Big disapointment, especially for the price
Where to start?
The check-in staff was actually very friendly and efficient. If you have limited needs this place is probably O.K.
My issue had to do with the internet. My room had no cable to connect, so I called the front desk to request a cable; they said an "engineer" would be right up... well, after 20 minutes and no response I called another number... the "Careline"
The Careline is a special number you can call, it's 62 btw... they say "Doubletree is committed to providing our guests with outstanding service. Simply touch 62 on you phone with any special need (an ethernet cable is hardly a special need) or concern. You'll get immediate action!"
So, like I said, I called the "Careline" and requested the cable... maybe they would be more helpful than the front desk??? An "engineer" did show up shortly... he connected the cable and I asked him to stick around to make sure the connection was good. I had work to do that required an internet connection.
So, it did connect... kind of... it asked for my login and password. The "engineer" tells me it's my last name and room number. O.K., lets try... no such luck...
He says, "you'll have to call the front desk. Maybe they spelled your name wrong?"... then he left... and by "he left" I mean if the room was on fire he could not have left any faster!
Blah, Blah, Blah... so I did call the front desk. They confirmed the spelling of my name, and that all I needed was my name and room number to connect. Well, it didn't work. The front desk directed me to the off site tech support... tech support was very helpful, "you have to pay the $9.95 to gain access and set up your account". This is 100% OK (I can expense it), but that is a different answer than "all you need is your name and room number"... why didn't the front desk tell me? What ever, it was an hour of my time and poor customer service due to lack of training/understanding. There was no malice.
Then there were also the dirty drinking glasses (I mean nasty dirty), and the weird greasy spots on the desk (I cleaned that up myself)... but that is a story for another day, and I've got work to do.
I'd recommmed the Marriot. It is across the street, and it can't be worse (or can it???)... I'll try it next time (if I come back to Bakersfield), and let you know if it's any better.
Cheers.
