Grand Dining Room Dreadful for Vegan Food
By thrillracer, esq., 2/14/13
Sunrise Buffet is a rip off for vegans. The hash browns have dairy and eggs! Miso soup has fish. Yuck! Their online menu says they have Gorilla Munch cereal, but they don't! They need to take a lesson from the Wynn Las Vegas. Buffets are for fatsos anyway.

Absolutley Fantasic!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/11
The Grand Wailea is by far my favorite resort I have ever been to. Everything about it draws you in. The gardens and landscape are a work of art. Everything is perfect. The views are simply spectacular and it is not possible to run out of things to do. The Pools are probably the coolest thing about the place. The resort sits right on the beach and it is within a short distace of everything in Maui. My family stayed for 8 days and it was one of the best vacation we've had in a long time. I Highly recommend staying here if you have the means, because it is fairly pricey, but it is definitley worth the money. I cant wait to go back!!!

No Class
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/11
My billing was messed up and I was over charged on my Room Charges and my credit card and no one from Front Office could assist or had the ability to make corrections. I was transferred to accounting office and spoke to the most rude person in the accounting office with the name of Amy. She was rude and with my annoyance of my charges it did not help that she was unpleasant, insincere, unhelpful and just plain rude. She ruined my visit and i hope the Grand Wailea take notice that big prices for food, room and reputation also needs employees that have "aloha" and enjoy giving "aloha". Very dissatisfied.

Grand Wailea
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/15/11
We visited the Grand W in September-October of 2010. I have to say, we had a wonderful experience. Everything was gorgeous. The rooms weren't as "grand" as I would have thought they would have been for 700/night, but the pool made up for it. The food was extremely expensive, but we wanted to venture out, and found delicous places to eat! I was a bit upset there was a charge for a fridge in the room, but it didnt "ruin" my vacation. We are heading back there this year over thanksgiving, and I have reasearched repeatedly different hotels to cut the cost down, becuase we have lost a lot to a flood that destroyed our city. Having booked our non-refundable tickets, we have to go, but wanted to keep the cost down. I have looked into the membership, and am thinking this might be the way to go.

I'd Go Somewhere Else Next Time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/11
The resort was very beautiful with much foliage and art. However, getting anywhere required some walking either throught the meandering paths or multiple elevator trips and a walk through the main lobby. The food was decent but very, very expensive, even at the "inexpensive" cafeteria like Cafe Kula. However, I understand that food is expensive everywhere on the island. But $12-20 for drinks was a kind of ridiculous. Our room was in the Molikini Tower and was decent sized and the bathroom was very nice. But the view was basically of the air conditioning plant and parking garage. The beach was nice but the pools were pretty full until evening. There were a lot of children and I don't really see this as a place for a romantic vacation. I don't think I would have wanted to spend that much money when my children were young. But there seemed to be a lot of activities for youngsters. I took the "free" beach yoga class( but don't forget the $20/day activity fee which must basically just cover your beach towels) and found the instructor that day quite obnoxious. She made numerous references to how many people had turned up and basically catered to people who already seemed to be very proficient at yoga. Oh well. I loved Maui and would return but would stay somewhere else a bit less expensive and spend my money on other things.

Simply The Best
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/14/11
We've been members at Grand Wailea for 15 years. We return each year, and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. The GWR is always spotless, elegant, beautiful, breathtakin, from an early morning sunrise walk around the grounds to a romantic evening stroll along the most beautiful beach on Maui, the GWR is perfect. We've never experienced any of the service problems complained of on this blog, which makes me somewhat suspicious of the comments. The only limitation I have now is that the restaurant offerings are rather skinny with only the Bistro Molokini and Humuhumu...so we head off to the Four Seasons for Pucks and Ferraros which are magnificent, or next door to the Wailea Shops for dinner at Ruth's Cris, Longhis or Tommy B's. But the rooms, the grounds, the fabulous pools, the Spa -- absolutely second to none! -- and the superb service bring us back to GWR every time. We love it here! Can't wait to return in a couple of months...

Very Good Hotel, much better than reviews
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/16/11
This hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed in, and i don't know why people are giving it so much trash. My family and I stayed in the Napua Tower, which is above the main lobby. The grounds are gorgeous, and are beautifully kept. Getting a lawn chair isn't a problem, unless you come at noon and expect a chair right neer the pool. My family and I usually ended up going near the first kids pool, at the top of all of the waterslides and little pools. Those were never crowded when we tried to get a chair at 9am. Very famous art and statues (they have a picasso!). Very good/clean hotel and grounds, and would reccomend it to families (as i am a 14 year old teenager).

Planning my vacation and reading reviews........
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/25/11
I read everyones reveiws of the G.W. and considered the fact it seems to have an amazing pool, high prices for everything, long walks to get anything, questionable cleanliness, lack of views in some rooms, intimidation factors for those bold enough to question the mob mentality of the place, and have decided that we will be taking our vacation anywhere else but this place even if it were free. I can't imagine anyone treating me like some of you have been on a very expensive vacation and not report these people to the BBB, other helpful agencies to get your money back. Thank you all for helping me plan where not to go. Saving lots of my money...........PRICELESS!!

Location doesn’t mean everything.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/10
I’ve been to Maui many times, and the Grand Wailea seemed like a nice place to make base camp. After all it had water slides, it was on nice grounds, so what could go wrong? Well, let me put it this way, I’m writing this from the room while the rest of my family can’t pack fast enough. I had been here before and had experienced many disconcerting problems, but I figured, anyone can have a bad week. Little did I know that all though problems were not anomalies and appear to be almost a policy. $250 - $750 a night is a lot of money to secure your family in having a bad vacation. If your idea of a vacation is a restful and peaceful place with a courteous staff, the Maui’s Grand Wailea is not your hotel. I can go on and list all the many problems with the Maui Grand Wailea, but I’m sure the limiter on these reviews would cut me off. You want some specifics… 1. You now have to pay for a refrigerator 2. Now the hotel staff continually rolls refrigerator carts, up and down your hallway which is made of a thick Spanish tile. If you can’t picture it, just think of continuous freight trains rolling past your door every 5 minutes, day and night. This continuous noise and shaking also comes from the luggage and in-room dining carts. 3. Management doesn’t really care. No return call from GM, and front desk manager has no effect. 4. Continuous maintenance on adjacent rooms both times I was here. 5. Hugely expensive drinks and food. Kind of expected, but note just a fountain coke is $7.50. 6. Don’t expect many of the restaurants to be open. 7. And the room keys. What a joke. Last time I was here I spent two days getting my door lock replaced, this trip I just get locked out every other day. 8. They actually made my paying 19 year old daughter leave the fitness center because they said she had to be at least 16 years of age. 9. The room last time was in a hole and had no view. 10. If you let the resort plan an off site excursion to include your 18 year old son, make sure he brings 3 forms of picture ID. Without it, an 18 year old, who’s been driving his very expensive car will not be allowed on an ATV. There is much more, but the bottom line in this review was derived from two different stays, so I am confident that Maui’s Grand Wailea Resort is a great place to get your vacation ruined.
