Our second visit was better than the first
The Westin Mission Hills promotes itself as a 4 star resort and in some ways lives up to the promotion. The grounds, golf course, and common areas are well laid out and attractive. However, while they promote their service, the facility and rooms clearly show signs of neglect.
On our first visit (a promotional tour for their time shares) we were sorely disappointed. The room we were assigned was in probably the oldest section of the resort and showed it. The sofa had a worn hole in the arm, the positioning of the second floor room was in direct line to a parking area and thusly, anytime someone parked or left- the room was bathed in headlights-disconcerting when trying to fall asleep. The carpeting was worn and stained, and the room had an overall feeling of neglect and age. While we made limited use of the concierge services, the reservation we made at the resorts restaurant was lost, or never made.
When we checked out-mistakes were made on our final bill and it took nearly an hour to get it cleared up and checked out. Obviously, we didn't buy a time share. The units will not be ready to see, let alone stay at for a couple more years.
After returning home, my wife did write a complaint to the Westin and they were quick to respond and gave us another weekend at no charge to their facility.
So we recently returned for a second visit.
This time the room assigned was much better as far as location-first floor next to one of the pools. However, again the rooms carpet was stained and worn, the rooms decor was aged. We also noticed that some of the light fixtures around pool were broken and cracked. In fact, there was a young child who cut his finger on one of the fixtures.
Now to the positives-LOTS of staff ready to assist you with your bags, provide a shuttle around the resort, etc. The bed and shower were "heavenly", very comfortable. The daily newspaper left outside the door every morning was a nice touch.
Overall, I would reccommend the Westin-but don't go with the idea the resort is anything more than a three star. Also, particularly if you are disabled as I am, make sure to request a first floor room as the facility has no elevators. Also be prepared to walk more of a distance when parked in disabled parking as those slots are placed for the convenience of the resort-not the visitor.
