8 reviews for Seaway Inn, Santa Cruz
Quiet
By E, 07/23/08
We arrived friday around 1230 in the afternoon and our room wasnt ready which I can understand I GUESS since ck in was at 3pm so we just hung out on the beach till check in time. We ck in and the put us over to their "part 2" hotel down the street which was to our surprise very up to date. It was a small building of about 5 rooms. Good size kitchen, shower was pretty small but no big deal. Beds were comfy so thats good. The floors were vinyl so the sand we tracked in got everywhere which made us step in it the whole time. Gross feeling. Had to keep our flip flops on the whole time. I found out the morning after that we had to drive back up to the main hotel if we wanted to eat their complimentry breakfast. I wasnt happy with that. If they wouldve told us that when I booked the room, I wouldve brought up my own food from home and kept it our hotel kitchen. The boardwalk is about 10 mins from our room, pretty far and tiring for any kids to walk it. My 6 yr old son is a trooper in walking but I knew he was tired. All in all a good trip and would go back again.. Oh go on santacruz.com and ck for their internet rates. I booked prior to looking and called the hotel if they would honor the santacruz.com rate and they did. Saved me like $80!

They don't change the sheet
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/06
We arrived on Friday afternoon and thought the place was adequate for the price, we left the room and didn't return until around 10 pm. When we turned down the sheets, one entire side was covered with snot. We tried to call the office several times but they close early and don't answer the phone. In the morning we went to the office to tell them what had happened, their first reponse was why didn't we call. When I explained that we had, I was just dismissed with a "we don't always change the sheets", no apology. It was as if it was our fault for not checking the sheets when we arrived. All the other inconveniences seemed minor compared to this. This is a health issue.

Pleasantly surprised
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/06
We stayed at the Seaway for one night in July, 2006. We do cheap, and we made reservations base soley on the deal we were promised. We came prepared for the worst, based on reviews we had seen. Imagine our surprise we when finally got there and were able to see for ourselves what the place was like. We had two rooms, and both were very clean and fully stocked with the usual assortment of hotel items (the Gideon's in my room was brand new). Yes, the rooms were smallish and the bathrooms a bit tight, but everything worked and there were plenty of clean towels. The staff members (including the maid, a nice old lady with whom I chatted for a few minutes) were polite, genuinely friendly, and laid-back. The view isn't exactly great, but it's not bad either. Overall, the stay was very positive. I think if you're a normal person with a budget looking for something close to the boardwalk, this is the place you want to stay at.

GREAT TIME
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/13/05
I HAVE STAYED AT SEAWAY MANY TIMES. I LIKE IT BECAUSE IT ACCOMADATES FOR ALL TEENAGERS. THE INNKEEPER WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE AREA. EACH TIME HE WAS THERE (BILL)THE BOYS ENJOYED HIM. SNACKS WERE NICE (PROVIDED BY SEAWAY INN.) THE SHORT WALK TO THE SURF & SAND & THE RIDES WAS GREAT. IT IS A SAFE PLACE TO STAY, GARDEN SETTING, KEPT UP WELL, VCR, MICROWAVE, PIER FOOD & SHOPPING WAS NICE AS WELL. GOOD FOOD AT GILDA'S.

Great Value Last Visit 2002
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/06/05
The value is great especially if you have a family..We always come and stay on a Thursday and Friday Nite for the best value and rent the suite. It is close to the Boardwalk. I thought this was a little gem. The last time I went was about three years ago and they had just remodeled. Maybe the staff and service has changed.???

Excellent
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/25/05
We have stayed at Seaway a dozen times the last 3 years. Had exceptional service, freindly staff and very nice and claen rooms. For the location you cannot beat it at the price. I am guessing the others who have reviewed the Seaway are mixed up and stayed somewhere else by mistake. Or maybe had too many Coronas before writing their reviews.

This was my worst hotel experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/05
First, I was placed in a dirty room (trash cans were overflowing with malodorous trash, dirty sheets crumbled on the bed, wet/dirty towels scattered on the bathroom floor, dirty coffee pot, etc.). For one (1) hour, I was forced to endure these unsanitary conditions before the hotel clerk offered to move me to another room. I unpacked and settled in. I turned on the heater. The room emanated an immensely strong smell of gas, which I had to endure until my first room was cleaned. Third, one the room was cleaned, I packed and move back into room the first room. However, the rain created a cascade of water streaming down in front of the entryway. I became soaking wet, chilled, and the immediate and surrounding area in the room was soaking wet all night long, creating a cold carpet effect and a chill. Fourth, the list of hotel amenities included HBO. Nonetheless, the HBO channel was never located. Further, the hotel clerk was unable to find which channel offered HBO and offered no assistance to investigate how to view HBO.

very poor service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/13/04
We stayed at the Seaway Inn for the big kahuna tri weekend recently. This has been our worst hotel experience this year, and we stayed at nearly 30 places in 2004 !!
Even though we stayed for two nights, they would not let us check out late. Despite the fact that there were no bookings for our room or many other rooms for that matter, on Sunday night. The service was very poor, the people at the front desk were always circling around, peering over our shoulders, making comments about how many muffins we ate for breakfast, etc.
Rooms were expensive but only so-so. There was no airco and the heater turned on in the evening but could not be turned off for some weird reason, resulting in a very uncomfortable and hot night. There is no pool and inadequate parking, we had to park in a pay lot. The rooms are tiny and one always had to move something to get somewhere. Not recommended. Last year we stayed at the super8 nearby, not exactly the ritz, but compared to the seaway, it was.
