Harrington Hotel, Washington

The location of the hotel is great! It seems close to everything i the downtown area and close to 2 metro stops for added convience. However that might be the 2 best things about the hotel itself. I couldn't believe that the room didn't have working air conditioning, and after contacting the desk twice, their maintence team placed ONE 20 inch BOX FAN in the room for it to cool!!!!! I immediately called the desk and asked to be moved to another room and was told that they only has smoking rooms available but could be moved. Granted I stayed there for just one night and I was glad it was just that. I DON'T recommend the hotel unless its just for 1 night and you want to be close to the metro and national mall area and like OLD, HOT, and DARK rooms!

The only thing good about this hotel is it's central location. Otherwise, stay away. The entire hotel is dirty, the food at the 2 restaurants was terrible. You will do better with staying at a Hilton, Marriott or other national chain.

The hotel was in a good location, but that is it's only positive characteristic. The restaurants at the hotel served low quality food that was way overpriced. The windows in our room were DUCT TAPED!!! For such a high nightly rate you would think they could afford a decent alternative to duct tape. The staff woke us up at 5 am using a huge industrial vaccuum right outside our door. Also, you have to pay $15/day for parking in the hotels garage which is blocks away. They failed to mention that there is a garage right next door which charges lower rates. Talk about a rip-off. Not to mention they charged us twice for the room and it was like pulling teeth trying to get our money back, I would not stay in this hotel again if they paid me. It was truly the worst experience i have had with a hotel.

AVOID THIS DUMP - - Mark my words, you WILL regret it if you stay here!! - - - We stayed here October 2nd and had planned to spend 3 nights but were so disgusted we checked out early the next morning. The room had a strong moldy smell. The carpet was stained and sticky in many places. The front desk night clerk let his German Shepard defecate on the carpet behind the check-in counter. That HAS to be a health code violation. No cable. The TV reception on the mere dozen channels on the very old TV was horrible. We saw a huge cockroach in the lobby. There was no iron, no hair dryer, no internet but there were hairs in the bathroom from a previous guest. Gross! The hotel parking is 4 blocks away and is quite an interesting walk back from the parking garage at night with all the bums mumbling to themselves. Not exactly a family-friendly walk at night! The location is convenient, but it was disgusting overall inside. They allow pets, so avoid this place if you are slightly sensitive to dust, dirt or overall filth.

We (family of four, two adults two tweens) stayed here for three nights. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was mostly clean. All the day-to-day cleaning vacuuming, beds, dusting etc. were done spotlessly. Other cleaning like the dust on the curtains and behind TV, well not so much. Like all the other reviews state, this hotel is excellent for location. Several restaurants within 5 minute walk. Hundreds of things to see and do within ten minute walk. However if you are going to be in your room for any length of time, then this is not the hotel for you. The hotel is very, very old. Wiring is old. Cable wiring is outdated. Plumbing leaks. Things to know. No coffee maker (hot water heater for instant coffee instead). Almost no counter space or outlets in the bathroom. Knowing all this, our family would stay here again. The hotel has charm, is safe and clean. The price was excellent, especially the parking rate. Oh, and did I mention location.

Hotel Harrington is well worth the money spent. Excellent location & friendly service. If you just need a clean space to crash during the hours you're not trekking from one DC attraction to the next, this is the place to be. In one of the country's most expensive cities to find a hotel, Harrington is a charming alternative that allows you to stay on the 'cheap' while not sacrificing location. We stayed here for 3 nights, and the location is fabulous! It's a short walk to nearly everything, and only 2 blocks from a main metro station to get you anywhere else. There was even a fridge in the room. The building is old, and you're not going to find the most up-to-date or top-of-the-line decor. But things are kept nice enough, and I felt comfortable there. If you are used to staying in the Marriott or Hilton, with everything kept absolutely immaculate, this place will not be your style. I was hesitant after reading some of the reviews (specifically thrashing the building up-keep), but I went in with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the paint is chipping off the door frames, but the building is old, and just hasn't been renovated for a while. Does it make the stay any less worth while? I think it was just fine for what we paid, and where it was located. I have stayed in European hotels that are of lesser quality, yet claim to be a "4-star hotel." If you want a cheap room where you can feel safe and comfortable, reserve a room at Hotel Harrington. If you want a pillow-top mattress and expect housekeeping to supply turn-down service, stay somewhere else.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Harrington after reading many raving reviews about the staff and location and "quirkiness." I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed. I will admit that the location is impeccable, it could not have been better, but the positives end there. The room was dark and dirty. It didn't appear to be vacuumed and there was a big wad of golden film under the bed (evidence of lack of cleaning) and spots/crumbs on the floor. The "air conditioning" looked like something out of a black and white TV show, especially the black mold/mildew on the ceiling around it. The low point of the experience came when I complained to the front desk and was told, basically, to get over it. I can not stress enough - STAY AWAY

I am no student - in fact spent 2 days at the Harrington for my 50th Birthday. The room we had was great - spotlessly clean, light and airy at the front of the hotel. Great breakfast - all freshly cooked and high quality. Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. My partner and I travel for business and stay in hotels regularly so the gloss has long worn off! However we would stay there again. One problem was the bins being emptied under the window at 5.50 a.m. but we lived with that for the superb location - minutes away from the centre of Bath. Nice little unpretentious pub (Raven) opposite with decent beer, and a great restaurant (L'Arche) just yards down the street. Get a map if you are driving as the Bath one way system takes a while to crack and sat nav couldn't cope. Room cost us £128 - Bath is expensive - but check out prices of other hotels - they will leave you gasping!

The only convenient thing was the location, BUT this did not outweight the filth of the place. The smell, dirt /dust in the carpets, the most ancient a/c. Never ever in my life had seen anything like this. It is basically a hotel filled with teens traveling that I believe probably do not know any better. I am not sure who this place is good for. It should be closed!!

Very good location for the price. The place is pretty dingy and outdated. The air conditioner was turned off at night so we were boiling and when we called to complain, we got a pretty rude response. We didn't want to pay a lot and it was only for one night, so it was okay for our purposes. We didn't venture into the shower because it didn't look all that clean. Not a bad choice for a night or two but definitely not a high quality hotel.
