Clean

Very nice and clean rooms, what we liked the most was that it was a 10 minute walk to Union Square and a short drive everywhere else.

Safety
By ,
Hotel is nice inside but wear a bullet proof vest when you go outside at anytime of the day. Anything could happen to you. The resturant in the Hotel is horrible. When it comes to helping you out with service that is a 1 on a scale of 10. Stay in the Warf. Stay away from this hotel.

what a nightmare
By ,
Our vacation started out great until 3am. My travelling companion woke up complaining about severe itching. We turned on the lights to find bite marks on all of his exposed skin; face, neck, hands, feet. We pulled back the covers to find small bugs crawling between the sheet and mattress. The front desk and security was called. We were told that the previous occupant had brought a dog with him and it had probably brought the bugs in with it. Nice try; these weren't fleas, they were bed bugs. They were even inside the pillow cases. We were given another room (at 3am). For the next few days, my friend had to deal with stares from passers-by because of the swelling and scarring on his face. We were not provided any medical care or attention and had to just deal with it. However, were not charged for the night of inconvenience. Nice. I sent a letter to corporate when we returned home and got a form letter in response. This was a few years ago, but I recently came across some pictures and was reminded of the reasons my friend remembers our trip to San Francisco and it wasn't because of the scenery.

Likely to choose another next time
By ,
We requested adjoining rooms and they were across the hall from one another, then the one room had a very unsightly hole in the ceiling, water damage that was never repaired, and one of the two phones did not work. The front desk sent us 2 floors down to an adjoining set of smoking section rooms, which were much better. Beds were not comfy and the shower, well I don't think I've ever experienced hot and cold alternations like that before during a shower. I did like the balcony and the Orpheum was very close if anyone is attending an event there. There was an atm very close as well. The pool looked nice. Just okay but we had fun regardless - the city is always a good time.

Good hotel, convenient location
By ,
I stayed two nights in this hotel and enjoyed the very convenient location in downtown San Francisco. The hotel is located on 8th St, off of Market St. Yes, there are plenty of homeless people in the area, but that's because this is a city. If you can't deal with walking by some homeless people, why are you in a city at all? You can't avoid it, it's part of life. The area is not the greatest, but I Market St is not bad, and always has plenty of people. Some of the adjacent side streets can be dicey. I never felt unsafe at this hotel. The room was neat and well-kept. Room service prices are very high, but they are prompt. I ordered once through their online ordering system, and they never got the order. Stick to the phone. Wifi was speedy most of the time, occasionally slowed down. Best aspect is the location -- right in downtown SF, and a couple steps to BART and MUNI. I would definitely stay here again, especially for the price.

Good Hotel, Good Service, Bad Location
By ,
I and my wife and kids recently stayed at the Holiday Inn, Civic Center, in San Francisco. The neighborhood at Market and Eighth was one of the worst in downtown San Francisco. We were regularly approached for money and had to walk around dozens of homeless lying on the sidewalk. If you have kids or are planning on walking around downtown after dark, choose another location for your hotel. Hotel staff was good and friendly. Ask for room on 12-14th floors, as a key card is needed to access these floors from the elevator. "Kids eat free" option in hotel restaurant may be only way to make up for the high prices on all menu items. Amenities: free wireless internet, but "coffeemaker" is hot water-maker that comes with instant coffee tea bags. There was no desk in the room we stayed in - only small round table. Made it difficult to sit down and do business work. Asian Museum, Chinese buffet across the street and closeness to buses and BART station were only positives re: location. Unless you get a great price on the rooms, or you're comfortable fending off requests for money, look for another location in downtown SF.

The Best Place On Earth!
By ,
The rooms at this hotel were absolutely gorgeous. They smelled a lot like hotels, as my 11- year old daughters like very much, and was very fun for us. We had a great time in sacramento, thanks to the Holiday Inn Civic Center.

Avoid This Area
By ,
The hotel itself was an average hotel. The main problem is that the hotel is located in such a dodgy area, there's plenty of homeless people asking for money, and it just doesnt feel safe. Simply walking up the street can be a weird sensation. I spent New Years there and i couldnt even leave the room, worried that there i would be mugged getting back

Basic, but OK for 2 guys!
By ,
Just returned from a 3 night stay January, 2007 for $119/night. First room had slipery wet soap on the bathroom floor and dirty towels in the sink- obvoiusly not ready. Second room, the tub was filthy! They cleaned it at 9:30 pm for us, that was nice. Showered the next morning in 6 inches of water! Told the staff about the drainage problem, next day, almost as bad for the first shower, better for second. 3rd day shower was fine. Asked for a down feather pillow, got hollowfill, but he insisted it was feather. It wasn't! Parking was $31 per night ($27 plus tax), almost as much as the rental itself! Rental car was available through the gift shop - $39/day. Gas was $6.75 per gallon for 4 gal, so 1 short day was $81. Ouch! The walk from Moscone Convention Center was not too long, but scary!! BART subway was convenient.

Loud Noise!
By ,
It felt like I was sleeping on a cardboard, beds were horrible, moldy smell in the sink and shower curtain, loud noise from the elevator and floor above.
