Pool closed by health Department Beware
By Jeff Suess, 9/7/09
We had planned a family trip to the Gold Country with my wife and 4 kids. When we arrived, we realized that the pictures we saw on the web, must have been very old. The place looked run down. The pool that is glistening and blue in the website was green with algae, full of stuff and closed (by the Health Department according to the Hotel Manager). There appeared to be someone living in a lower corner unit (BBQ going, boxes stacked on side of building). There was mold on the canopy over the office and well, that was enough it was 100 degrees and the kids had wanted a pool, so we headed into Sonora and had a great stay at the Gunn hotel. We contacted the Columbia Inn and I asked for the owner to call me (they never did). The manager argued that she told everyone about the pool when they called (we booked online, so i guess were out of luck). We didn't go in any of the rooms, we heard many comments in town about the Columbia Inn and I just want everyone to know what you are getting if you go there. You have been warned.

Visit Often Love the Place
By danya, 7/22/09
My husband and myself visit the motel often. It is an older motel that is clean, quit, comfortable. Managers are very nice and helpful. I really like it and will be returning very soon, and the price is right. Its close to everything. We have fun and enjoy our stay everytime we are there.

Huge Value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/13/07
It's true the place could use a facelift, but hey for the price, this place is great. The people at the front desk were very nice, and helpfull. I also felt safe, and could walk to the park in less then 5 minutes.

Bring Blanket
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/10/07
While it is near the historic district, you had better bring along a blanket and an electric space heater if you intend on staying in below-zero weather; there was NO OPERATING BUILT-IN HEAT in our room. The clerk did not inform us of that fact until we had already moved in for the night. While there was a built-in bath, it was too cold to enjoy it. Next time we will try the quaint Columbia City Hotel instead.

We loved it!
By Nonyabiznus, 8/13/07
The room was perfect... location, size, value. My husband and I and our 2 year old truly enjoyed our visit. The owners are VERY nice and accommodating. Of course, the hotel is older and could use a little updating. However, for the price and location, who cares!

Skip this experience, you'll be money ahead
By RobH, 9/22/05
I wanted to stay at a nice place while visiting the state park. I reserved this on-line and when I got here was horrified. I checked out and went to a very nice place down the street with cabins, very comfy and romantic. Do yourself a favor and check it out before staying.

Great! Awsome Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/15/05
I stay there with my family at least twice a summer. The pool is always clean, the new paint job and renovations they have done to the place are awsome. They are really working hard on the place.

Charming little motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/11/05
My husband and I were visiting the gold country, and found this charming little motel. The owners are new, but very friendly and knowledgable. The room was very clean, comfortable, and quiet. The location is excellent. Only a minutes walk to the state park from the motel. Also, very fairly priced, unlike some of the other motels in the area that don't even offer private bathrooms, pool or t.v. We will definatley stay next time we are in Columbia. Would recommend to anyone.

Don't waste your time
We went to Columbia to see the old western downtown and had planned on staying the night and having breakfast the next morning before heading home. After we checked in, we noticed that the room reaked of cigarette smoke, the heat didn't work, the TV channels were all fuzzy and the place was generally a dump. We decided that it would be better to cut our losses and drive home that night. Don't make the same mistake as us, pick a different place in Columbia or commute to Sonora.
