Clarion Hotel Birmingham, Birmingham

I stayed at this hotel a year ago while I was in Birmingham for a conference, and it was not a great hotel stay, as I don't book my hotel stays, I was booked here again for Aug, 2009. This hotel has IMPROVED tremendously!! The rooms are in much better shape, the lobby is very cozy, and the front desk staff was EXCELLENT! The Hotel is clean and safe, was a great 4 days instead of a horrible 4 days. I went into the bar/restaurant every night for dinner and a drink they impressed me with such great food and great bar prices unlike most hotels who gouge! Thanks for a very pleasant stay!!!

Our room was on the first floor near the side entrance. There was traffic in and out of that door all night long because the lock was broken = no hotel security! There was also a tail-gate party in the parking lot that went on for several hours. After putting our elderly mother to bed, she complained of the smell of urine in the room. When I checked the chair near the bed, it smelled strongly of urine and so did the heater/airconditioner. After 3 hours of waiting for towels, I went to the front desk & got my own. I noticed that there was only one employee running the desk all evening with no one to accommodate guests needs. There were also cockroaches crawling in our room. Breakfast was 1/2 hour late because they were "training" a new person so we had no breakfast before our flight. I have traveled for 40 years, and have never had such a horrible experience.

This is a best western hotel, that has a clarion sign hung over the original sign. The cutomer service is horrible, the shower leaked and sprayed all over bathroom flooding it. We were charged 3 times for one night stay, when I called the manager the next day, theacted like she wasn't there when I could hear her screening the call in the background. Breakfast was horrible. They also placed us in the furthest corner of the hotel with only one elevator on the other end of the property. Do not stay here they act like you are troubling them by being there.

The best hotel experience I've had in a long time! The entire staff (without exception) was extremely friendly, helpful, and competent. The room was clean, quiet, loaded with amenities, and had plenty of elbow-room. There are several nice restaurants nearby if you choose to eat out. The breakfast is good and the coffee is great! They even negotiated with us on the conference room so we could stay within our budget. Overall, an extremely satisfying stay. I strongly recommend, and will definitely stay again when in Birmingham.

The hotel itself is very nice. They have great big suits and board-room suits. It was very clean and well kept. There is even a wing specifically for smoking rooms. There is also wireless availible in the rooms. The staff isn't very helpful. They were not willing to go out of their way to assist guests, but were nice and courteous. The restaurant food was good, but it was staffed by one bartender so the service, and the kitchen, was slow unless your sitting at the bar. The pool outside was closed, but they did have a nice area with a gazebo.

One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was the fact of a advertised hot breakfast. With an early airline departure, a hot breakfast was a requirement. Imagine our surprise when we got to the kitchen and found that there was no breakfast at all.. Nothing--The front desk did not care as it wasn't his problem. The rooms were comfortable, but could have used more cleaning care. Would I stay here again--No

Could barely fit wheelchair through handicap door. Complimentary hot breakfast consisted of microwaved sausage patties. Front desk was not very helpful. Business centers printing was not working. Room was not very clean. Had to unplug that lamp to use the microwave. Would more than likely not return. Room felt very cramped.

Traveled here on business. Arrived late (after midnight)-shuttle driver was very friendly- had complimentary bottled water waiting in the van, took me to get something to eat (knew a few places still open so late) and helped with my bags since I was carrying dinner. Entire staff very nice, great complimentary breakfast & really comfy bed. Recommend highly!!
