There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun...

When I saw the Hotel Villa Convento on the internet, I knew I had been there before, not in this life but in a previous one.
I decided I wanted to wake up on my 40th birthday in room 201 (it looks a little different post Katrina) and that's exactly what I did. The entire hotel, and especially room 201, has the thickest supernatural presence or aura of any place I've ever visited; it was phenomenal! It still gives me goosebumps to think about it.
The hotel, rumored to be the House of the Rising Sun, an infamous brothel, is brimming with history and ambience. The lobby is small and quaint; the elevator is thickly padded with a fabric textile similar to old-fashion 'carpet'. Room 201 has a beautiful balcony view of St. Ursuline Street and the St. Ursuline Convent and graveyard. The room itself has antiuqes and lovely furniture and appointments. There is a separate vanity area in the room, and the bathroom was modern enough. The hotel's courtyard was typical of New Orlean's style courtyards, and the friendly staff served a continental breakfast that was better than most.
The location was great: St. Ursuline Street is quiet, yet close to Bourbon Street and even closer to the French Market and the river front. When we were there, a US Navy ship docked, and that night the streets of New Orleans were filled with hundreds of happy sailors, which gave a feeling of mini-MardiGras, even though it was November. Speaking of November, it was about 90 degrees most days, and very humid, and I had not packed clothing for such warm days, but it gave me a chance to do some birthday shopping and buy new, lighter clothing. Shopping is one thing New Orleans has plenty of, and even the Villa Convento has its own t-shirts with a picture of the hotel silk-screened on.
If you have never stayed at the Villa Convento, or if you fancy yourself receptive to supernatural abilities or experiences, then you MUST visit the Hotel Villa Convento.
