Not even if you paid me, stay somewhere else
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/28/09
I checked in @ 4pm and went directly to a wedding about 10 minutes up the road. When I returned @ 2am there were people in my room. I went down to the desk and they gave me another room (the shift supervisor took care of us and did not apologize for the mishap at all) we got to our room around 3, slept til 8 and were out by 9. Before we left the staff slipped a bill under our door for the charges that the people ran up in my original room. This was on 9/12-9/13, I still have about $1300 pending on my credit card from the hotel. I talked to the finance office and they said they'd take care of it. I'm not quite sure what the $426.97 charge on 9/22 is all about either. All and all, there were more complaints than anything else from the people I know that stayed there that night. My advice, go somewhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!

horrible service
By REd DeviL, 04/30/09
Long story short, the elevator got stuck during our event. We were later told that they had been having issues with that particular elevator before. People were stuck inside for over an hour. They had no service elevator so the firemen that arrived had to wait 30 minutes for an elevator, a few tried going up the 13 flights of stairs but made it at the same time as the others on the elevator. They would not accept complete responsibility, and we were treated with horrible customer service much of our time there. Staff seriously needs training in simple manners, much less customer service. We were called in the middle of the night, woken up, just to sign something. Go with something better. Anything.

Great Time Spectacular Views
By susan, 02/24/09
when we checked in the girl at the front had a smile on her face and was very pleasent. The room was amazing! the views from our balconey made me want to stay forever. EVERY room had a balconey and they all had views of the ocean. went down for dinner at the restaurant downstairs. The food was a little pricey but well worth every bite! We were within walking distance to all the cute shops on main street and enjoyed not having to drive every where we went. we are going back in may!

Very disappointed!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/25/08
We booked this hotel with Priceline for $90 a night and stayed for 2 nights. When we first arrived, they gave us a room that was still being cleaned. We had to go back down and get another room. Then we were given a room with one king bed and we had 4 people in our party! They finally got it right by the 3 time! Small rooms and the trains were loud! The pool was cold and there was not a spa to warm up in. When we asked the front desk for a good restaurant to have breakfast...no one had an idea were we could go! Our advise is to skip Ventura altogether...or visit Main street and leave to the next town to sleep.

A sad surprise
By Jimmmy, 06/01/08
My family and I checked into the hotel around 8PM. I asked for a some help in moving our bags and the frontdesk found me a cart but were unable to find someone to help us get our bags to the room. The room was a big disappointment. Too small, tiny bacony, TV was old stýle etc.. The restaurant was very expensive to say the least. We ordered a piza and it took more then 1 and a half hours to arrive. The location is great, beach is right next to you. I plan to stay in the area again, but not at this hotel. # Signed Disappoint customer

they need an event coordinator
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/13/08
we booked a professional function in one their meeting rooms for 145 people and there was no one coordinating the events. We needed more chairs and tables and there was no one to talk to. The people at the front desk were so untrained. At 7:00 am, I asked the front desk to change and update the activity notice by the front door. I warned them that attendees would be starting to trickle in by 7:30 for the 8:00 AM seminar and the notice that was up was for the committee member meeting from the day before. The notice stayed unchanged until way past the start of the seminar and the attendees were confused as to the end time of the seminar. The day prior to the seminar, the planning committee members arrived. There was a lot of confusion amongst the members because the front desk personnel were totally unaware of what events were going on in the hotel. We kept asking for the Perianesthesia group and they (3) did not know that they had booked then in one of the smaller meeting rooms. The hotel was comfortable, clean with a gorgeous view but our experience in booking the meeting was very disapppointing. The front desk staff needs to be better trained and knowledgeable on the events that are scheduled for the day/week in their hotel.

don't go to the restaurant!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/07
We went to the restaurant for a little desert. Even though the coffee and deserts were good, we were surprised at the cost. $22.00, for 2 coffees, and 2 deserts. The restaurant seemed to be a want-a-be, high classed restaurant. The hotel was okay, with comfortable beds, and nice sheets, but they need to remodel more before we go back. The walls are still very thin. We could here the people next doors conversation, and of course, their 3 kids running and jumping, and screeming. Also, the train runs right next to the hotel, and is very loud, and the last one goes by at 11:00pm. But the worst thing was the parking. You not only have to pay to park there, but you have to have a ticket to get in and out of the parking lot. My ticket of course, didn't work, so I could not get out until, I pulled over to the side, and ran back in to get another ticket, to get out of the parking lot. VERY INCONVIENVENT !!! There are way too many nice hotels in Ventura, for me to hassel with this one again. Won't go again

Disapointed this time
By Raeann, 08/06/07
At $179 a night, this hotel was lacking some of the amenities I would expect a hotel on the beach to have. The two bed rooms are small, Absolutly no closet space or drawer space. This room is not big enough for a family of four. The King bed room is bigger and more closet space. The house keeping staff is awesome, but we had a problem with the bar staff. He wouldn't charge me a cork fee for a bottel of wine I bought outside of the hotel. I checked with the hotel mgr and he said he should of charged me a cork feeand he said I couldnt drink it in the bar area. Another problem we has was with the pool, it was growing algae and the pool area wasn't clean, very disapointing. It was summer and hot. There also seems to be a plumbing problem, I thought the toliet was going to overflow every time I flushed. Its nice that it is walking distance to town.

Nice place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/18/07
The hotel is right on the beach which is great. The hotel is undergoing significant remodeling for the better. Rooms are clean with nice furnishing. Convenient location. Friendly staff.

Only place I want to stay in Ventura Beach
By berley, 12/02/06
When we arrived, pretty late, we discovered the hotel was still under contruction--a lot of construction! The room they put the 3 of us in was too small and we had a terrific view of a noisy parking garage. Now for the good part...the next morning while walking, my mom came across the manager and told him of our plight, after all we has travelled from SC and had been told this was the best hotel. The mangager personally apologized to me for as it turned out we WERE in the the wrong room. He personally helped us move our belongings to a lovely room with an awesome view of the beach, gave me his card and was very clear that upon my next visit I must call him and be assured there will be no further errors. He was true to his word. The rest of our 5 day stay was awesome! The hotel is very close to the lovingly restored downtown. Park your car at the hotel, you won't need it. The mainstreet area is about 3 blocks away and all the store fronts are vintage. Even the movie theater has an art deco facade--and only takes cash (awesome!), there are cafes, book shops, parks and gardens. Camera collectors, there is a shop on Main street you must check out. The hotel also plays host to a crafters market each weekend during the summer and is pretty close to the pier--awesome views and you will love the sunsets! When you make your reservation, be clear about your needs and the staff WILL provide. I can honestly say of all the Holiday Inn Hotels I have stayed in, this was the best--construction mess and all. I look forward to returning and seeing the updated product.
