A Mixed Bag
So you walk in and immediately you're impressed by the huge, open lobby, with the foliage and the sound of trickling water from the small waterfalls. The restaurant and bar are attractive and in an open area. The food is excellent and well presented. The staff are attentive and helpful, esp. the doorman. The gym is small but a great benefit. The indoor/outdoor pools could use a little sprucing up, but they'll do.
Then you get up to the rooms. On the way there, I noticed torn up wallpaper on the walls--not a good sign. The furniture in the rooms is old, the bedspreads look like they came out of a Motel 6 (ours had a cigarette burn on it), the blankets on the bed are cheap looking and thin. We had a very visible stain of something that had spilled on the bedskirt. I removed a dead bug from our bathroom. There are scratches and marks on the doors, etc. that could use a fresh coat of paint. Although we had a nice view of the city and the Rockies from our hotel room (if you're on the other side of the hotel you get a view of a shopping complex, dominated by Wal-Mart), the balcony was dirty and had no chairs so you wouldn't have been able to enjoy the view out there. Previously we had stayed at a Holiday Inn Express and their bed linens, furniture and overall decor are very impressive, clean and give you an upscale feeling.
Obviously this hotel has seen better days, and is trying to maintain itself, despite the fact that the airport it used to service is no longer there. We were there for a conference, and another one was setting up as we left, so I think they are managing.
Once we got over the initial shock of the bedroom, I have to say that our stay turned out to be pleasant( I put the bedspreads in the closet so I didn't have to look at them). The hotel is easily accesible from the interstate, there is free garage parking, there is a nice, new shopping complex across the street(where the old airport used to be), which has a Wal-Mart, Famous Dave's restaurant, Arby's, and a Panera Bread, among others. A little further down the street is a Wal-Greens, a grocery store, a Chipotle, Oodles of Noodles and Einstein Bagels restaurant.
If you're not overly picky about your rooms, stay here. We were just surprised by the state of the rooms, which were in such contrast to the rest of the hotel, and the image it is trying to project.
