The Captain Bartlett Inn, Fairbanks

I would schedule all of the GM engineering people too Friday night All you eat crab legs, fish dinners at Capt Bartlett's. I would have the team members sign and date a dollar bill to put above the awing in the bar area. I was hopping it was still there, I wanted a picture of the bills to show at up coming group party !! (I'm a year late). We enjoyed Fairbanks and the community was wonderful to visitors (even for short duration), plus we completed our work without issue. Regards, Mark a. This hotel was torn down this past Spring (2010). It had been going down hill for years, as the corporate owners did not show much interest in it, and, indeed, for the last few years it was closed during the winter. This year it did not open, and the property was sold, and the building was torn down. It was sad to see it go, as before it was allowed to degenerate, it was a nice place, and we Fairbanksans patronized the restaurant and the bar, in fact we often scheduled local meetings and banquests at the Capt. Bartlett.

We had reservations for two evenings and had horrible experiences both nights. The first night consisted of pot smoke filling the hallway, yelling and screaming from a fighting couple across the hall, and staggering drunks hanging outside taunting people as they passed by. Even though the hotel states that the entire facility is smoke free, our room was filled with smoke by the people staying in the room next to us. It had a shared door that allowed their smoke to come on in. Management stated that since they couldn't see them doing it they couldn't do anything about it. The second night consisted of more of the same with the addition of a screaming couple on one side of us and more smoking on the other side. Once their lounge closed I suspect the people decided to continue the party across the hall and continue until daylight. The rooms are tiny and dirty and if you stay more than one night the room isn't serviced. We had to go and get towels and other items that weren't replinished. I recommend stying anywhere but this place. Your money would be better spent giving it away and sleeping in your car. Think twice before staying in this dive.

No latch on window. Bed was old, sagged in the middle and needed replaced. Did not feal safe in this neighborhood far away from restaurants, businesses, etc. Musty and smelled like smoke. North West Airlines put us here while plane was getting repaired. A terrible end to an otherwise great Alaskan vacation.

This hotel was extremely dirty, dark and dingy! The elevator was old and small, the halls are narrow and lead you to your room like a mouse in maze. We were on the 3rd floor at the end of a very long hallway. You concerned yourself about fires, which I have never thought about in other hotels. What actually shocked me is the Alaska Airlines actually puts their flight attendents in this hotel. We were told, it was because they could not negotiate a contract elsewhere. I would have to quit that airlines, if I was one of their employees. I would reccomend this hotel only to the health department in Fairbanks.

I disagree with other reviewers. I recommend this establishment to everyone! This Inn (motel) is in an ideal, safe location in Fairbanks and offers a great place to stay at a very reasonable price. I found it clean and very acceptable compared to even the highest priced motels/hotels in Fairbanks and Anchorage. I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever and will stay there every time. I fault customers who do not take the time to find the right room and then want to blame it on the hotel or the staff.. Wake up and Open your eyes. You get what you pick. I found the staff to be very, very nice. I was greeted with smiles and a big hello from both a man and woman at the front desk. I had no problems with water pressure, noise, smells, dirty rooms or bathrooms. In fact even the bathrooms in the lobby here was spotless and very fresh and clean smelling. I checked both bathrooms just so I could do a proper review. Directly across the road, are at least 6 resturants with one being a fantastic one called Airport Way Resturant, and a Denny's a block away and a Safway Grocery Store and Fred Meyers just down the street. Again, you get what you pick = eat in motels in Alaska and pay high prices as shown on all menus before you order. Also motels stopped their shuttles to Santa's House North Pole due to their customers complaining about what a rip off, tourist trap it is. (I was there and it is horrible, ornaments from China for $49.99 (yes Forty Nine Ninety Nine) that you can buy at the local WalMart for $3.99; owner is rude and almost demands you buy items. She follows customers around store till they buy or leave). Santa's House runs their own shuttle service from Fairbanks. I thank this Inn for stopping their shuttle to such a bad business.

This "Inn" is unbelievably filthy. The bedding in the midget sized room was so disgusting that we went to a sporting goods store and bought sleeping bags. The food was terrible, cold, and overpriced. The only saving grace was the Dog Sled Saloon within. My wife and I could actually drink our disgust away and pass out without the fear of being eaten by bugs. Lobby restrooms were horrendous and smelled like a subway platform. The staff were rude but the bartender and wait staff were very friendly. Misty and April were gracious attractive servers with wonderful smiles and rather large beautiful Alaskan breasts. Will the bartender was a hoot and told us hilarious stories about the local native patrons that he throws out of the bar on a nightly basis. All in all a great place to wet your whistle but next time I would sleep in my car!!

The rooms are much to small and have a moldy stench. The window would not open so we couldn't escape the gross smell. The "shower" is horrendous. There is just a measly trickle of water that is either freezing cold or boiling hot. This is no exaggeration, too. The food in their "Dog Sled Saloon" is way overpriced and horrible. The employees are mostly grouchy and disinterested. Probably their minds have been damaged from the overwhelming mold fumes. The management of this "inn" really need to consider updating and cleaning up this flea bag hotel. It is a public health hazard especially for people with weak immune systems. This dump is not worth the expensive rates. I don't mind paying market value for quality but just walking into this stinky place is not worth it. I have stayed in so many hotels around the country and world. This is the worst I have seen considering the big bucks you have to fork over for the rates. Consider staying at the Westmark in Fairbanks instead - it is well worth the price.

Staff were really great but hotel is old and very dusty - need new mattresses - don't go here if you have allergies

I agree I spent night at this hotel back in 2000 I agree if you want high class hotel go to Marinott or Best Western hotel in Fairbanks AK if you want nice down to Alaska hotel this is it HONEY
