A bit disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/29/09
When we reserved our room, the confirmation said breakfast was included but when we arrived the hotel had undergone a name change and there was a charge for breakfast. When we talked to a representative at the front desk, all they had to say was 'we charge now for breakfast'...no adjustment to our room rate was possible. Our room was one of the 'newly renovated' but was still being worked on when we arrived. There were trim strips left out on the table. The morning we left the elevator was not working...we were on the 3rd floor and nobody was available to help us with luggage - so we carried our own. The staff really needs work on customer service.

Poor service, Expensive experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/09
The recently renovated hotel was nicely furnished and decorated. The room itself was nice but when you are paying $199 a night and not single request is fulfilled by the staff you then it all turns into a very disappointing experience. On the first morning, the hotel decided to clean or repair my room windows starting at 7am. Opened the door to the terrace and there was ladder with workers on it. They apologized saying that they didn't know there was someone in room! Later on a stranger was drinking his beer and smoking his cigar right next to our window... when asked for a different room, they said that the hotel was overbooked. Later that day they found and reserved a room for us -- a downgrade. But a few hours later when we were ready to move into the new room, once again, it was not available. Finally after giving up with the hotel service during the first two nights, our last night came with a visit by a rodent. Its midnight and the hotel could not accommodate another room, while we were waiting at the reception for the security guy to "scare it away", the hotel receptionists kindly offered us a bottle of water for a buck fifty! Could be bad luck, one thing for sure I'm not betting on them again.

Great place to stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/08
We had a wonderful night at this motel. The room was clean and very nice, and the free breakfast was delicious! I wish we could have spent a few more nights here.

Clean quiet room
By Ben, 04/06/08
The room was nice, a little small but very clean. The gas fireplace was a nice touch. The staff was friendly and helpful. The person who checked us in even took the time to give us directions and gave us some great ideas on where to get a delicious dinner. Don't expect anything fancy but it's well worth the money. We would definitely go back.

Good buy for the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/25/08
We got a reservation for a room for a night from a local service called resort2me (which is a free service to find hotels in monterey) and also got a 15% discount on it. Great value hotel, very clean, they even allowed us to checkin early (we reached at 1230 and didnt realise that we were too early). The room is decent sized one with a balcony and a nice warm fireplace. The internet connection was pretty good. The only problem we found was the room was a little difficult to reach - too many winding steps and there was water in one place which made the stairs quite slippery. But over all great experience, value for money, close to downtown Monterey (lot of eating places around). close to fishermans wharf. Not the best of places if you want to stay right on the water but around 5-6 blocks from the Bay. Ample parking place in the hotel parking, heated pool.

Great Value!
By JulieB, 01/13/08
This hotel is being unjustly underrated. It is very quaint and a great value! The employees offered great service and a generous continental breakfast was included. The room was very comfortable and clean ... and the fireplace was a nice touch. The only thing I would have like to have seen included that wasn't was internet connection. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay at a great price!

Great price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/24/07
Not fancy, but the room was clean and roomy. We had a balcony, fireplace, refrigerator and wet bar. It was very quiet. The continental breakfast was not fancy but enough to get by. The staff was very helpful. The place is near Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. Restaurants are across the street. We will certainly return.

I would definitely go back
By Garrett, 08/06/07
My girlfriend and I went for a weekend stay and it was just an awesome place for the price. Every room has a fireplace, which was perfect for the winter time that we went. The front desk was very welcoming and helpful. Room were as clean as it can probably get. If you are thinking of going to Monterey for a weekend getaway with a budget without losing on comfort, this is the perfect hotel.

You decide......
By Larry, 07/15/07
After we arrived home, and after checking my credit card, the Sand Dollar Inn CHARGED our credit card $250.00 fee for what they said was a "smoke smell" in our room. Please be careful, it seems to me the Sand Dollard Inn, Monterey, might have a way of making some extra $.
