GREAT HOTEL GREAT PRICE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/01/08
What a great place to stay, especially for the price. Although I stayed on the Ocean Side, I could have stayed on the Marina side for less, and still enjoyed my stay. I will definately return the next time I am in the area. Great service, although, they did not have a the esperesso machine working in the main bar.

Sure to return...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/02/08
the valet guy put our luggage into a different room from the one me and my gf had checked into. in the end, we like what we saw so we requested to stay in that 'wrong' room. glad that they allowed us to do so. very comfy and spacious room. the lounge was nicely done up. the internet connection was down during our second night there. the marina view from our 3rd floor room was refreshing.able to get many nice food in the area. we regret having too little time to spend in that area. so we made an agreement to return to that this hotel on our next visit to LA.

The Portofino's recent Grand Re-Opening!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/07
This property is simply outstanding. The restaurant Baleen is stunning, the hotel so charming.. the ballrooms are amazing, beautiful ocean views. I loved it!! They recently had their Grand Re-Opening, and the hotel was totally made over perfectly. Do yourself a favor and discover this slice of paradice in the South Bay!

Had a pleasant stay...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/04/06
I almost got scared away by the number of bad reviews this place got. I actually had a pleasant, problem-free stay. The room was nicely done--a bit on the smaller side. The bathroom/amenities were also nice and the hotel staff was courteous. The one con was our parking-lot view.

we can't wait to return!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/13/06
we loved everything about this hotel. first, the great service. people who work there are really nice and pleasent. the Hotel is very clean. Then, there is the fantastic view from every room. we still have that mental pickture in our heads. Then the heated pool and jecuzi which is located right over this amazing marina view. Lets not forget the sea lions in the water that create a magical experiance and in addition the gandola ride in the marin with wine and cheese plate durring a calm evening. Plus the amazing restaurant located a few steps away also overlooking the marina. just perfect. we were there two months ago and we are going back in a couple of weeks. just what the doctor ordered!

The Hotel is fantastic! The service is awful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/05
The hotel itself is romantic and beautiful.. BUT the staff is horrible! They are incompetent! They made our experience a nightmare, because of their employees at the desk who cannot learn how to make a reservation! They ended up refunding one night and discounting the others due to their mistakes..Also, there is NO fast internet access! It is archaic dial-up! But it was a birthday and that is inexcusable! The sea lions are within 1/2 mile from the hotel and you can hear their roar from the rooms' balcony or patio! Endlessly, sailboats glide by....The lobby is breathtakingly comfortable with giant open windows and a cozy fireplace at night! Love the hotel.. Hate the management!

The Worst Place Ever!!!!! Beware!!
By Tim, 06/20/05
I just booked on 06-18-05 and had to wait 1 hour ( NO LIE) to check in because of incompetence. I booked an ocean front room, confirmed the rooms availability before I drove 1.5 hours to get there and was told at arrival that the room was not to be had. I was told I could wait 3 hours for a less desireable room on the first floor. The manager called me a liar and said that I didn't call in and confirm anything. The room I read about on the website stated that it was over 600 sq. ft. The room I finally got after 1 hour was the original room I was suppose to receive and it wasn't at all the room that was confirmed over the phone or advertised on the website.I think the rooms totla sq. footage was less than 450 sq. ft.. It was a small cramped little room that could not hold the amount of people that I had reserved it for. The manager is smug and doesn't comprehend his position as a manager. The whole feeling of having a relaxing day at the beach was ruined by the attitude of the workers at this hotel. I was given a extra room but only after 1 hour of complaining and rejecting other rooms that could host a roll away bed. If you are smart you will book at the Beach House. I totally regret having stayed at this hotel. It bumed my whole parties mood and ruined my sister's last day in Los Angeles. Ohh, don't expect to get the owners name or highest ranking manager either. That request was completely ignored. As we left the hotel the following morning the manager didn't even address us or ask us if our stay was satisfactory.

On the water
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/05
There were 2 great things about the hotel. It was right on the water, and our mattress was great. We were on the first floor, and couldn't see over the breakwater. 2nd or 3rd floors would have been much better. Also, if you're on the east side, you'll have a view of the parking lot.
