How Could this be rated a 3 star hotel??
Booking through Hotwire was the biggest mistake. I have taken this kind of risk with Priceline many times and always come out on top, with only positive things to say. We live in Miami, FL - just a couple of hours from Orlando we travel to Orlando a couple times a year so we really just wanted somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep on our trip to Mardi Gras at Universal. Since we didn't plan to spend any time in the room, other than sleeping and dressing we didn't want to spend a lot of money - Hotwire advertised 3 star hotels in the Universal area for $40. I was hesitant, but I read thier star rating criteria and I figured, what the heck. Monumental Movieland is nowhere near a three star hotel - maybe a one star at best. If I had booked with the hotel I would have checked out the minute I saw the room - but no refund with Hotwire.
The hotel is in an excellent location for a Universal trip, the room was clean. That's the best I can say about it. The beds were the WORST I've ever slept in. The mattresses were so old that the springs were popping out. The pillows were another headache, it felt as if it was old foam that had fallen apart and placed in a pillow case. After trying to tuff it out after a couple of hours we left to a friend’s hotel room just a block down. This may sound like an exaggeration but it wasn’t. I couldn’t imagine not sleeping to have another long day to then drive home with out rest.
I don't mind basic accommodations (to say the least) when I don't intend to spend much time in the room, but this was so much worse than I could have imagined. How could they represent a three star hotel?? How could Hotwire call this a 3 star hotel?? I didn't complain to the hotel because I didn't book through them directly and I'm not sure how they represent themselves in the "ratings".
In summary - the hotel was clean and conveniently located and if that's what I was expecting it would have been fine - but that's not what I think of when a place is rated three stars I have complained to Hotwire and I will never be foolish enough to use their service again. When I called hotwire to complain I was told that it was a three star hotel that they go by ratings. That it was up to their clients to write the reviews.
