Under New and Terrible Management

I last stayed at the Tahitian in 2005 when it was owned from a "Smiley Jack" that had recently purchased the property from Best Western. The rooms were clean, the pool was well-kept, and the pool bar was lively, with local music every night. I reccomended the hotel to many people, since it was a pretty good deal for about $50 a night.
I just returned from Holliday and another stay at the Tahitian. IT WAS AWFUL. We were charged outrageous fees for having 4 adults in the room, plus a fee for the "use of the (inoperable) safe" located in the room. We had to fight with the front desk in order to receive 1 towel per adult. We were also assigned reomte controls for the televisions in the rooms, of course, it would have been nice if te remotes were not helt together with electrical tape and actually worked. The new owners are rude, and (apparently) unconcerned with the experiences of their guests.
The rooms were dirty (I agree with a recent reviewer that didn't want to remove their shoes). The lamps would not stay turned on because they were all pluged into an outlet located between the matress and headboard, so anytime you moved, the lights flickered or turned off completely. When we moved the mattress to attempt to fix the problem, we disturbed a very happy and large family of black bugs (my father later wound up with a large bite on his elbow). We actually went and bought pillows and blankets and did not sleep in the sheets. The bathroom fixtures were rusted and mildewly, and the temperature of the water was not consistent. We had to listen to construction noise from other rooms in the hotel late into the night (nothing like trying to sleep through a nail gun and the loud 1980s country music they were listening too). The rooms do have a refridgerator and microwave, which I suppose was nice.
The best thing remaining about the property is the location. Fortunately for prospective guests, there are other comparably priced hotels in the area - I would pick any of them over the Tahitian at this point. We will not be returning there.
