Loved it
By ,
We stayed in the garden suite the week after new year. Beautiful ! Spacious. 2,adults, 3 kids. Godly views of the pool, the ocean, whales/dolphins in the ocean, palm trees, impeccable gardens, sunsets. It was heaven on earth, great staff, great food, warm pool, great hot tub. No one bugged us, was not pretentious, relaxing. The hotel was under construction, staffed offered another room during visit because of noise, we would of not given up the garden suite for a million dollars, noise was nothing. I plan to return time and time and again, for years to come. La Jolla coves are picturesque. Hotel was gorgeous, great location for shopping and dining. For romance or a quite family vacation can not be beat, east or west coast. Staff was professional, task oriented, strictly business. Best regards- Greg and Caroline Wetherall

The Lovely La Valencia
By ,
“The Pink Lady” has been a landmark in La Jolla since 1926. It's a wonderful hybrid between traditional Spanish Colonial architecture and a really classy deluxe hotel with great service. If you stay here, you’ll have a choice of 112 rooms, suites, and villas. All enjoy a restful shades-of-beige decor and some have ocean views. Families usually opt for the connecting rooms in the three-story West Wing. Honeymooners splurge on one of the 16 spacious villa rooms or suites that come with fireplaces, pool or ocean view, open beam ceiling, plantation shutters, and very large bathrooms. On-site facilities include an ocean-view pool, fitness center, and a business center that’s open 24/7. One of the few drawbacks is that La Valencia doesn't have a spa, but treatments can be done in guestrooms, I live within walking distance of the hotel, but I still go there quite often. Like many local residents, I like the ambience and enjoy the hotel's restaurants and bars. La Sala is my favorite place in La Jolla for a drink. There's more information at La Jolla Travel Information .

Will not stay ANYWHERE else! Amazing!
By ,
We just returned from a 4 night stay at the La Valencia and our experience could not have been better! The hotel is completely 5 star AND pet friendly - two things you rarely find together. The hotel is very beautiful with its lush gardens and Mediterranean look and feel. The service was impeccable! I took my 55 pound standard poodle with me and they treated her like a queen. I love traveling with my dog, but most hotels have such a long "don't" list, like never leave your dog in the room unattended, that you can't even go to dinner and so taking her just isn't possible. When we checked in they apoligized for not having my room "dog ready", which for them meant brining in a bed and dishes for her. She was greated at the front desk with a "homemade", organic bone and a dog tag that said, "I am a guest at the La Valencia" and it had their number on it in case she got lost. She was welcome almost everywhere at the hotel - lobby, pool, most restaurants, and everywhere on the grounds. Each time we past the front desk she was given a treat. My dog is my baby and so her treatment is very important to me. However, I too was treated like a queen! We stayed in the Sunset Room and had views of the Ocean and Scripts Park from every window, balcony and both sets of French doors. The bed was so amazing I stayed in it till noon every day - something I never do! The hotel, the room, the service and the food were all well above my standards and I am VERY picky and always stay 4 star or higher. I could not recommend any hotel more! Treat yourself to this hotel and I guarantee you will be back again!

one of our favorite places in the world
By ,
Have stayed there many times. Am bringing my whole family to stay in July to celebrate my 70th birthday. Love the central location, Pacific view, courtyard for lunches & Sunday brunch, visiting the seals on the beach accross the street..........I could go on & on. Love places that when you check-in, ask you your choice of Sun. newspaper. Little things mean alot!!! Maria Miller

Never Eat There On An Empty Stomach
By ,
My wife and I waited half an hour for our order to be taken and then waited over an hour and a half. Nothing. Finally, we left because we had to be somewhere else. Judging from the other people around us, it may have taken at least another half hour for the food to arrive. I should add that the Whaling Bar is nice. I would never eat at this hotel, however. Well, let me amend that; I would eat there, but only if I had a full meal somewhere else first

Great Hotel!
By ,
This place is awesome! Its an older hotel but has all the creature comforts of the newer places. The staff was quite simply the best I have ever experienced. We needed maintenance for a minor issue with the room safe and they showed up in 3 minutes, left to get a new safe and returned again in 5 minutes. From the Valets the front desk staff, they were all great. We got a free room upgrade too. All the amenities of the fancy places at a reasonable cost relatively speaking. Highly recommend this hotel.

Beware the rooms
By ,
The public areas are quite nice but the rooms are very, very small - we had to turn sideways to walk around the wed - and the decor was terrible. It was like Edith Prickley from SCTV designed them - awful leopard-skin with hideous chandelier and one mirrored wall (no doubt to make the teeny tiny room appear bigger). NO closet space - the tiny closet was filled with the in-room safe and in-room regrigerator. One of the two small windows was broken, as was the electrical outlet below it. We could not escape to the beautiful but small lobby because the hotel had rented it out for a private party! When we complained the hotel sent a bottle of complimentary wine up to our room. Unfortunately it was late and we had gone to bed and put a "do not disturb" sign on the door, but they knocked anyway. (What use are do not disturb signs if staff ignores them?) We could not sleep well in the warm room and could not open the window because of the noise of a private party being held below. Hotel is very old - needs to be raced and replaced but I realize it is considered historic. We would not stay here again.

The Perfect Honeymoon
By ,
My husband and I live in NY but eloped to La Jolla in 1995. We had originally booked another hotel, but found it to be run down. So we went into town and found La Valencia. It is beautiful and when we told the concierge our dilemna, he got us a wonderful room overlooking the ocean and the staff could not do enough for us. They were all so helpful and really excited about us getting married. They also have an incredible restaurant on the upper floor. The food and service were amazing - definitely try the creme brulee - we have never had one as good since! The hotel also offers local limo service. La Valencia holds wonderful memories for us.
