I keep coming back...
By Happy Customer, 3/31/09
Really nice property that has pretty much avoided the travails of time - have stayed here several times over the last 10 years. Nice pool areas, short walk to the beach. Staff is wonderfully friendly and responsive; parking is close in to the buildings. Great coffee/muffins in the a.m. near the front desk. Kitchens are well stocked with pots, pans, coffee maker, toaster, 4-top burner/oven, microwave, dishes, glassware, and utensils. Has always been nice and quiet when I've been there. Short hop to the 2 Kapaa groceries and other shopping. Adjacent to Coconut Plantation shopping & restaurants. Lappert's is a MUST!

My favorite place to stay
By KENNETHR, 3/17/09
During a recent trip, we stayed at hotels that were fancier and more expensive; but the Plantation Hale was our favorite. The hotels offers three pools and a few vending machines, and that is about it. However, everything else that you'll need is a short distance away. The hotel is clean and quiet. The through-wall air conditioner is a little noisy, but once you get used to that, all was fine. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will not hesitate to return.

Roaches
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/19/08
We have a daughter that just turned 1 year. She still alternates between walking and crawling. The carpet had multiple stains and we had to kill atleast 1 cockroach per day. Just not clean enough for a child that still puts her fingers and other things in her mouth. When my husban called to complain, he was told that they were full and that they would "try" to send someone out to spray. I don't believe that accured during our stay. Please don't come here if you have kids, or if you like a clean environment.

Economical Luxury in Paradise
By Linda, 2/24/07
We spent a week here and were VERY happy with our choice. The suite is really a small apartment with full and fully equipped kitchen, eat-in bar, dining table, living room, spacious bedroom with two queen beds, nice bathroom with large fluffy towels, soap, shampoo and amenities, and plenty of hot water. The unit is cleaned daily, beds made, fresh towels and toiletries left. The hotel is a short stroll to a lovely beach, but also has three heated pools and two hot tubs. Hotel is conveniently located to a nice shopping complex with a restaurant, a GREAT LUAU a short walk away, and an additional restaurant, all not even needing a drive. The close-by hotel also has a day spa. Also very convenient to the airport and one of the best locations for jumping off to explore the North Shore. The suite is not very fancy, but is immaculately clean and overlooks a grassy garden area. Free High Speed Internet is included, with a convenient area at the bar to hook up. Although close to the highway, the units are well built and high way noise is not intrusive. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

Plantation Hale-Very Cool Place
By Fabler, 8/24/06
The Plantation Hale staff is very kind, understanding, and very accommodating. My daughter, Kris and I had been given a certificate to receive free days to stay beginning August 19-21, 2006 at this Best Western due to staying at the Kauai Beachboy located across the street and checking out the Shell Vacations Beachboy resort property. The Plantation Hale has three swimming pools, two hot tub spas, and bar-b-que grills to cook your food by the swimming pool. Across from our J-4 condo was the swimming pool-very cool place to chill out and very convenient. There are outdoor showers to rinse off sand from your day's adventures exploring the Kauai beaches or removing all that red dirt from hiking the Kauai jungle interior. Parking our Alamo rental car (Priceline price is $17.00 per day!) is right outside our front door. I also understand that you may buy a one bedroom from the Plantation Hale fee simple. The one bedroom condos are considerably smaller than the Kauai Beachboy and their furniture is retro-1980's. The kitchen has ample kitchen cabinets for storing your dry food, stainless steel sink with H20 sprayer, a stove, regular size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, silverware, salt/pepper (bring your other spices with you), cookware, and cooking utensils. Sorry, no automatic dishwasher here-you wash your own dishes like you do at home. The living room is very comfortable with a cable ready color tv, a bar seating for two, dining table with four chairs located in the same area, sliding door leading to covered porch area to swimming pool and internet connection for your laptop (please bring your own ethernet cable or you may check out a cable from the front desk-make sure you return the ethernet cable or you will be billed $25.00!). The bedrooms has two full size beds, cable ready color tv, a nice size safe to store your valuables (sign out a key from the front desk for $1.50 per day), a large dresser to put your clothes, a large closet with mirrors on both sliding doors, and a sliding door access to porch and swimming pool. Overall, the Plantation Hale's condos make you feel at home. There are no washers or dryers inside the condo, but their are laundry facilities on the property, so please make sure you bring a roll of quarters with you. The staff will give you beach towels to use on your beach adventures, but please make sure you return the towels or be charged $25.00 per towel. Since Kris and I had a red-eye flight on August 21, 2006, the Best Western staff let us stay intil 6:00 PM on August 21st and only charged me $50.00 for the overtime stay. It was well worth the money spent because it allowed us to leave our luggage and our valuables in the safe, time to catch up on last minute shopping, visiting my favorite beach=Kalihiwai Bay Beach (Shhhh! Please do not tell too many people-this beach is a local hang out! Gorgeous beach for sun tanning, snorkeling, and diving . . . surfing 1/4 mile from shore) to get in our last bit of our Kauaiian tan sealed before heading back to the mainland, and of course get more scenic pics of my favorite beach besides Anini Beach. I give the Plantation Hale-shaka! Awesome and very cool place to stay.

Great location
By n8t, 7/4/06
I was able to find a great price for a 6-day stay ahead of arriving and it ended up being perfect. Not only did it provide a suite bigger than my needs (full kitchen, etc.), but the location was ideal--near the Coconut Market and a Safeway down the road to stock your kitchen for a week. Between Waimea in the south and Hanalei in the north, you're never too far from the sites. Kauai is beautiful--don't miss Waimea Canyon, the Na Pali coast and Kalalau trail, and a helicopter trip into Waialeale.

maybe we'll be back?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/27/06
We went to Plantation Hale from 2-11-06 to 2-24-06 this was our 3rd stay there in 10 years, the previous was 8yrs. ago. The traffic noise is horrible, almost non-stop. The rooms are nice and housekeeping excellent.however, check for pricing, we payed 150.00 a night while others payed 120.00 a night. one Canadian was getting her room for 85.00 a night. also, if you smoke make sure to get a smoking room. we smoke but not indoors even in our own home, we were in a no smoking rm. and the front desk would'nt even send us an ashtray for use outside, we went and bought one. If you do smoke, stay away from room D3 an old woman lives there and makes snide remarks about it.

We've been TWICE and LOVE it!
By married2mrwright, 1/24/06
I've stayed at the Pono Kai in Kappaa many times but love the Plantation Hale more! It's an awesome value for those who don't want or need snooty resort service of the bigger hotels. The Plantation Hale is in the most ideal location, you can walk to the Plantation Market Place for eats, treats and shopping. And the Hukilau Lani is also a short walk across the parking lot...they have the best food! So close to everything and large enough to accomodate a couple, a couple with children or two couples travelling together. I cannot recommend this place enough, you get a great place to stay and money left over for more fun on the island.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/5/06
I like most the room, kitchen and the silence of the Plantation Hale. We are an 65 Years old family and we do like the silence of this Hotel If you would by something there are only 5 min. away a Safeway and a Foodland market. And the Coconut Plaza just one min. away. There You can buy nealy all things. It is a good place to start excursions. Do not miss a heli-flight to the Napali Coast. (sorry for my english) i come from Europa
