Very comfortable!
By ,
Our room was very comfortable, clean and had many amenities. The kids loved the variety of things they could choose from at the continental breakfast and the excercise room and pool were also a plus!

If you want to walk to restaurants and stores, NOT the place. Some of the rooms are worn out. Our first room was so bad that we asked for a new one, that one was cleaner but so small no place to put luggage and the hotel had no folding luggage racks. We ended up putting our luggage on an ironing board. Lobby and exterior worn out. To embarrassed to have family meet us there

Fire Trap
By ,
We were evacuated at 1:00 a.m. from this hotel after a city fire department inspection revealed severe code violations, including inoperable sprinkler and alarm systems, stuck exit doors, and non-functional fire hose hookups. Hotel management was rude, unapologetic, and did almost nothing for the 100+ guests that had to pack up and leave. Need I say more?

Poor wheelchair accesability, bad WiFi.
By ,
Accessible rooms had king beds that were 32 inches high. My mom could not get on this bed, bath had grab bars but no seat. Dining room was so crowded with seats and tables we could not get in. They did not have room that can accommodate the three of us and my mom had to sleep in a rollaway, that was too low and she had trouble getting out. Key access card system often failed and left us standing outside the building or room. WiFi kept login us out and had to go through a lengthy login every 10 mins.

OK place in berkeley,ca
By ,
The staff was great, I lost my PDA at the hotel, this item was valued over 600.00. Called the manager the next day, and he told me he found the PDA, ask me a few questions about the PDA's info. and bam, even mailed it to me. WOW.. thats what i call hospitality. David Meyers

Nice stay
By ,
The hotel was well kept and the room was nice. The staff was friendly. We did smell someone burning insence when walking the hall to our room when we first checked in, but figured this was just what some people do when they are in Berkley. The smell was gone when we got back from dinner and we watched a great commedy special on HBO.

Not a Place to stay
By ,
Like the other reveiwer, I too had a miserable experience with this hotel. Rude and unhelpful staff...check. Rooms that were a mess...check (try no hairdryer, no shower curtain, and stalctites of some dark brown, calcified, root looking growths, growing down from the top of the shower!) No Lie! At midnight I called the front desk to complain about kids running in and out of the room next to us and slamming doors and it rang 18 times and no one answered. Puzzled, I dialed again and 10 rings later someone answered. So they nicely moved us the next night... to a room with no hot water! Oh yea, and the price from Hotels.com was over $100 a night. Actually, the price, had I talked to the sales person - $69 plus all the taxes. If it wasn't for the only nice person there - the sales lady - we'ld be out of luck but thankfully she gave us a free weekend. She no longer workes for this Hotel. Now I have to go back to this hotel again for the free night - I'm wondering if I should.

extremely unprofessional
By ,
I'm still arguing with them over a reservation screw up. The manager is totally incompetant. He can't even figure out how to change his voicemail message. That is, if he even answers his voicemail at all. The staff is just dumb, dumb, dumb...If you go to this hotel, document every conversation you have who it was with. Because they screw up then turn it around on you and ask how you can prove you were told x, y, and z.

The Best Western is much like a motel, marginally acceptable all around. They have remodeled to make the outward appearance look acceptable, but one can still tell that this is far from hotel status. The service was horrible. As with the other complaint, their policy on pillow and towel requests is odd and rude. When requesting an extra pillow, the staff thought we had stolen the provided pillow, and was thus requesting another. They then preceded in threatening to charge us "10 or 20 dollars" (he seemed to be making the number up as he went along) as a deposit for another pillow. He was also suspicious when we requested another towel because the hotel provided 3 (we had 4 people). Perhaps its just Berkeley and hotels have to act on such suspicions of theft, but for a hotel over a 100 dollars a night, I expected more than a 2 star motel experience.
