Banana Bungalow Waikiki Beach, Honolulu

I live there for 3 months and the place was good service was ok the location was good easy to get anywhere. easy to get to the bus the beach the food store

Trip dates Jan. 11-18, 2005. We stayed in tower 2, 9th floor. This is not a 3-5 star hotel so don't expect it. However, for a place for your stuff while your off seeing the sights and having a good time this is an okay place to stay. Okay, yes, the 2 twin beds were pushed together to make a king and they had not moved the reading lamps. (watch your head at night or you wake up with a bump) Air conditioner was loud, but worked well. Bathroom was small, and quite frankly dingy. Insects? I didn't see any, but on a tropical island I'm not surprised other people did. Street noise? Wikiki is a major city, and a huge tourist trap. Yes we heard street noise. Kuhio street is a major thoroughfare. There are large sidewalks on both sides of the street and pedestrian crossings at every corner. In all honesty stay in tower 2 as high up as you can get. Avoid the lower rooms, and tower 1 if you want any sort of veiw at all. My parents were with us on this trip and I know for a fact that they would give a VERY different opinion of this condo-tel. They were on the 2nd deck of tower 1. No window, and faced a parking garage. (you can see where that review would be going) Ruth (Gladstone, MO.)

Entering the lobby of the hotel is extremely deseveing to what you find in the room itself. First the room(s)had a God AWFUL smell, the accessories looked to have been bought at a junk-yard or flea-market and appliances including the bathroom was flithy. I was afraid to use the telephone to call Travelocity for assistance in finding a different hotel. Aqua Kuhio Village sent us to their sister-hotel Continental Surf Hotel which was a REPEAT of what AKV was like, Neither hotel is worthy and/or safe for human occupancy. The Manager of AKV was rude and of no assistance in our request to find another hotel. These hotel(s) should never be contacted with any travel package offer, neither hotel earned Any star rating.

Cannot complain for the price I paid. One block from Kuhio Beach, a nice place to be 24/7, safe since police station nearby. Many interesting eateries for the budget conscious nearby. Location is away from the major hotels and pricey shops, and the "real" tourists. New management has made great improvements in facility and service. I'll stay there again. If you want something under $100, this is the place. If you want a 5-star hotel, go to Hilton, Hyatt, and Sheraton and you will get what you pay for ($250++)

it is one block from waikiki beach in heart of waikiki / far cheaper rates than any hotels in waikiki. rooms are studios and larger than hotel rooms and have all the kitchenette requirements and very clean

The location was great only a block from the beach. The hotel was really dirty the elevators were really scary and the halls were very, very dirty. As long as you are not looking for 5 stars and yes cockroaches which was no big deal because last time I was at the Sheraton and we found cockroaches there too. For the value and location it was good. We ended up buying our own towels as the hotel ones were questionable and smelled very bad of milldew. And yes to have your room cleaned there was an extra charge. But for someone with an open mind and someone on a budget it was great. ( compared to the hostel it was a 5* resort)

In my 2 week stay in Honolulu, this was by far the worst experience of my trip. I found the hotel on line and made my reservations for 3 people. Upon checking in they gave me a room with one bed and when attempting to change rooms for two beds I had to wait at the counter and listen to the receptionist argruing with her bank about bounced checks and her account before I could get service. Then even though my reservation said for 3 she tried to tell me it was for 2. I got so frustrated that I went down the street and found accomondations at the Sheraton. For an extra 25.00 I got a hotel with actual ocean views and a pool. At the same time I was leaving there were other groups leaving as well with complaints such as the site said they had a pool, in which case they did not. My reservation was for a room for 3, with ocean view and kitchenette, I recieved a room with one bed, a view of the other tower facing the mountians and a microwave. I would not reccomend any one that I associate with to stay at this establishment.

Wanted to stay longer! Excellent location. Excellent value!

The hotel is a hangout for transient individuals, many times while walking into secure areas they wait to walk in behind guests to visit people who live there. The elevator waiting area is filthy dirty the rugs have not been cleaned in years. All of the floors leading to rooms are very dirty, outdoor carpeting in hallways have never been cleaned. Our room had been cleaned with bleach and the smell was horrible and toxic. We had to request another room and had to wait until the next day to move. I was ill Because of the dirty areas where guests walk to get to their rooms, I could not take off my shoes in my own room. I felt it was necessary for me upon checking out of the hotel to report my experience to the Health Department in Honolulu.
