Taken for granted

This is a $50-$60 a night motel masquerading as a $80-$90 a night place. They get away with it because there's almost no competition in Jackson other than the Holiday Inn Express nearby, and nothing at all in the smaller neighboring communities. Worse, the area is being promoted as a "wine lovers hideaway", with many vineyards springing up and a few tasting rooms along a driving route. They'll need better infrastructure than this. More importantly, they'll need more professional staff; my room lacked toiletries when I arrived but when I traipsed back to the front desk to pick some up the woman on duty asked me what I meant by the term. "Towels?" No ma'am, soap, shampoo, that kind of thing. I told her I'd settle for something to wash my hands with and she informed me all she had was shampoo. It still took some prompting to get her to rustle up a bottle. (Gee, don't let me put you to any trouble.) Skip the Denny's next door in favor of a local place, Mel's. Great food and a chance to strike up a conversation with locals rather than tourists. My second day housekeeping forgot my room entirely, despite the fact I tip housekeepers. I did receive a room change for that, one in which the tv instructions actually matched the remote and the tv set, and the floor had actually been vacumned. These people have a natural funnel for business due to lack of competition, so they're just not trying very hard. Expect the hi-speed Internet to let you get online, but not to let you send e-mail. And no, they're not working to fix that.
