A dump with rude staff and poor service
By ,
The "best room we have" overlooked a pigeon crap covered tin roof. There was no l mirror other than the smallest one over the sink, the carpeting was disgusting. I left a pair of very expensive shoes in the room, when I called back, they were not found - we were told the housekeeper had been with the hotel a very long time and that she was honest. Maybe the pigeons flew in and took my shoes. The booking was a nightmare and the min-suite we were promised disappeared in favor of the disgusting ocean front "upgrade." Stay anywhere else you can find.

Don't waste your time
The place is a dump. We paid extra for an ocean view room that was smaller than all the other rooms in the hotel. the carpet was dirty and the bed was gross. we did not even stay the night we left the room vacant for 2 days and booked another hotel in Newport.

What was that?
By ,
Lovely lobby and bar/patio downstairs. Then the rickety elevator ride up to see our "village view room". Elevator door opens upstairs to what looks like a tenement. Filthy carpet, musty smelling air, we headed for the red light at the end of the passage to our room. The door opens to more filthy carpet(you would never walk around bare feet!), bad lighting, very noisy room(the windows do not shut tightly and the noise from the bar across the street is just getting started at 11:30p.m.). Very low and uncomfortable mattress. The bed spread had many unconfirmed visible stains(OH MY GAWD!!!!). The furniture looked like it never had a good day.... Even if the room price was "fair" for Laguna, it still is not worth your while. Find a branded motel in the area close by that is AAA guaranteed! Fair to say that Mr Claes Andersen has not remodeled the village view room we saw since 1985 when it was allegedly refurbished. The online photos should give examples of the bad rooms also!

Avoid the Village View Rooms
Great location, nice small private beach, historic building, in the heart of town. NO ac, small rooms, NOISY!!!! No ac, you must open a window, not a good idea. The noise never ends. No sleep, uncomfortable small bed, pay to park ($10.00 per night) little continental breakfast. Maybe the rooms that cost more that face the ocean are bigger and quieter.

Walk around before you bother
By ,
HOTEL LAGUNA We fell for the updated entrance and the resturant was great BUT once in a room the place is not only dirty but take walk up stairs and take a good look at the rusted fire escapes, termite ridden wood work and barely working ice machine. We complained about the plugged up tub 4 times and when we checked out with it still plugged no one had any record. The manager was gone on 4th of july leaving a staff that urged us to help them by complaining...really a sad place and NOT, I REPEAT NOT worth it, save your memories for someplace better/money. If anyone finds this place worth it they need to experience what a GOOD (or even just clean) hotel is really about...to qoute the teenagers in the lobby "this place sucks"

Don't bother - Badly needs updating, not worth the money
By ,
We stayed at the Hotel Laguna for one night wanting a relaxing getaway that's on the beach but within walking distance to restaurants, nightlife, etc. While the location is good, the hotel for the price is terrible. We paid $240 - supposedly a discounted AAA rate for a "garden & ocean view" room. And that was a Thurs night when it's week-day (not the higher weekend) pricing. While I could see and hear the ocean, the rooms were horrible. I've stayed in 2 star motels and Quality Inn's that were cleaner and more updated! The lobby made it look promising, but it stopped there. The room was very small (and I travel to New York city frequently and have had bigger rooms for the price), the carpet had black spots, the walls looked like they haven't been painted in 20 years (scratch marks, dirt, cracks), the brown bed comforter looked well-used and dingy, the room was small and had early 80's fabric furniture & headboard that also looked old, the bathroom tile was cracked and grout was black in many spots, there was a very small old sink that only had only one knob working - hot water only, the cold didn't work - and the courtyard I looked down on had plastic tables & chairs and was not used by anyone. If you go to their web site you'll notice a lack of pictures - I get why! And while they say they have a "private beach" - its on the main beach in Laguna with everyone else, they just rope off about 35 feet by 20 feet of space in front of their hotel and put out some chairs. This place has potential and could become charming if the owners would put even a little money in to renovating it (carpet, paint, new bedspread, new headboard - the curtains were the only nice thing in the room). But in the meantime, for $230 you can get a WAY better hotel room in Laguna Beach. I was extremely dissapointed and won't return unless its given an overhaul - or pricing was half of what they're charging.

It was amazing! I had a blast! The only thing i would say needs a tad bit of help is the cleanliness! Other than that it was our best vacation ever! Great for families and friends!

Historic Laguna Beach
By ,
This is the historic Laguna Beach. Great location and history. Rooms fairly clean. Dated by size and amenities. Bathroom sink dripped endlessly. But it was nice. Great to enjoy Laguna and walk.
