Worth a try!
By ,
We really liked this hotel and feel that the negative reviews are not true. The people who work at this hotel treat it as if it's their own. Our room was much better than expected. Probably because we had such low expectations after reading some of the poor reviews. Our room was an ocean view room with flowers on the balcony in flower boxes. It had everything we needed and a fridge for a baby. We had asked before booking because most of the hotels we've stayed at we're surprised to find no fridge. This hotel is worth a try. We're glad we did and recommend.

La Jolla Inn is Awesome!
By ,
Wow! Is the first word that comes to mind when describing this hotel. It's the cutest and coziest hotel I've ever stayed in. We planned this trip for quite some time and we were pleasantly surprised. First of all; this hotel has the best location in La Jolla. It also has a handy convenience store that rents bikes and snorkels. We went bike riding and snorkeling almost everyday. The hotel also has a nice continental breakfast with the best croissants. To die for! There's plenty of shopping and attractions near the hotel. Our favorite was to picnic at Scripps Park and catch the waves and sun. This is not a contemporary hotel. If you’re looking for charm and service then you should try the La Jolla Inn. We were happy we did!

Pros: nice staff, free filling breakfast, garage parking at the time (tho 2 blocks away, is very expensive in LaJolla normally), attempts to be European/Mediterranean style inn with cozy "romantic" touches. Cons: Expensive, many small/odd shaped rooms, noisy as sound insulation and much of structure is from around the 1930s. May or may not have ocean view depending on room. Long climb on fire escape type stairwell to roof terrace. Subsequently have always stayed at the Empress instead when in area to actualize concepts of "quiet" and "value."

Awesome Stay!
By ,
My husband and I decided to visit the La Jolla Inn on vacation. We had a wonderful time and found the staff to be very friendly and I am so glad that we decided to stay at this Inn. Everyone went way out of their way to make sure that we had a great stay. The room was nice and clean with a great view of the ocean! It was very relaxing and peaceful.

Wow, smallest room in any hotel. ever!
By ,
Our room was the smallest hotel room we have ever seen! It was about 9 x 9 ft. sq with one corner of the room where the door was an it was a slant wall making the room smaller! The front door could be closed from sitting on the bed! This room had a funny smell and a super tiny bathroom. To be honest, it should be a storage closet and not a $150 a night hotel room. Ask what the room size is before you come! This one is room #23. Parking is two blocks away in a parking garage! No extra plugs to plug in cell phones to charge or a laptop.

Perfect In Everyway!
By ,
My visit to La Jolla was a business trip and I had meetings most of the day. My nights were spent enjoying great recommendations of restaurants around La Jolla Village such as a great nightspot that the front desk said just opened called Barfly where they had great drinks and appetizers. I also really loved the fondue restaurant which I never would have tried if it hadn’t been recommended. In the mornings, breakfast was free and they were able to wrap it up to go for me since I had to be out early. My stay at La Jolla Inn included parking as well, which was great since I was able to walk to my meetings, I could just leave my car safe and secure underground. My only complaint would be that the wireless internet was not very strong in my room and kept cutting out. But the front desk staff showed me the library where they have a strong signal. Also, I was able to get a strong signal on the sundeck which was beautiful. They have tables and chairs out there with fantastic views of the ocean!

Outstanding Value!
By ,
I stayed at this hotel while my son was getting ready to enroll at UCSD and move into the dorms. We didn’t realize that the rooms have just one queen bed, but the front desk girl was quick to suggest a cot and got it set up right away for us. The first morning, the front desk girl was cheery and had some great suggestions for early morning coffee shops, walks and where to buy my son a birthday cake and balloons. She even helped set up the cake, plates, knives and forks and the balloons in the room as a surprise for my son while we were out at UCSD for orientations. La Jolla Inn is such a great location as well. Just down the hill from the college, yet a totally different feel. The La Jolla Village is safe, you can walk everywhere from the hotel and it is right by the ocean. My son was able to enjoy as many pastries as he wanted as part of the complimentary breakfast that was delivered the room. And you know how teenage boys can eat! The maid who brought the breakfast was nice and polite and gladly brought more food for him even after the breakfast order time was officially over. We were not here to really be on vacation, but we ended up feeling refreshed due to the amenities of the hotel, the location and the kindness of all of the staff. And to top it all off, the room rate was a great deal. We talked to other parents and students at the UCSD campus and they were stuck on a busy street, full of traffic for much more than we paid to stay right by the ocean. I know for sure that when I come back to visit my son at college, I will be staying at La Jolla Inn!

A Masterpiece!
By ,
The La Jolla Inn hotel is quite simply a masterpiece. When you enter the hotel it seems like you have taken a trip back in time. The architectural details, the black and white pictures of old La Jolla in the 1800s, and the old-style keys all give the impression that the hotel is a throwback to a bygone era. This impression is so strong that it takes some time to adjust. The attention to detail is simply phenomenal from the patina fountain in the lobby to the flower boxes on the balconies. If you are looking for a cold modern design hotel, this hotel is not for you. However if you are interested in first class service, true comfort, and a great experience of old fashion La Jolla then I recommend that you stay here. The location of this hotel is very central, and the parking allows us to leave our car and walk to shops, restaurants and the water. We stayed for three days, and I honestly could have lived there. The rooms are slightly on the small side, but the light that comes in from the balcony doors and the ocean air is phenomenal. The hotel is not expensive and dollar for dollar provides much greater value than competitors in the luxury boutique hotel space. I have stayed in La Jolla hotels that cost twice as much for the same space, service, and scene. None had the same ambiance.

Charm & Location!
By ,
Overall we had a fun, comfortable stay in this charming hotel which is in a great downtown La Jolla Village location right along the Pacific coast. We stayed at the La Jolla Inn for one night on a holiday weekend. It's a fun, downtown spot with great, comfortable rooms and a relaxed atmosphere. Ideal for leisure travel rather than business since the free Wi-Fi was spotty. Quaint is another way to describe the hotel. Not a complaint, just a note to keep in mind if you like modern and hip. The hotel is done very well with a nice comfortable atmosphere. We really love the terrace area which is definitely one of the hotel highlights with tables, chairs, lounge chairs and umbrellas. We were on the first floor past the lobby in a corner room with a sliding glass door and a balcony. The big glass doors really make the room. The bed was wonderfully comfortable with nice sheets and a unique quilt bedcover. We ate dinner at a great, fun restaurant we could easily walk to that served fondue and then listened to live music from the restaurant above the fondue place. Also, the hotel offers free, underground parking about 2 blocks from the hotel. So walking everywhere was easy and we didn’t have to move our car once. The breakfast that is also included had croissants and coffee and juice that were delivered right to our room, which was nice. Normally you see a breakfast bar laid out for continental style breakfasts. It was a great touch. Lovely people at the front desk but can’t really say on too much more than that because we had no special requests or needs. I would recommend this place if you like a quaint comfortable hotel in an excellent location versus a luxury resort.

A wonderful family vacation
By ,
My wife, and two kids (ages 3 & 6) stayed in Room 22 for four nights in September of 2010. When I booked the room I appreciated their honesty when they told me that the room is small for a family of four, but we decided to stay anyway since we were just planning on sleeping in the hotel and hanging out at the beach and going to Legoland. When we pulled up to the hotel we were very impressed with the overall aesthetics. The employee was very nice and informative. They provide us with free parking in a garage a few blocks away. Inside was clean. They have a cool little library section where you can sit and eat some free cookies and lemonade (or coffee). The top deck was closed for construction. Our room wasn't tiny, but it was small for a family of four...but we didn't mind. It worked out for us because we're low maintenance, but it would have been perfect for a romantic get away. We fit a cot in there and my two kids shared the cot at night. The room had a mini fridge, which we liked because we brought some milk and jelly and we were planning on storing some meals in there. My 3 year old hadn't really been on a vacation, so she wasn't sure what was going on, but after the 2nd day, she didn't want to leave. She actually cried when we told her we were heading home. We walked to the cove (which is one block away) and my daughter swam in the water while my son climbed the rocks. We spent most of our time relaxing. There was a nice park about 5 blocks away which has some great playgrounds the kids. There's tons of food and shops around. The hotel was in a perfect location. The only time we really had to drive anywhere is when we went to LegoLand (only a 20min drive). One day I walked past a room and I saw the cleaners doing some deep cleaning. All the furniture was moved around with cleaning supplies inside. I'm not sure if they do that after every stay or if it's a seasonal thing. Our room was spotless, so I'm assuming that cleanliness is a part of their hotel culture. My wife was 8 months pregnant on this trip, so she definitely appreciated the continental breakfast that they delivered every morning. We called in what we wanted and they brought some great croissants, muffins, pastries, cereal, and drinks to us. It was nice not having to worry about breakfast in the mornings. That definitely saved me from running to the store to feed my wife and kids. It also saved us some money. We brought our own beach towels and chairs, but one day we left them in the car in the parking garage and so we got some from the front desk. You go a lot of places where people want to charge you for everything and add fee upon fee. So with the free parking, the cookies, lemonade, breakfast, towels, and chair, we were very grateful that La Jolla Inn looks at the bigger picture in taking care of their guest. We had a lot of fun as a family and we want to thank La Jolla Inn for how well you take care of your Inn and your customers.
