The worst hotel ever
By ,
Firstly we have traveled to many hotels around the world and this is the worst I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. We are Hilton Diamond VIP members and use Hilton a lot but will never stay at this hotel again. We checked in and 3 staff were at reception talking. Eventually we were served and sent to the side entrance to take our luggage up to our room. The door did not work and should have been wedged open with a carpet. The maintenance person was actually at reception and knew of this issue BUT SAID NOTHING. We went back to reception and were told to wait at the door until somebody came to let us in. This eventually happened and we were led up to a room which was not clean. Cleanliness is a real issue at this hotel and it does not matter how many times you tell them they refuse to do anything. Issues we had were a leaking wet bar, bottles from the previous guest in the bar, glass not clean, leaking AC unit, microwave had food in it and a general musty smell. I spoke to the wonderful GARDENIA who is truly the rudest person I have ever spoken to. She agreed to move us to another room but the room had a wet carpet (like walking on a sponge) so we stayed where we were and asked to speak to the manager. The manager never spoke to us, either because they could not be bothered or didn't want to deal with us and Gardenia came up to our room to move us to another room with a faulty AC unit. Gardenia told us that we can move or the Sherriff would escort us out of the building if we made one more complaint. We were left with little choice but to move to a room with a broken AC unit. The curtains were wet and the room was again not clean but what choice did we have. Gardenia refused to listen to us and despite us showing her the issues she refused to listen. The room was never cleaned properly for the rest of the holiday, and the rest of the stay was no better. The security door was never fixed, the pillows were from Wal Mart (no joke they had wal mart labels on) the cleanliness was terrible, the damp smell was overpowering and none of the AC units in any of the rooms we stayed in worked properly with the run off of water pooling on the carpet or through the curtain. Any of our issues could have been solved with the manager taking responsibility for the issue and dealing with the issues. Most of the problems stemmed from bad housekeeping and maintenance and these things happen. The issue is the manager who refused to get involved and left it with Gardenia to resolve. She was so rude that her staff came up to us after her outburst and apologized for her attitude (she left our room saying "I want them out of my hotel") I have since got a full refund from Hilton as when I wrote to Hilton to complain the manager did not even respond to that complaint. I have asked for a call from the manager since I left and heard nothing and as a result all I can do is post this review to hope that nobody ever stays in this hotel again. If you have to deal with Gardenia I hope she does not call the sheriff on you. There are many better hotels in the Keys and none of them have Gardenia working for them.

diamond in the rough
By ,
although this hotel(not resort) was extremely misrepresented..tiki bar not finished and not open, starbucks not open and we were there on weekend and weekdays) we were pleasantly surprised with the things that were not advertised! day one we walked up to the water and there was a manatee! we did not expect this. we were also pleasantly shocked to see the giant marine iguanas absolutely everywhere we looked. this hotel is perfect for a place to stay in the keys if you plan to venture out alot whcih we did. the time spent at the hotel although not what we exoected turned out to be wonderful rooms were gorgeous and romantic. ask for courtyard view though because other side of hotel is of a parking lot.will definately stay there again in hopes that the tiki bar is completed and the starbucks is open!

Nice Room, needs amenities
By ,
The hotel is newly remodeled and the guest rooms are first rate. We visited mid-week so the Starbucks and Tiki bar were closed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds are a little small but we spent most of our time touring the surrounding area. If you're looking for someplace quiet without a lot of stuff going on this is definitely the place for you.

I doubt that I will go back!
By ,
They claim to be a non-smoking hotel but my room was so smoky that I had to keep the balcony door open & fan on 24-7. They cater to Europeans and they smoke a lot and couln't care less about the future guests.

Great place
By ,
This hotel is in the final stages of being remodeled and rooms will likely be more expensive in the future. Great room for the price. Nice updated furnishing and clean. We had planned to stay just 1 night but decided tro stay an extra day to go snorkeling and enjoy the hotel longer. Also great Starbucks coffee location

Great Place
By ,
When we were there, we were treated like kings. The service was great, and the hotel itself was in a great location. Next time we're down in that part of Florida we will definately stay there.

HoJo Chain should be ashamed
By ,
I'd agree with other reviewers and say that this hotel has few redeeming features. The staff were friendly enough, but they could not make up for a building that seemingly had not been updated since the 1950's. There were insects within the room, the cleaners efforts were at best patchy, the hallways were dirty, and there was constant noise, probably because the window didn't shut properly. The beach was horrible and the Tikki bar was small and falling down. However, it is close to Dolphins Plus where you can (and should!) swim with dolphins, and right opposite John Pennekamp State Park. We went to another hotel after two nights, despite having booked two weeks: that is how bad it was.

Insects,dirt, disappointment
By ,
The front desk staff were the ONLY nice thing about this hotel. The rooms were dated, insects crawled the walls and tables, the bathroom was dirty and fly corpses littered the floor. The hallways were dusty, the carpets stained, and the "beach" was a three feet wide slab of concrete with broken seats on it. The "water activities" could be booked at the hotel, but you had to travel some distance to participate. The pool was uninviting and the Tikki bar was nothing more than an old shack. If you want to feel like a vagrant and wake up with a flea on your face, then this is the place to go. Otherwise, AVOID.

not what we picture
By ,
I dislike 90% of this hotel.First the pool was filled with people getting scuba diving lessons that there was no room for anyone else. The hotel seem to be beaten up.The tiki bar was old looking and falling apart. The best part was that is very close to park.If the divers weren't there all the time it would be better. For what you pay its about right
