GREAT VALUE!
By Kristina, 2/1/12
I stay in the same room as my son has special needs and needs routine. We have been in that same room, since we live only beachside a few hours south, it feels like we live in this room. I noticed the window in the bathroom was broken 3 years ago and it is semi-repaired. The sink clogged in November 2011 and I do actually often wonder if the staff does clean the linens though when I do go outside to smoke I see the hired help cleaners talking and they smile (are friendly) and doing the laundry. So, I would suspect that they would change the linens. I absolutely LOVE the new renovations which surprised me our 10th visit in 2011 with upgrades to a fridge, that does NOT stay even cool, so bring your cooler with ice from home to keep your food from spoiling, no sense in having the mini-fridges in your room since they are always not even cool. The air and heat work great, the rooms are nice and neat, the new wall painting and microwave upgrades are fantastic and BEWARE OF THE SUGAR ANTS. LEAVE NOTHING EXPOSED THAT IS FOOD. In November 2011 the ants in our bathroom were aweful! This trip it was our fault as we left a smudge of syrup on the end table and the little ants came out of nowhere by the thousands. Anyhow, the front staff has always been excellent until I called to book our reservation again for this weekend and the young boy was a total jerk trying to throw me off the phone. This is the first terrible and only terrible experience with front desk staff. Everyone else has been amazing and very helpful. I LOVE THE INN AND WILL KEEP GIVING THEM TIME TO CONTINUE UPGRADING AS THEY ARE DOING. YOU CAN'T BEAT THE VIEW, THE QUAINTNESS, THE PROXIMITY TO EVERYTHING IN OLD TOWN AND THE HOMELIKE FEELING. THE POOL IS ALWAYS SPOTLESS AND MAINTAINED AS WELL JUST WASH YOUR SWIMMIES WHEN YOU ARE DONE SO THEY DON'T STAIN FROM CHLORINE. GREAT HOTEL TRYING TO MOVE UP.

THE WORST EVER!!!! DONT STAY HERE WARNING
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/6/11
We have been visiting the hotel for many, many years. In the past it has been "okay" but, this is the LAST time. The room was so dirty we had to wash our feet with washcloths every time we stepped on the floor. It was disgusting and I’m NOT exaggerating. The sinks don't drain nor the tub while you are taking a shower, there were no cover plates over the electrical outlets, we had children with us and this was a major fire hazard. The remote control did not work; the towels stunk like mold and were VERY dingy. The room was dusty, and the bathroom shower curtain looked like someone walked all over it with foot prints (very strange). It was just plain grimy. You are required to pay for parking; however they block you in the parking lot so you can’t leave. I was trapped every night from leaving the hotel forced to walk to dinner rather than getting in my car; which is not a big deal if you planned on eating around the area, however we had plans to go beach side to eat and could not. Thank God I didn’t not have to leave the hotel for any emergency. They should not take your money or let you park in there lot once all the regular spots are taken; what if there was a fire???? Fair warning….. You will spend more money getting bed bugs out of your home then you would save money staying in this hotel. This was hard for me to write because we have stayed in this hotel for years and years and although it has never been the best it has slowly but SURLEY gotten uninhabitable.

Will NEVER stay here again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/2/11
The location of this hotel is great, but the money you save on staying at a cheaper hotel will quite possibly be spent in ridding your clothing of bed bugs. I strongly advise you to check the beds & floors throughly for these nasty bugs if you decide to stay here. This hotel was absolutely the dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed in. It smelled of mildew, which wasn't surprising since the sink leaked and soaked the carpet. On top of all that, the staff booked our rooms for the wrong date an left my group in a bind while we decided who would sleep on roll away beds.

Filthy Motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/26/11
We have visited St. Augustine for more than 30 years and stayed at the Monterey many times. It was outdated, but used to be fairly clean. However, this last visit was our very last visit to this dump! The room was absolutely filthy, dust all over, bathroom dirty, broken lamp, dirty bedspread, stains on sheets, etc. We were made to wait until almost 5pm to check in. The housekeeping staff was so busy gossiping with each other. We saw other people pull up check in and get a room while we were being stared at by the staff. When they finally cleaned our room it only took 10 minutes while it took over an hour to clean the room next to ours. The staff is very rude and the cost of the rooms have more than doubled in price plus they charge just to park your car. We will never return to his hotel again. It is truely the dirtiest motel i have ever been in!

Don't stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/9/10
My husband and I planned a 4 day, 3 night vacation and stayed here because it was located right down town, we knew it was older, but like the city thought it would be quant. We paid for the hotel a month in advance, when we got there, we had a queen bed instead of a king and were told they didn't have a king avail. Since we had already paid, and it was the week-end, we were stuck. The place was must, there was a big patch in the wall where there had been a hole, no smoke alarm, and a cracked bathroom sink with the tinyest bathroom. Only a stand up shower that you could barely turn around. And here is the best part...the hotel charges you $22.00 to park in the parking lot of the hotel even if you are a guest there. Will NEVER go back.

Never again
By ACM, 7/8/09
This place was absolutly filthy. When we got into our room, there was a bathing suit in the bathroom. When we took it to the front desk they told us that the bathroom must not have been cleaned, since they are having staffing issues, as they explained. So, we had to scrub the bathroom with Clorox wipes. When I went to get a shower, the drain was clogged. After finishing knee deep in water, I went back to the front desk. A day later the shower was fixed, if you consider the drain plug laying on the side of the tub fixed. The room smelled very musty, my allergies went crazy the entire time we were there. There was no chain lock on our door that looked ancient anyway, with a slit around the entire door that you could stick something through. The lamp was broken in our room, they never came to fix it either. In the room next to us, their clock, iron, and blow dryer were missing. The location was great but does not make it worth the money. When I have to sleep with my own blanket because I am not sure what is on their comforter, I will never again stary there.

It served it's purpose
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/9/08
My family stayed at the inn for our visit when my oldest daughter graduated from Flagler College. We stayed several days. The staff was cheerful and very helpful, even on the busiest of nights. The room was clean & beds comfortable. The bathroom is old and tiny. The location is tops and that's why we stayed there. However, staying more than three days, the traffic began to get on my nerves since it's just north of the bridge of lions. We usually stay south of the bridge, and it is quieter south of the bridge. The views were great at the Monterey too.

PERFECT LOCATION!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/28/08
The Monterey Inn is an old sytle hotel but, is still cool. The employees were all VERY helpful and nice. The hotel from travel maps doesn't look like it's really closed to anything but, it so is! Since, it's old just like any old house it has that "antique" musty smell but, it goes away very quickly and you do not notice it anymore. I would highly recommend it and will be going back!

No Frills but still nice
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/18/07
This hotel did not offer many amenities but we were quite surprised by the level of service and cleanliness of the rooms. Both of which exceeded our expectations. The location is great and the rates were not too high.

We won't be going back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/22/07
We have stayed at the Montery Inn five times over the last three years. All these visits were under the old owners care. Just recently we called to book a room and found rates that had tripled. Hate to say it, but we will not be back!
