It was a good Hotel in its day
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/09
I have been going to Key Biscayne since 1982. The Bartender at the pool was the best ever.Always remembered us from yr to yr. The hotel has been closed and the key staff have been moved to coconut Grove.

100% better than ritz carlton!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/4/08
we went on our honeymoon. It was perfect the beach was perfect. The bar had the best pina coladas i have ever had. they had great atmosphere and were beyond friendly. The ritz had no tiki hut bars, hammocks or a good atmosphere. Also the drinks STRONG and alot of money. not impressed. but if you want a great vacation try the sonesta.5 stars!!!! I would go back in a second. as a matter of fact i'm going to book another weekend trip for 4th of july weekend.

Donald should be ashamed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/15/08
This has got to be the absolute worst hotel I've been in for some time. I was suprised this hotel has the name "trump" on it. The rooms look like something you would expect to see along interstate 95. The bathrooms were dingy. Peeling paint, rust and dirty shower doors. The carpet was musty and the bedding needs replacing.I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for upscale acomodations.

Never Again!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/20/06
First of all, directions from Miami Int'l. Once you get to Key Biscayne, directions say to turn on Ocean Drive. Well, well, you drive on Crandon, turn on Sonesta Drive and THEN you get to Ocean Dr. Valet parking is $18/nightly and you have no option here for self parking. Upon checkin, I was informed that they needed a $100/night deposit for our stay. I refused to pay it as my trip was prepaid, in full. The front desk was very rude about it and insisted that I call my bank so I could make the deposit. I refused. They then decided that they could go ahead and let me have the room, but I HAD to give them a $100 deposit, but then I could not charge anything to the room since I would not leave a full deposit. When asked about local restaurants, they told me about their on site ones, and told me that there were only two places locally. HA! Looked on the internet and found several places with a great variety of food off site. Had a problem with dialing out on the phone and the front desk told me that there was nothing they could do and it was not their problem. To make a local call, you must dial 9-1-##, which makes it a long distance call and I called two blocks away! Beach is horrid!! Very gray water, tons of seaweed, cigarette butts, food scraps, litter. The picture on their site is a complete opposite of what it really looks like. Not many activities. Had to travel for that. YUK!!!

Disappointing experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/06
Our recent short vacation to Key Biscayne was almost ruined by our stay at the Sonesta. Key Biscayne is a very beautiful place, but find another hotel. This one is awful. We were scheduled to stay 7/2 to 7/6; however we checked out on the morning of the 4th and went to the Ritz Carlton, which is very lovely; at the Sonesta, on the 3rd, the toilet in our room backed up twice; water was pouring down the bathroom wall. Both of these problems were fixed, but without one word from anyone to us. On the morning of the 4th, we attempted to go to the beach (the reason for the trip), but there were no chairs or umbrellas available; The pool area, which is loud, dirty and crowded, also had no available chairs. When we approached the manager, "Ronnie," about all of this, he simply smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said "Its July 4th." If the hotel can't accommodate guests during holiday periods, they should not rent out the rooms! I understand that this is the hotel's last year in business and, unfortunately, the employees act accordingly. Last, but not least, after we had left the Sonesta, we attempted to use one of our credit cards and it was declined. Upon calling our bank we were notified that the Sonesta had placed a $1,100.00 hold on it! We contacted the Sonesta and were told that it was a mistake and would be taken care of immediately. At this time and date, the hold is still there.

Not for families
By John, 3/6/06
It is a beautiful place and great location. We have 12 and 11 year old children who were bored and ready to leave. The atmosphere was not welcoming or comfortable to us. It was very business and professional, not at all welcoming to families. We did enjoy the hamacks, the pool, the tennis courts and the food (which was very pricey). The service was good. The beach was covered in seaweed which smelled. The water sport rentals on the beach helped to entertain our children. We highly recommend the Jewelry with Judy. Be sure to check out the other beaches, we especially liked the one by the lighthouse. Overall, we would not return. Too pricey and unwelcoming, not a good value.

Wouldn't go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/05
We planned to spend the week of Aug 13th-20th at Sonesta Key Biscayne, and after two days we transferred to the Trump International Sonesta in Sunny Isles (north of Miami) The beach at Key Biscayne had TONS of sea grass and weeds washing in and you really couldn't swim in it. The drinks at the pool bar are STRONG. The Mayor of Key Biscayne recently outlawed ALL watersports (jetskis, catamarans, kayaks, you name it) and with a 14 year old, we ran out of things to do and FAST....I would urge you to move a little north of Miami to the Trump where the beach is much cleaner and there's plenty of watersports/activities. The Trump Hotel is also extremely close to Aventura Mall, which is an extremely nice mall. I would not recommend the Key Biscayne Sonesta and will not return. The only good thing about the hotel is it had a nice pool and they were pretty flexible with us moving.

Sonesta in the water
By Cristina, 5/18/05
The Sonesta Beach Resort in Key Biscayne is a pleasent hotel to have some great vacations near the sea. The good thing about it is its location. It is only 15 minutes away from downtown Miami and at the same time it is isolated from the everyday busy life. Ther service offer by Sonesta is exceptional. The pool, the sea, the restaurants and the rooms are of a high rated value. Sonesta near the sea is the perfect place to be specially on Summer.
