better than expected
By ,
While searching for a block of rooms for a family reunion in West Haven, I spoke with the manager regarding bad reviews posted 2-3 years ago. I was assured the management had changed and the facility was remodeled. This proved true. The hotel was clean and well managed. It was to the standard one would expect from the Best Western chain. We received a good rate and there was not one complaint from any of the family who stayed there. We wound up not using a conference room that was reserved and received consideration from the manager. Thank you Ms. F., manager, for all your personalized assistance. Good job!

Disappointing at best
By ,
I stayed here for 2 nights in August of 2007. It was disappointing at best. The amount of traffic between West Haven and New Haven was considerable. The room was infested with bugs. Before arriving we requested a cot for an additional family member that wanted to join us for one of the tow nights. We were told that the could not do that because there wasn't enough space in our 2 double bed room. When we arrived we saw there was PLENTY of space for a cot. The internet service was VERY slow. The pool is located off the restaurant, so people who are eating can watch you swim through a window. This was VERY uncomfortable. We were given the wrong room key and had to return to the front desk for a replacement. They tried to charge us substantially more than the price we were quoted on the internet. Ice machines didn't work on most floors - and were located in dirty stairwells. Snack machines were located in on only 2 floors that I could find. Breakfast was minimal - stale bagels, a few hard boinled eggs, plain cereal. You had to pay extra for cereals like fruit loops, etc. The hotel is WAY over promoted. It would have been worth the money to pay more to stay closer to New Haven in a lower rated hotel. This is a 1 1/2 star hotel at best. Too stars for this place is too much.

caveat emptor
By ,
Not the worst, but far far from the best, esp for the price. I rented rooms for friends coming from out of town and when I arrived to check on them I was saddened that I'd chosen this hotel w/o visiting first. It smelled of cigarette smoke and...something wet in the lobby, a fragrance combo that intensified on the floor where my friends were staying. From the parking lot to the wall paper to the dimly lit hallways, it looked (and smelled) seedy. I've seen worse, but for the price you can do better. Much better.

I'll be staying here the next time
By ,
Location,location,location...Easy on, easy off the I-95...Food places nearby...Great cuisine, affordable prices ....Corteous service at the front desk, paperwork was awaiting for me at the time of the check-in. The room was great!Set up for work, rest and some entertaintment!Clean, quiet ( despite the closeness of the highway),comfortable bed. At the time of ckeck-out the housekeeping staff was anxious to start working on the room, but I wasn't rushed out. Thank you for your hospitality, Best Western! I will definitely stay here again(for this price you can't go wrong!), and recommend the hotel to others for business and pleasure needs.

A little expensive. Overall very clean hotel and friendly professional staff. The pool is nice as well as small exercise room. Free High speed internet is unbelieveable.

Warning Warning Will Robinson
By ,
This was just about the worst hotel that I ever stayed in. I paid 100.00 for the night and it was way too expensive. The room was filthy, noisey, and smelled like stale carpet cleaner. It is right on the higway so all night the cars were really loud. Nothing to say that is good except make another choice, and go to the beaches for a nice relaxing afternoon.

Dirty and neglected in West Haven
By ,
The nonsmoking floor reeked of tobacco smoke. The bed linens had holes and was old and tattered. Charged $1.00 for a safe that I didn't use and wasn't warned about the charge when I made the reservation. The continental breakfast consisted of apples, bagels and coffee.
