Exceptional value and location..plan to stay again
Overall, this is a charming place to stay for the price and very well located for most business or pleasure trips to Birmingham. I would recommend it, highly!
Found the staff to be very helpful and accommodating. Mentioned we were there for a special occaision and they upgraded us to a corner suite at no added charge. The overall experience was great and will definetly plan to stay here again!
The room was very spacious and well furnished and the extra space was nice, but the standard room would have been perfectly adequate for us. Found the bed a bit to firm and the linens a bit to coarse for our taste and the bath could use a few more towel racks, but a small negative, overall. The bath was a bit small, but not unexpected, as it is an older property that has been very tastefully restored (the lobby decor is a bit over the top for my taste, but fortunately not replicated in the room).
The area is one of the best in Birmingham for dining, but Monday night is not the best time to stay, as many of the area's better restaurants are closed, as was the hotel bar. We didn't have to go to far to find a great restaurant (Bottega), but we did have to get the car out of valet parking in order to get to it. It is best to pay for valet parking, as the closest public parking is around the back of the hotel and just wouldn't want to fool with it for the $10 additional charge. The hotel offers a decent, pretty standard breakfast included in the room charge. Shopping in the area is limited, but by car you can get to quality stores readily.
