Holiday Inn West, Topeka

We were going specifically for the pool and water slide. The "lifeguard" ,even though I wouldn't nearly call her that, was so rude to the children and adults while we were there. She made our little girl swim across the pool repeatedly to demonstrate her ability to swim before even allowing her down the slide. Isn't once enough?! The manager came and apologized but never even talked to his staff, he said he was just taking instructions from the general manager. We had a poolside room and the pool did not close at 10 as the signage read, it was so loud we could hear all the screaming and noise right outside the room. The kids couldn't sleep and we were repeatedly woken up. The next morning while we were eating breakfast, my husband and I were in line and one of the waitresses said to the other that they should start putting less food out to get people to leave faster. Just when we thought it couldn't get worse. There were dead bugs in the room as well. Wouldn't recommed to anyone ever, definitely not worth the pool and slide. The slide isn't even open the majority of the time. We will not be going back.

I had a wedding in town and went to the Holidome for my wedding night. The staff was awesome and i was able to get a room with a jacuzzi tub in it. They placed us in a room where you could not hear the people at the pool. The hotel is a little older but it is charming and that is why I like it. The breakfast was great the next morning with the family that stayed in town because the rates were so good! My niece had a pool party there and it was a blast. I held my bridal shower in one of the meeting rooms and it was beautifully decorated and the staff kept everything running smooth even our special request mimosas!

I stayed there with my family and it was the worst experience at a hotel I have ever experienced. I had no hot water at 8am. The room was freezing. The food was horrible and it took forever to actually get the food. I saw some sort of bug on the wall near the front desk. If you decide to stay here I feel bad for you.

I liked the Holiday Inn West because they accept pets, have a cool indoor pool and decent rates. I would stay here again.

Last month (2/2008) I spent 5 nights there and found it to be clean and staff was top notch. I noticed a great pool area with a slide. Dinner at the "bar" wasn't any better or worse than any other Holiday Inn. Breakfast was in the restaurant and it was a "FULL" sit down and be served breakfast. Very good! This Holiday Inn is a good alternative to staying downtown. It's still close to everything as you're right off the 70, and the prices are much lower. Any imaginable food chain or restaurant are located within 2 miles.

I travel to Topeka on a regular basis and have been disappointed in the lodging choices. I decided to try the Holidome on a whim (ok, it was the three story waterslide featured on their website). I thought, "how fun". Even though I'm a grown woman who travels to Topeka for business, the inner child in me emerged. I didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. Every staff member was attentive and friendly. The pool and waterslide was better than what I had expected. My room was clean (although semi-dated), the TV choices and reception was very good (not the norm in Topeka), and the bedding had fitted sheets with double top sheets. Complaints? I-70 highway noise, tiny workout room, and smoky lounge.

We recently stayed at this hotel and after taking the kids swimming, we were wanting some supper and searched for some info in the room about local restaurants. Before I knew it, both of our children, ages 7 and 4, found some pornography magazines in a drawer. They had them open in no time not knowing what they were getting into. OMG, I was soo mad. Trying to them explain to them about what they were and WHY there were there was tough. I imediately called the front desk and as they were on the way up to our room, I noticed empty beer cans in the trash. Not from us, obviously. The woman that came to our room was very upset herself and deeply apologized. Because we booked it online they could not give us any discount and therefore did nothing. ARG, this is not over yet, tomarrow I will call the manager just to remind him to have that talk with the cleaning crew. Good luck if you go there, but I sure wouldn't!

We have stayed at this hotel several times for a state wide event. It has been a struggle to say I have been totally happy. On this visit my room was set at 76 degrees and couldn't be cooled off unless I opened my window. Secondly, the Internet access was worthless via a wired or wireless connection. They shouldn't advertise it is even available. The last problem - their meeting rooms were too hot or cold. No body took the time to make sure that folks were confortable.
