Good Value for the money. We'd stay there again
By ,
We stayed here on our last night in the area, and would have stayed here a few more days if we could have. We had an oceanview room on the 3rd floor, with a nice pool and beach view. There was a kitchen with full fridge, coffee maker, and there was a balcony with 2 chairs and a small table. We were very happy with the room. They have beach front bar, with live entertainment, that was rockin until 2 am, the Beachcomber is right next door and they have beach front bar too. Too bad we had to catch a plane in the morning...

Beware of RATS and poor management!!
By ,
We booked a night in this hotel on May 9th. We checked into our room in the afternoon, and then dropped off our stuff to attend a wedding at the Don Cesar down the street. When we got back from the wedding, my girlfriend was at the vanity getting ready for bed when she turned around and saw a black rat staring at her from beside the fridge. She screamed at the top of her lungs, and the rat scurried around the wall and then behind the bed. Even though it was past midnight, we packed up our stuff and left. As if that was not bad enough, our experience with management afterwards has been just as upsetting. I tried to contact the General Manager (Kay) for nearly a month after the incident to seek a refund. Despite my attempts to contact her, I only received word AFTER I reported the incident to Howard Johnsons corporate office. She sent me a letter accusing us of lying about the rat, and refusing to refund the nights stay. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, so book at your own risk.

Not Worth the $$$$
By ,
This resort might as well be closed. To start they do not honor any online reservations and/or price quotes/specials. What is advertised is completely different than what is actually at the resort. . .so if you havent seen it first hand your in for a surprise. Neither of the two so-called restaraunts are open even though they keep the "OPEN" signs in clear view. How about the "Arcade" signs everywhere. . . .your kids will be dissappointed when they find that it has been closed for years ! ! ! No grills are available to BBQ. . . The rooms are equipped with out dated A/C units that only work part of the time. The only entertainment for the family is old ruff shuffle board courts with bent and broken sticks. If you plan to spend time on the beach make sure you bring your own shade and charis as the ones for rent are mostly old , molded and infeted with broken boards and sharp nails/screws. Maybe $50 a night but definetely not worth the $100.00 and up that they are charging for out dated unequipped rooms.

Not worth the money!!!
By ,
We paid $143.00 for a one night stay at a room that faced the parking lot. Overall the room was not bad. The bed was comfortable, there is a whirlpool tub in an enclosed room separate from the main bathroom. There is a refridgerator in the room that is not plugged in. You almost get the sense that you are not suppose to use it.There is no continental breakfast provided which is usually offered at other hotels like this one where we have stayed before. The halls lack decor and overall appeal. As you walk in through the second canopied door there is a nicely decorated corner which includes a chair and wall art, but as soon as you pass the corner entrance the nicely painted walls end. My husband was told that the hotel was just painted it looks like they installed fancy hall light fixtures over white primer and cleaned the carpeting as best as they could to avoid replacing it altogether. They should of invested in continuing to paint the rest of the walls so at least it would look completed versus it looking like the halls in a medical institution .The pool bathrooms are also in need of attention. The hand soap dispenser was empty, equivalent to what you would expect at a public beach bathroom. This hotel is featured as a resort hotel but it doesn't offer the ammenities or the service or appeal of a resort. There is no direct access to the beach, there are no pool towels provided like at resort hotels and we were not able to even see the lounge and game room due to it closing early. When we checked out ,we felt that the one night stay at this hotel was not worth what we paid .They would not even give us a AAA discount because accordingly we were already getting a big discount with the price of the room.....

Will Not Return
By ,
We were looking for a location close to Fort Desoto Park, as we were not camping. Choose this location as it was only 10 miles from the park. The first thing we noticed about the room was that it was in need of maintenance. I had to track down housekeeping in the hallway as there was no soap available nor a soap dish. The light in the bathroom flickered as if it was going to go off. There are no discounts offered (such as AAA) yet the sign in the lobby states no discounts after you've already checked in. Beware as there also is no continental breakfast served like at many major hotel chains. Basically this owner is attempting to get away with the bare minimum and does not feel the need to offer more to have their guests return. I for one will not recommend this establishment to my friends, and my husband and I will not be returning in the future.

This place has everything!
What I liked most about this Howard Johnson's was the location! You can basically park your car and never leave. They have a pool with little tiki patio tables to hang at around the pool. On the other side of that is the very relaxing beach bar, where they provide cooley holders for your canned drinks. You can also stand just outside the beach bar while standing right on the beach and order a drink through the window so you never have to stop watching the incredible sunset! We met many wonderful people and throughly enjoyed our stay. OH! did I mention there's also a fabulous irish pub located right next to the hotel? and a comedy club! there's no reason to have to leave the area. Sit on the beach, relax at the beach bar or unwind at the pool, its a fabulous place to stay.

$59 rate was special via Yahoo maps......staff friendly, pool area clean and has a bar serving sandwiches. Steps from beach. Walls in guest room needed papering/painting but room was clean. Towels were not paper thin.
