Disgusted!
By bjo1958, 8/16/09
I made reservations for my daughter and I a little over two weeks in advance, it was a mini vacation for us. The rate on the net was about $20 less, when I asked about it, I was told it was their websites promotion, and I had to reserve through there to get it. Make sure you ask WHERE your non-smoking room is going to be if you aren't a smoker. I have asthma and our room was right next to the smoking rooms, AND had two ashtrays and matches. I didn't even ask for a different room, because the customer behind us had gotten the last room. Our room also REEKED of urine ... it was disgusting. When my daughter got up, she went for breakfat (served until 9 - nothing that was decent she said). I complained when we left in the morning, was asked for my email, and told I would be immediately sent a survey, and would receive a voucher (for what, I have no idea) ... yeh, right, I just got home from our trip 12 1/2 hours after checking out and the survey isn't here. Sleep in your car before you stay here!

First I made reservations in advance to arrive at 4-5 am. Once we arrived in Ames we were lost and called for directions, we were told repeatedly it was,"2 lights down on Dayton." But the manager couldn't speak english very well, so we were stuck to our own devices. Upon arrival the manager advised me that we could not check in until 2 pm. Unfortunately, we were there for college orientation and needless to say, there were no other rooms available. After arguing for 2 hours with the manager, we were finally checked in! Let's just say i should have slept under the bridge, it would have been cleaner and less odorous. The room smelled like curry, gas, decaying flesh, foot odor and rotten onions! Please let me make myself very clear, the room wasn't dirty, it was filthy. I was afraid to touch anything. The carpet was wet and stunk, the chair had a huge mystery stain on it. I didn't take my shoes off because the was so filthy, my daughter and I even showered with our shoes on! We slept on our clean clothes to keep from sleeping on the sheets. Do yourself a favor, sleep in you car with the windows down, the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition-it's safer! \

Do not stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/28/05
Yes, it is inexpensive, but there is a reason why. Rooms are small and dirty. The bed is uncomfortable. There is no noise control. I had to call the front desk 3 times between 2-3 am to get the hockey players next door to shut up.

Never Again
By Danny, 6/25/05
Have you ever gone to a dump site? You can smell the odor and it lingers on forever! This place stunk like that. I had to wash my clothes twice to get rid of the onion smell that was in the rooms, hallways and stairwells. They should have paid me to stay there. The manager was rude and lippy. I was treated like a red headed step child! I can not beleive this place gets business. While I was checking in, it took so long that people behind me began to yell at the rude woman checking us in. After we stayed there one night the manager tried to tell us he was going to charge our credit card more since we were not charged the right rate. We were told $46.96 per night and got it in writing and he tried to charge us $79.99 after we stayed one night already. We had to call motel 8's customer service line and waste time from our vacation in order to get it straightened out. Recommendation, do not stay here. EVER!!!

Filthy and Rude
By Mel, 6/25/05
The hallway smelled so bad we had to spray febreeze up and down the hallway. The bathroom had not been scrubbed in quite a while and I would rather sleep in a feild than the bed because it would be cleaner!! My daughter did not wear shoes when we were inside the room and she had to scrub the soot from her feet before she layed down in bed.

Filthy and a rip off
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/05
We made reservations with this motel four months in advance for 4 rooms x 3 nights at 49.99 per night. This motel does not honor it's reservation rates. The manager said they were busy and he could charge more. Also, the rooms smelled very bad and the floors were filthy. My feet were black from walking in the room barefoot. The bathroom smelled like pee. When we complained to the 800 customer service center because of the rates the manager sent us a letter offering 50% off a one night stay at his hotel.(Like we are ever going back to Ames, IA again. We will never stay in a Super 8 Motel again.
