Dirty, Cold and mismanaged
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/10/09
Two things you should expect when booking a hotel - clean rooms and hot water. Pheasant Run failed on BOTH accounts. We found food under the furniture in our room and Saturday afternoon through Saturday night and entire WING of the hotel (including our room) had NO HOT WATER. To their credit, the management of the hotel comped our room for that evening but only after we spent an hour discussing it with them. We held our family reunion here 14 years ago and had exactly the same problem - no hot water. When we asked their staff, point blank, if this was still a problem they told us it had been repaired. While management was apologizing for this "unfortunate" event some of the staff acknowledged privately that this has happened before this season. Apparently, the hotel management has decided to cut costs at the risk of getting some complaints. The golf course was another example of mismanagement. We were told late Friday that there the schedule was "wide open" between 9 and noon on Saturday. By Saturday at 9, everything was booked until 12:30. When we arrived for our tee time, we were not on the schedule - fortunately, that tee time was still open. We then watched as the starters, on a completely packed schedule, sent people out as twosomes, not foursomes. We were 35 minutes late getting started, played one hole and had to quit as it was not an hour and a half since our tee time. The players we saw who started before noon completed 18 holes around 5:30 PM. Six hours for 18 holes of golf. And that was with carts! The food, while good, is extremely expensive. For a dinner for 22 people, the hotel wanted to charge us $500 for *one hour* of open bar. For Sunday brunch they wanted $30 per person. Fortunately, there are other restaurants in the area.

Will never go back!!!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/09
My boyfriend and I went to getaway for two days for a relaxing getaway. We ended up in a room with a crack mirror, no air half the time, broken light, a non working ice machine, garbage outside the room for 2 nights. I could seriously go on and on. Needless to say I complained to the the night person who didn't speak english both nights and there was no change. Then complained to the day manager. The knocked a hundred bucks off a $760 bill. Then I check my bank and they charged me twice. I was over drawn 500 bucks!!! And of course their accountpayable office isn't open. Needless to say don't stay there. It sucks!!!!!!!! Plus we seen mice coming out of the Garden atrium...crap food!

Recent stay in July 2009
By , 07/06/09
This resort is awful; the website is misleading. We recently stayed at the resort for a dance competition and were thoroughly disappointed. Its old; it smells and is very dirty. I don't believe they have invested any moeny into this property for a very long time. The resort boasts luxiourous rooms; be very careful. Our water for showering smelled awful and was even a brown color on several occurrences.

Do NOT stay here
By plus3, 07/04/09
The rooms were dirty and my daughter broke out in hives after 5-10 min. She is allergic to mold. I found the staff lazy and rude with the exception of the man who carried our bags up stairs and had a smile the whole time (we were on the 2nd floor and no elevators). Every concern I voiced was met with shoulder shrugs. We left the same day and moved to the Country Inn down the road and had a better room and morning breakfast for less money each night. Pheasant Run is dirty and I would never consider this place again.

Sunday Brunch is Terrible.
By Charles M, 05/25/09
This Memorial Day Weekend we decided to stay in Chicago and go to a couple of nearby brunch places, outside the city. The first one, on Sunday, at Pheasant Run was a disaster: The "cook" at the eggs table could only make "scrambled" he said when I asked for "two eggs over." Who has ever heard of a Sunday brunch without all egg options? Who wants to eat eggs from that "soup" that is supposed to consist of fresh eggs? I passed it up. Next, on the "curving table," he cut me a generous portion of ham but it was very dry and tasteless and must have been old as it fell apart when you cut it on your plate. I took a look at the beef and it looked even worse (all dried up) so I walked away. The rest of the buffet? The mixed salads, including the antipasto, looked and tasted as if the ingredients came from cans or jars. The poached fish completely without taste (I know, how can anyone screw up poached salmon?). The breast of chicken was that commercially prepared breast cut that tastes like cardboard even when floating in sauce, and the pasta was...pasta. Covered serving trays were filled with french toast and belgian waffle, which means it was not used, so you don't really want to take something that had been around for a while. The dessert offerings were an array of standard, low-level hotel variety, and all the ones I and my wife tasted (5 or 6) were without any flavor. The only quality item served was the orange juice which was fresh and the waitress filled the glass repeatedly. As for the environment... uncomfortable. We chose a table in the front of the room where it was warm as it lacked adequate, if any, air conditioning. The hostess had directed us to the back of the room when we entered, but who wants to eat Sunday brunch in a dark area between two walls when it is sunny and bright outside? You prefer a table near the window even if you are only next to a parking lot and the glass is dirty. It was about 12:45 when we arrived and the restaurant was almost completely empty and I can see why. Brunch is over at 1:30, which in itself is unusual. I guess they are more geared to the kids who spend their time at the pool. I do not know how establishments can get away these days with low quality food in an uncomfortable environment. The $ 72.53 I paid (includes tax and tip) was a complete waste of money. I will not repeat the Pheasant Run mistake. Especially when I had to drive more than an hour each way from Chicago because I expected to find myself in a special place. In fact, I routinely get a much better, truly fresh brunch on the North Side of Chicago for under $18. Be that as it may, tomorrow, Memorial Day, we will take another ride to a nearby Fox River establishment. I will let you know. Charles.

Extremely Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/25/09
I had booked the stay months in advance. Was DOWN GRADED from the room I had requested, but still charged for the room I had requested. The food was not worth what they charged the pools and hot tub were filthy. There were people having sex where ever they pleased... it was ridiculous.

Elegant & Affordable
By VirginiaH, 02/17/09
I just had a beautiful wedding reception @ the Pheasant Run Resort. . The food at the reception and room were both elegant in display and affordable in price. The honeymoon guest suite wuth the whirlpool tub was beautiful. While some may find the furniture to be outdated, I found the docr to be both nostalgic and victorian, very elegant. The Bourbon brick street takes you back in time with a flower, ice cream and gift store which offers a unique shopping experience for the whole family. They also have an arcade room and a variety of dining choices which include some of the finest entrees in the chicagoland area. My kids and I found the indoor/outdoor pool, to be breathtaking as you can swim outside in a warm water as snow sprinkles down from the night sky, it is beautiful!! I would highly recommend this resort for your special event/wedding!!

Terrible accomodations; inappropriate staff
By WAYNE, 12/30/08
The accomodations are outdated and dirty. The staff are rude and inappropriate. When I contacted the General Manager Diane Rosenthal, she was unwilling to discuss my dissatisfaction. I would NEVER reccommend this place to any associates. My company has since stopped hosting events at this resort.

Fantastic For Families
By Laura S, 12/30/08
We just got back from a weekend stay at the Pheasant Run Resort and thought it was fantastic!! The staff were the best. We were greeted by a bellboy (Jim) immediately upon entering the facility, who was available throughout our stay and always helpful. The bar staff were friendly, as were the wait staff and maids (although many of the maids do not speak English). Staff at the front desk are also very helpful and friendly. The indoor/outdoor pool is really cool and where we spent most of our time. The pool by the spa seems a little older and was maybe not so family-friendly as the tile was a little slippery. You won't be disappointed with the other pool though. Loads of families were using it and having a blast. I never would've thought of swimming outside in Illinois in the winter! The water is so well-heated it makes for a cool experience when you enter the outdoor portion of the pool and have steam coming off the top of the water (think hot springs in Iceland). The Sunday brunch is well-worth the money and offers great variety/quality. Children under 5 eat free which adds to the family-friendly aspect. Our room in the tower was very modern/clean with good design. The shampoo/conditioner/soap was all very fragrant (I used it instead of my own supply I brought along). We all had a great time and highly recommend this resort to anyone!
