We were told that the Ambassadeur in Juan les Pins was a four-star property. NOT! Maybe twenty years ago. Maybe SELF-rated. Service and food certainly rated, but the rooms themselves were two-star at best--tiny and with very low-quality furniture, rugs and bedding. Most American two-stars would put them to shame, but I am using European context for room size. Location a few blocks from beach, grocery, bank and boules park was a big plus. "Grotto" indoor pool was fun. Beds were SINGLES put together, each tucked in as a single--couples beware--you won't be sleeping together! No ice machines--the Brasserie will give you A GLASS of ice if you beg! No microwave, nor coffee machines (you CAN'T get coffee before seven AM). I could put up with it all, as I was in the Cote D'Azur and enjoying myself, but I was not deluded that this was a four-star hotel.
