Not worth for the money spent!!
By Krishna, 07/09/09
Pros: Nice location, Very elegant look, nearby to all the locations like night clubs, restaurants, sea world and Zoo. Cons: • No self parking had to pay $30/day apart form the room rent and taxes. Parking charge is no where mentioned in the hotel's website (just mentioned as valet parking) • 2 tiny water bottles provided to guests for the entire stay at the hotel. • No pool or hot tub or Jacuzzi. • No mini bar in the room. • Room service is very expensive and takes lots of time for you to get your things when you order something to room rather you can go get yourself. • They deduct some $$ everyday from the card (which is used for hotel booking) as "Incidental charges", If the hotel has to refund those charges, it would take more than a week to get back into account/card. On the whole stay at this hotel comfortable but very very expensive. Not at all worth for the money spent!!!

good hotel bad location
By david, 11/24/07
the hotel was great, getting around san diego was easy. the only problem was the homeless people after about 4pm. they made walking to the 7 eleven across the street very uncomfortable.

Best experience ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/07
Copy of a letter I just sent to the hotel: My husband and I recently stayed at your hotel. We were there on Monday and Tuesday nights, September 3rd and 4th. I am writing to tell you that our stay with you was the most pleasant we have ever had at a hotel. When we were first greeted we were told by the very lovely young woman at the front desk that we were upgraded to an upper floor (our room was 1689 I believe). When we saw the room we were floored! It was so elegantly decorated - with a beautiful bath and dressing area - and very roomy. The rooms were very quiet and the beds extremely comfortable. The maid responded very quickly to a request for a few additional pillows. As soon as we were settled in we had drinks at one of your bars - and - again - were greeted and served by a very sweet but professional young woman. We felt totally comfortable and decided right then and there that if we could have we WOULD have booked an extra day or two. We were thinking about going out for dinner - but opted on having dinner at your restaurant (the cafe) because the menu did look very good. The wait staff was great and so was the food. Breakfast the next day was also a delight. People say that your hotel room is not a big deal because you don't spend all day in your room. You are out sight-seeing most of the time. This is not true for us. Even though we spent the entire day at the zoo - and also visited Coronado in the short time we were in San Diego, the hotel and the hotel room are VERY important to us. The hotel can make or break your vacation time. Again - from the bell man who took our bags to our room to the young man who retrieved our car for us on the morning we left, we were treated with extraordinary courtesy. We will probably not be back to San Diego - but I almost feel like visiting the city again JUST to stay at the Westgate. Thank you once again for the wonderful two days we spent with you.

Well worth the money...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/07
Spent a wonderful long weekend at the Westgate. Made it in time for the Friday evening Seafood Soiree...what a treat! Not only was the seafood and sushi incredible, the staff was friendly and attentive. Also tried a martini in the bar. Great! Service was top notch. Piano player/singer was extremely good. Pleasant interaction with the crowd. Enjoyed the room. Great water pressure in the shower! May not mean alot to some, but I loved it. Great views. Great shops, coffee houses, mall within walking distance. I will definitely be back.

Better off elsewhere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/21/07
I agree with the other reviews in that the Westgate does have elegant Old World charm. However, we are paying New World prices and I didn't feel this hotel lived up to its rating. For example, "Complimentary coffee" is listed under the amenities. They fail to mention that it is served only until 7 AM. We went down at 8 AM and asked for a cup, which they gladly brought us for $4 per cup! The rooms looked nice, but every person in our group woke up with backaches. Watch your step going into the elevators because they don't line up right with the floor. The staff was friendly and polite, but a bit slow; it took an hour to get a few extra blankets. For the price you are paying, you are better off at the Marriott.

RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/09/06
I went to California 2005 to see my brother which is in the navy. This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The people here did not give me a good impression of California people. First of all, Yeah the tell you that they have parking for guest but don't add that it cost 20.00 a day to park in there parking garage, which in it's location is basically your only choice. Secondally, my grandmother who requires oxygen and can't walk very far without getting out of breath, required a wheelchair. The people at the front guest was not willing to help us locate a business that rented wheelchairs on a daily basis. We had to try and locate ourselves, and not being from CA, was very hard to do. And last but not least, the hidden charges that they charge was crazy. Make sure if you stay, (which I hope you don't unless you won't your trip to be a disaster) WATCH THE HIDDEN CHARGES! example: newspaper delivered to door-extra fee.

The place is beautiful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/05
The room service was great and the view is awesome. The only thing is that even with an expensive hotel they couldn't give you free radio through the tv.

What a wonderful hotel!
By Nay, 09/20/05
My husband and I visited in September 2005. When we first arrived, we were welcomed by a very gracious and courteous staff. The rooms are very warm and cozy. They have very spacious bathroom and bedroom areas. The bathroom tub and shower have made of marble. The bedroom was very comfortable and view was awesome. The minibar was a bit over priced but this is to be expected. We stayed 2 weeks for training that I received through my law firm. The services from the daily paper services to the breakfast in bed was awesome. I would recommend this for a weekend getaway. Nightlife around the hotel: from a mall (2 blocks away) to various eateries with daily and evening specials.
