First I made reservations in advance to arrive at 4-5 am. Once we arrived in Ames we were lost and called for directions, we were told repeatedly it was,"2 lights down on Dayton." But the manager couldn't speak english very well, so we were stuck to our own devices.
Upon arrival the manager advised me that we could not check in until 2 pm. Unfortunately, we were there for college orientation and needless to say, there were no other rooms available. After arguing for 2 hours with the manager, we were finally checked in!
Let's just say i should have slept under the bridge, it would have been cleaner and less odorous. The room smelled like curry, gas, decaying flesh, foot odor and rotten onions! Please let me make myself very clear, the room wasn't dirty, it was filthy. I was afraid to touch anything. The carpet was wet and stunk, the chair had a huge mystery stain on it. I didn't take my shoes off because the was so filthy, my daughter and I even showered with our shoes on! We slept on our clean clothes to keep from sleeping on the sheets.
Do yourself a favor, sleep in you car with the windows down, the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition-it's safer!
