastic. Marble floors, nice furniture, etc. But when you get off the elevator at your floor you realize that something is just not right. The hallways were terribly drab and the carpet was old and dirty. Little did I know that the room would be even worse. First thing I did was remove the comforter and put it on the floor. It was filthy. Then I noticed that the carpet was also filthy. There was a huge red stain next to the bed that I am praying was just a spilled soft drink rather than blood. The bathroom was horrendous. The toilet seat should have been replaced long ago (that would cost $5.00) and the walls and floor were just plain dirty. I was scared to step in the tub. The a/c was fine and I never heard the trains, although another guest complained that the train whistles kept her awake all night. The desk clerks were a bit officious, also, but I wouldn't call them rude. I wanted to say: "Honey, this ain't the Ritz Carlton". Holiday Inn should be ashamed of this place. I travel to Shreveport every so often but I would never stay here again. After all the money they spent on the lobby, they should have upgraded (cleaned?) the rooms at least a little.
