One of only two places I stay in Columbus
I am frequently in Columbus, and I'll only stay at 2 places when I'm there...either the Columbus Marriott or the Hampton Inn on the 280 Bypass in Phenix City. The Hampton has slightly more luxurious rooms and has several convenience stores and fast food places nearby. However, the Marriott has several advantages of its own. For one, the Marriott has outstanding room service choices (the Hampton does not offer room service) and Houlihan's restaurant is located in the hotel lobby (they have one of the best steaks I've ever had). The staff at both locations (to include the wait staff at Houlihan's) are extremely efficient, helpful, and courteous. I also utilized the send out dry cleaning services at both hotels, and was very satisfied with the results. For me, though, the biggest draw to the Marriott is its location in the newly revived Downtown Columbus area. The hotel is located just 2 blocks from several popular bars and restaurants. Both hotels price in the low hundreds ($80-$90 with a military discount). The Hampton is brand new, and I've only stayed there once, so it is hard to say what its normal occupancy is, but I doubt it fills up often. The Marriott, however, is frequently booked solid do to local conventions and Ft. Benning graduations, so reserve early.
