THE place to stay while visiting Washington DC!
By grubbowl, 03/29/09
Everytime I travel to Washington DC, I must stay at the Alexandria (Sheraton) Suites. Because of the centralized location within Old Town Alexandria, many of the wonderful sites (i.e. King Street; the Potomac River; homes listed on the National Registry of Historic Places; the charming, well maintained homes and restaurants, etc.) are all within a few blocks of each other, and well within walking distance. Thanks to the shuttle that runs between the hotel and Reagan National Airport (which has a Metro Station just outside the main entrance to the airport), you can be at the National Monuments and Mall (Smithsonian Museums) within 20 minutes. I absolutely love this hotel and have recommended it to many of my colleagues, friends, and family. Every time I make the trip from Southern California to the beltway, I always stay at this hotel. Each time I check out, I immediately start planning my next trip. Yahoo! Travel may give this hotel a mere 3 stars; but, to me the Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria is a solid 5 stars. The Suites are immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, and provide everything you could possibly need while traveling. The charming atmosphere and availability of ammenities makes this a wonderfully relaxing home-away-from-home.

Not All That
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/18/07
Very gorgeous hotel. Parking's not free, but is it ever? There was a dead spider in the pull-out couch. Yuck. Otherwise, the room was pretty. Pretty small.

Lovely Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/07
This is a great place to stay if you want to visit Washington DC and have a restful haven to return to. The shuttle service was excellent, always on time, the drivers courteous and polite. The hotel is quiet and comfortable and the staff helpful. The location is also very nice, with good restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance. Overall, just a great experience and we highly recommend it and will definitely return!

dont trust the front desk
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/09/07
when we had to find another hotel to stay in for an extra night. they did not have a room. The people at the front desk recommended the Best Western. they said it was in alexandria. But what they did not tell us is that it was alomost to mount vernon. no public transportation and 7 long miles to the Metro..... Bad avise from the help at Sheridan. Stuck in the boonies with no where to go.

Great Place to Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/01/07
We stayed here 5 nights. It was clean, quiet, and the rooms were great. The breakfast buffet was good, and they didn't charge us for our 7 year old. No complaints and we would go back again.

Great Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/07
While on our family vacation to Washington, DC, our stay at the Sheraton was delightful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shuttle to the airport metro was easy and stress-free to get to Washington. The location was safe and had easy access to day trips to Mt. Vernon and Monteceillo. The pool, seperated rooms, refrigerator, microwave and on site washer and dryer was excellent for families. Good resturants across the street and grocery store 2 blocks away. King Street had access to more variety of resturants - plan on spending about $16.00 and up for adult dinners. Parking was somewhat steep at 18.00 a day, but it is a secure covered gargare that connects to the hotel. Overall, great experience and would highly recommend this hotel and area for Washington DC vacations.

Perfect accomodations for wedding reception
By A Yahoo! User, 11/26/06
Wedding planning staff are absolutely phenominal; taking care of every little detail for a perfect experiene. Wedding guests had not complaints about rooming accomodations and I returned for an anniversary and was just as impressed. Great place to stay if your just visiting DC too; regularly scheduled shuttle to Metro.

Good
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/06
They need to work on the service side at check-in. We requested address of a Restaurant in Washington DC and after multiple requests, we were told to check the yellow pages. They could have made the reservation and given us the address and notified us if the Restaurant was open on Memorial Monday. Interestingly, 15 minutes later, we got a somewhat awkward mapquest printout slipped into our room. Unecessary procedure, but at least face saving.

I Will Never Go Back!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/25/06
The front desk staff was not friendly and they certainly were not helpful. Our room appeared to be clean at first glance, but upon further looks, it was NOT... On our second day we were out until 3:30 and I still had to call to get the room cleaned. The coffee pot was broken and had to be replaced. I would have checked out after the first night, but we were meeting others, so that was not possible. I will not stay there again.

Awesome stay
By Lolli, 03/30/06
Just got back from a recent trip to Alexandria. Stayed for 3 nights and 2.5 days in a club level room. There isnt much to do in the area but antique shop. Tours of the city are offered, and there are a handful of small museums. Props: Room was nicely kept. Housekeeping cleaned up nicely after us. Got complimentary bottles of water each day. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Got complimentary rides to King Street (which is a 10-15 min walk, which shouldnt be bad now that the temperature is warming up) and to Reagan National (from which you can catch the Metro into DC. Now that it is warming up, you can also catch a ferry to DC)--all you have to do is ask. In my experience, the shuttle service offered by the hotel was superb. They only do pickups at specific terminals, but it is not hard to get from one terminal to the next--just hop on an airport shuttle and hitch a ride to the terminal you need to get to in order to take the hotel shuttle. There is no need to walk all the way from one terminal to the next as one reviewer did. Complaints: The "cooler:" This is not a refridgerator, as we initially mistakenly took it to be. It barely kept our drinks cool. The ice box: The one on our floor (9th) was broken during our stay. We had to go to a different floor for ice, which was inconvenient. Recommendations: Royal Restaurant: I loved their spaghetti and meatball. Oh so good! Drool. Fish Market: The Cacciucco was awesome, and the clam chowder is a must-have. King Street Blues: Beef chili is another must-have. Thought their andouille sausage Po'Boy was OK.
