Howard Johnson Pacific Grove, Pacific Grove

Short walk to Asilomar Beach, nice quiet beach. Seems converted from vaca. condos...more rustic but more private, solid, and quiet than a hotel. Breakfast basic, but juice, waffle machine super. The staff was nice+quick to help. Laundry machines for each bldng, a fridge. Very good deal! Pacific Grove is a quiet little town, with a nice little bookstore, cool antiques and thrift-stores, and a super little Thai restaurant, among other things. Nice home base, though supermart is a bit away in Monterey.

I was placed at Howard Johnson's as part of an overflow conference at Asilomar. East coast HoJos have a somewhat cheesy reputation but this facility was a pleasant surprise. Located in a residential neighborhood, the facility appears to be a quiet garden apartment house complex. Each building has three floors--I did not observe any elevators nor were there valets. My suite was spacious, featuring a full kitchen, complete with dishes, oven, stove, cook top and full sized refrigerator. There was a separate dining area with a table and chairs. A patio with a privacy fence was easily accessible from the sliding doors from the living room area and from the bedroom area.The bath was adequate. There were two tvs and free high speed internet connection. My room featured a king sized bed. The thermostat worked and I was able to adjust the heat and air to my liking. My only real criticism was that some of the furniture was really cheap, especially the uncomfortable sofa in the living area, chair in the bedroom area and the bureaus. I would also skip the complimentary continental breakfast which consisted of the cold and dry-- cereal, danish and coffee. There is no restaurant on site but my room came with delivery menus from local establishments. This hotel is close to Monterey and within walking distance of Asilomar. Local cabs and the Monterey airbus do stop there and it is within walking distance of a bus route. There are garages for those with vehicles. My stay here was quite enjoyable. The facility was quiet and the full kitchen provides an economical alternative to dining out. Be aware, that you do have to lug your belongings up some stairs to get to your suite. however, all in all this was a pleasant surprise.

We chose the Howard Johnson's in Pacific Grove because we were traveling with teenagers and we wanted them to have a separate room. We had one room with a double bed for my husband and I, and a separate room with two twin beds for our teenagers. There were TVs in each room, and there was a microwave and refrigerator. We found a place to rent boogie boards and wet suits just a few blocks away, and the Asilomar Beach was less than 5 minutes beyond that. We will bring our bikes back and explore the trails the next time we stay there. The hotel is in a quiet residential area. It is a short drive from Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, and Laguna Seca. There are also lots of covered parking spaces. There is internet access and breakfast is included with the room. The hotel is old and definitely in need of a face lift. Nevertheless, we would recommend this place for families who need the extra room.

I am very much impressed with this hotel. The price was exceptional for the room we had. The front desk was really helpful and let us check into our room early and check out late! The room itself was fantastic. It was very clean, roomy, and updated. We also were very lucky as our room had a good view. It was really a good deal. We definitely plan on returning.

I happened to stay here for two nights.The hotel staff were very cordial and caring.The rooms were just good and the amenities were at par with the price.Cleanliness was good.Without much hype this one is a better hotel.I liked the climate and the location of the place .I think it is worth a second visit.

A friendly hotel. I was to find a reasonable priced hotel, at the last minute, that would also provide a clean and comfortable accommodation. I am really pleased with this hotel in Monterey. They were very hospitable. I will definitely stay at this hotel the next time I visit this area.

We got the King Suite with full kitchen. The place was spacious, comfortable and clean. The kitchen had cooking and eating utensils - plates, bowls, glasses, cups, spoons, forks, knives etc. The fridge, microwave and kitchen stove were in working order. The was a large balcony too. My 2 boys had fun running around the place. There were 2 TVs so we didn't have to fight over them. All in all, it was a very pleasant surprise to find this place. We will definitely return if we visit Monterey again.

the hotel was great. the room was great. the food was great. the pool was great. the service was great. i would stay here again.
