This hotel ruined my college graduation.
By Kelsey Victoria, 5/11/12
This was possibly one of the worst experiences of my life, this hotel ruined my special graduation weekend. My mother flew across the country with my father who is very handicapped and is in a wheel chair. She made a reservation for a ground floor handicapped room FOUR MONTHS AGO and today my aunt went to make sure everything was okay. She was informed that they would have a second floor room because they'd run out of ground floor rooms. Really helpful considering my dad is in a wheel chair and there is no elevator. My aunt tells them what my family needs and they say that they will be able to accommodate for when they arrive that evening. My mother finally makes it to the hotel, and not only do they not have a ground floor room but they are all out of handicap accessible rooms. They then had no other choice but send her to a strange hotel on the east side of town and have made no grievances to repay her for what they have done. I'm writing this yelp review so that everyone knows that the customer service here has LITERALLY been the worst I have ever experienced.

Very pleasant
By Alice, 1/29/10
We really enjoyed our stay here. The grounds were nicely landscaped, and the room had a nice fireplace and was unique in character. We stayed in the traditional (older) part of the hotel, and the room did have an antique feel to it. The front desk was very helpful. We are looking forward to our next trip to Tucson so we can stay there again.

Very bad vibes
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/8/08
I usually like funky old hotels like this, but found the room to be run-down, sad and smelly. The first thing that greeted us upon entering the room were dirty footprints on the floor just inside the entrance. I don't understand why they are building (noisy) a brand new lodge nearby when they can't maintain the one they already have. The mattress was the worst I have ever slept on in a hotel and the whole room had an uncomfortable, creepy feel, like something bad had happened here before. Maybe it was the location of the room, but the traffic noise seemed like it was inches away from us. I love Tucson, but would never stay in this place again or recommend it.

Disaster in the Desert
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/9/08
I booked this hotel through AAA because the facility seemed acceptable - the "heated outdoor pool" being an amenity we thought particularly useful. On our arrival on March 26, 2008, we found that the grounds and parking lot were all torn up. There is major construction occuring there. No one told us of this fact. The saws, air hammers, yelling, and heavy equipment begin at 7:00 o'clock a.m., Monday thru Friday. When we walked into our room at 4:00 o'clock p.m., we found that they hadn't cleaned from the previous lodger, i.e. used glasses and coffee cups all around, dirty towels on the floor, etc. Then, the day we arrived, we tried to use the "heated pool." The water was filled with debris and was murky. They closed it later that day. It never then re-opened. Then, the ice machine didn't work. The televisions are outdated, and the picture quality was poor. The room temperature control was not operational. There were signs of obvious water damage above the ceiling fan. Light bulbs were out in one of the lamps. Thank God we weren't there except to sleep after that. When I checked out, after paying $450.00 for our stay, I asked them to have a representative contact me. No one has yet. Next time, I will stay at an econo lodge-type hotel near an airport and pay $69.00 a night, because it couldn't be worse than our accomodations were. Oh by the way, the mattresses were excellent as was the maid service.

Dirty, not so friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/28/07
The reception smelled of mildewy airconditioning. Not a faint smell, an overwhelming smell. The room was dirty. The faciltiies need better maintenance. During breakfast, we were not seated in the area we wanted to, because the tables were 'reserved'. During the 45 min wait to actually get breakfast, the party showed up and occupied one of 8 avaialable tables. Ordering an omelette (which can't be found on the menu - go figure!), was an ordeal and cost extra, and it was a 1-egg omelette. Tiniest thing you've ever seen... I like boutique hotels, which was the reason for trying this one. However, I recommend you do NOT stay at this place.

lots of atmosphere, but
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/27/07
The desert/Mexican architecture and landscaping are calming and beautiful. Service was friendly. The dining area is charming, the service very good. My room was picturesque but a little over-the-hill: the bed felt old, some of the window-cranks were broken, there was hardened chewing gum on the carpet, paint on window panes, etc. For the prices they ask, I'd expect them to maintain the rooms better. The location is convenient to downtown and the university, but there's a lot of traffic noise from Alvernon. All in all, I might stay there again, but not if I can find another atmospheric place in a quieter location with better maintainance.

great place
By Alicia, 2/13/07
we loved our stay at the lodge at the desert and would highly recomend anyone to stay there. The rooms were very comfortable and spotless. We loved the atmosphere and charm of the hotel, you feel like you are staying at someones home. The staff was very nice. The only thing I would change is the menu at the hotel restaurant it was not very appealing. We hope to stay there again very soon.
