Great hotel, just renovated, clean
The Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber was a great hotel. The hotel has recently finished its renovation. Everything was new or renovated. Lobby area was great. Elevators fast. Hallways clean. Rooms clean.
In the room everything was new - mattress, furniture, decor, carpet, fresh paint , flat screen tv, granite vanity, just great. Air conditioning was super quiet. Didn’t even know when it came on. Room temperature was easily maintained.
Was disappointed with the Jimmy Buffet Restaurant. It just opened up a month earlier. Was at the restaurant both inside, outside, and at pool side. I found poor quality wait staff. I found a few times I had to track down wait staff to help me. One time, I even walked out after several minutes of having received no service, and that was after I had a few wait staff walk right passed me. At pool side, I received this very small plastic drink that cost $9. I have been to Key West and Myrtle Beach and found those restaurants great.
Go to the Cheesecake Factory across the street if you want great food, great selection, and great staff. You will need to go early, the lines are long - that it how great it is.
I also attended at the hotel Polynesian Magic Show. It was okay. Food was adequate. Show was adequate. It is a magic show with a little hawaiian dancing through in between the acts. In fact, don’t bother going. If you want a better show, go passed the International Market Place to the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel. It is called “Creations.” It is a great luau, with great buffet food, and a great hawaiian show. You will enjoy it better.
And if you need any side trips around town, go to Expedia in the hotel lobby. They have a desk with a very efficient staff. Prices are great too.
Also, the hotel bell service was great in getting you a quick taxi, or for getting information. I found the jewelry store prices great. You got the same price that you get at the International Market Place, but you don’t have to haggle for the price (but haggling for the price is fun too). So buy from both places.
The hotel gift shop/pantry had reasonable prices if you need drinks/milk/sandwich. Everything is priced higher than on mainland, but the hotel pantry is just as cheap as the grocery store a few blocks away.
Beach - you just go across the street to the Cheesecake Factory, and right beside that is the beach access walk. In a very quick walk (length of an average hotel), you are standing on Waikiki Beach.
Bottom line- GREAT HOTEL. I even walked by the other hotels I was considering for the same price - Miramar, Ohana West, Ohana East. I KNOW I made the correct decision in selecting the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber for its cleanliness, price, location, great staff, and just renovated.
I would go back tomorrow.
