Good Hotel, Very Good Location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/6/11
Can't complain about the location of the hotel. Very central and convenient. It's a typical San Francisco hotel which is small and old but renovated to look modern. Come on~ it's SF! Buildings are old and space very tight. Unless you're going to SF to sit around in the hotel room, it's a nice hotel with a comfy bed. Bathroom was little tight and had an odd ventilation but clean. My room was on the other side of the street so it was quiet at night. Overall good hotel, very good location, good price(can get little pricey at times)

sleeping in a closet
By John Crawford, 8/16/08
I am so disappointed with this hotel that im writing a review the first night im here and i haven't even been to sleep yet. If you like sleeping in a closet and don't want any windows to your room than this place is good for you.... the executive queen is a terrible choice, thats what i am in and the room is just wide enough for a bed a little long and no windows. They say complimentary internet but when I try and use it it says I have to pay. Don't stay here if you can avoid it.

Overpriced but good location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/07
For $200 plus per night this place is awful. Property is OLD, cleanliness is questionable, rooms are very tiny and it really needs a renovation. On the positive side, location is good, and wireless is free. I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quaint Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/2/07
The staff are really friendly and accommodating, which for me is just the best. They have nice rituals such as coffee/tea in the lobby in the morning and also free wine at 5:00 p.m. I sat in the lobby and had a glass of wine in the evening after the conference and that was just really sweet! It's a small place and people, both staff and guests were friendly. It was close to my conference at the Hilton and so was a perfect location. Originally, the staff put me in a room without a window and I have never stayed in a place without a window. I asked to move and they were great and found me a room overlooking the street. I had a ceiling fan and windows that opened. I loved it, but I had earplugs to block the cable car noise in the night. My room was tiny as compared to the one without a window. But, it was fine and I enjoyed the personality of this hotel. It is an old hotel and reminded me of staying in my grandmother's place in Seattle. My car is right next door in the garage and I have access to it. The garage is small and costs about $30.00 per day, a lot of money, but the convenience was worth it to me. It is not a super full service hotel but I found it to be a great and satisfying experience!

Almost anyplace but here
By Alan, 5/12/07
As a frequent traveler, and as one who prefers the Union Square area, I can only say "Let the buyer beware." There are so many hotels in that area that you really can't go wrong if you stay anywhere but here. In my experience, a total rip-off.

What a dump!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/18/07
The room that is shown in their advertisment as a two queen bed room does not exist. The photo in the hotels ad on their website is actually two room put together to look like one two bed room and a sitting area. The room we were given looked worse than a college dorm. No air conditioning, broken raw wood shelves to put your clothes on (no closet or dresser or draws)and a dirty bathroom. When we complained we were moved to another room that looked a little better had no air conditioning and the heat control was broken and the heat could not be turned off. The temperature outside was 75 degrees. We checked out the next day and moved to a different hotel. This hotel is a rip off. We spend the week at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel just a few blocks away for $15.00 more per night we had a beautiful clean room with air conditioning in a lovely hotel.

Decent Hotel
By Dinamael, 3/13/07
Good location, small rooms, no AC, quaint style. I'd recommend it for proximity to Market Street businesses and Moscone Center for conventions. There are hotels closer to the water if you're a tourist and want to walk everywhere.

You get what you pay for
By Mirabel, 10/26/06
You get what you pay for....This hotel has a great location for the price and depending on the room you get it could be a wonderful or horrible experience...We had both during our visit so I'll tell you about both.Just be sure to bring some disinfecting wipes and some candles for the musty smell in the rooms We originally booked a room with two double beds room through hotels.com and since we had a discounted rate they gave away our room preference and we were stuck with a room with two twin beds on the first night. The manager Peter, who needs a lesson in hospitality and tact explained the policy of room availability to us in the most condescending tone imaginable when we asked why we were not getting the room we paid for. The rest of the hotel staff was wonderful, helpful and friendly. First the unpleasant experience...... At first we were given a room that they already had given to someone else and it was an unpleasant surprise walking into a room that had someone else's belongings and seeing firsthand how relaxed their security was. The first night we stayed in room 228... You could probably get a better room at one of the local hostelsat least it was not the haunted room (according to the rumors, it's 207). The room was extremely small and was part of the fire escape route so in the event of an emergency people would have to run through your room, but on the bright side youd be the first one out.. The bathroom was extremely small (about 5x5 or comparable to an airplane bathroom with a tiny shower) and if you are any larger than a size 10 good luck getting into the shower. Also, the sink was so small that you could not place your toiletries on the sink. There is no air conditioning so when we turned on the ceiling fan it wiggled so much that it looked (the base of the fan and the arm holding the blades looked as if they were going to separate) and sounded (squeakiest fan ever) as though it were going to fall off the ceiling right on to your bed directly underneath it. If you want to leave the window open ...since the fan is so loud and squeaky....you risk having someone from the next room or someone coming in through the fire escape into your room....since we were two women leaving that window open was not a viable option. Also, this room has a door or half door since half of it is a window, which is covered with white paper and white blinds so at night the room is illuminated from the lights in the hallway....I would request this room if you are afraid of the dark!! Now for a somewhat better experience......The second night we stayed in room 325. This room had two double beds and it was a huge improvement over the first room. The bathroom had a bathtub and the sink had enough counter space to accommodate your toiletries. The only complaints about this room is that the fan in the bathroom didn't work and they didnt do a good job of cleaning the bathroom floor, which still had small hairs on it and a few Clorox wipes took care of that

The greatest city in the world!
By Jonathan, 8/24/06
This is a wonderful hotel as the location is perfect. Union Square is so handy for one of the cable car stops (though the name escapes me!) There's also plenty of shops and restaurants in the locality. The rooms are nice, we slept 4 quite comfortably and there was plenty of storage for our large cases! Internet access is available too - though you have to book yourself in as it gets busy because there is only one computer. But it's down in the basement in a little office style room so it's a nice environment. The corcierge was excellent too - always on hand with ideas and advice, so use them as that's what they're there for!
