Heron House, Key West

its a great place but its a little bit stinky and they have a stray cat the comes around every week or so and leaves droppings on your porch. oh ya, its great.

We stayed at the Heron House at the end of January. The location is superb, easy walking distance to pretty much anywhere, and the garden is truly relaxing and peaceful. Our room was pleasant and well equipped, although rather dark, and our shower was pitifully underpowered. It took a l-o-n-g time to rinse shampoo out of our hair! The staff were efficient and courteous, although I wouldn't go so far as to say "friendly", and the rather strict notice in our room, warning us of zero tolerance to loud rowdy behaviour was rather off-putting. (We are not used to having to be warned to behave properly!) The breakfast was adequate, but nothing to get excited about. (The hot water for tea was far, far from boiling ...) Sarabeth's which is just down the road a few paces serves a far better repast. We were never informed of wine and cheese in the evenings ... but then the staff all seemed quite distant and stand-offish. Overall, we would recommend the Heron House. It is clean, quiet, and peaceful, in a good location, but we think the next time we are in Key West we will try another place.

Over all the Heron House is worth the money and location is very convenient to most everything. Would go back in a heart beat... If you enjoy lounging around the pool or just relaxing this is the place.....

My husband and I stayed the first week of June.We were greeted at the door by such friendly folks and a nice cold drink as they showed us the property. It was so tropical and tranquil with a beautiful pool and a very relaxing setting I could see how you would like to spend the entire time just on the grounds. Our deluxe garden room was more than we expected.Everything is clean and spotless very romantic place. The breakfast was outstanding every morning.The staff I could not say enough about. They are always there for you but never intrusive.It was hard to leave such a wonderful place

Quiet, charming, close to main streets and restraunts. Nice pool, free breakfast next to pool area. Great rooms and large trees. Wine and cheese served daily. Couples will love it here.

We stayed at the Heron House in October right before the hurricane hit. We were not evacuated like the main hotels were because it is considered a private residence and because we also had a flight booked the day after evacuations. Unfortunately late the night before we were to leave we were informed that our flight was cancelled. We were told it was no problem for us to stay there for an extrea night. The staff was very accomodating. The place is an absolute haven of relaxation. As stated by others the wine, cheese, fruit crackers etc in the late afternoon is a real treat. The continental breakfast is also very nice and very nicely put out each morning. You can choose to sit by the pool or on the comfy couches on the covered patio where the breakfast is or take it to your room. I have nothing bad to say about this lovely place and would recommomend it highly to everyone. The price is extremely reasonable to be able to have the feeling you do while staying there. The staff are friendly, inobtrusive and helpful. We stayed in an upstairs room with a waterfall outside our front door. I believe another poster stayed in the same room.. What a room it was! Perfect! I also agree with another poster that the feeling you get while sitting in the garden is that you must be in Fiji or Tahiti or somewhere. The garden is just beautiful and so tropical. If you stay there you won't be sorry... Excellent choise all around.

it is sooo relaxing and peaceful. i always feel like i'm in indonesia or fiji when i am here. but yet... i am within walking distance from duvall. so... do nothing... or everything...depending on your mood. classy, romantic.... and peaceful!

What a wonderful place the Heron House is. We were treated like royalty! Topnotch service without being intrusive. Wine and cheese in the afternoon was a delight. The word continential is an understatement for the breakfast provided each day. We can't say enough about how the professionalism of the staff.

We stayed at Heron House in December 2004 and absolutely loved it. Our lovely and comfortable upstairs room had a terrace overlooking the tropical pool/garden area. There was a waterfall flowing into an outdoor aquarium outside our front door. I have never stayed at any hotel that was so quiet and peaceful. Guests who chose to do so mingled each day as breakfast was served in the pool/garden area every morning, and wine, fruit and cheese were served in late afternoon. The staff was generally friendly and very helpful. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The location of Heron House is within walking distance of many major attractions and restaurants, including Duvall Street. There is only reserved parking for check-in and loading/unloading, so guests must find parking on the street, but that wasn't too much of a problem when we were there. The crowd when we were there tended to be older (40s and above), but I understand from friends who have stayed there at other times that there are more younger people during peak seasonal times. While it is not a resort geared towards kids, guests seeking a romantic getaway will definitely enjoy Heron House. I look forward to going back.
