AWFUL EXPERIENCES HAD BY ALL! WORST EVER!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/7/11
I found this motel on the internet. We decided to go to Hermann for spring break. I took my teenage kids and at the time I booked the 2 rooms, I was not able to find other accomodations that would accept visitors under 18. The pictures on the internet looked nice, which was very deceiving! It also said the motel was close to everything...NOT the case. When I booked I was told it was a few blocks from the Amtrak station...NOT the case either. After walking 6 blocks, we stopped to eat at a local restaurant. The server asked where we were staying since we were walking with luggage (a lot of luggage!) in the snow. When I told her, she gave me the card of the restaurant owner and said to call because she also owned a B & B. She said she wouldn't want her enemy saying at the Hermann Motel and if we explained our situation, she would allow my kids to stay. We finished walking to the Motel (more than a mile south, not by anything!) to see what we had gotten ourselves into. When we got there, I asked to see the room before paying, the staff was rude and refused. She told us the card had already been charged and no refunds or cancellations are given. I thought we would make the best of it and got our key and went to the rooms. The rooms were HORRIBLE! Since my kids were along, I got 2 rooms. The first thing I did when I got to my room was open the door adjoining both rooms. The door fell off of the hinges! I wasn't expecting that, which caused the door to fall on me. We called the front desk and nothing was done. After that things only got worse! The curtains were ripped from the hooks which allowed light in. There was a 1 inch gap between the outside door and the floor (it was snowing out!), so I had to constantly run the heater which didn't seem to matter because of the gap. When I took a shower the second day, the water was cold. I told the front desk and the lady told me that the thermostat had been broken for a while (we were NOT told we would not have hot water during our stay). The water was so cold, my kids couldn't even take showers. The next day, the water was colder, so no one took showers. In addition, the TV remote in my room had no batteries (the front desk wouldn't give us any), and my kids' room didn't even have a remote. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting! The tubs had mold and looked like they hadn't even been wiped down for months. The carpets hadn't been carpeted and one bed looked like it had been slept in prior to us arriving. There was supposed to be continental breakfast included; it consisted of bread, one english muffin that was so hard I couldn't get it apart to toast and expired milk. I made coffee in the broken coffee pot (because the front desk would not give us coffee for the pot that was in the room) that continued to overflow until I managed to get the water disconnected. We had to take the trolley everywhere we went because it was too far to walk anywhere once we got to the hotel. The trolley was the BEST part of the trip! During our time in Hermann, I was given several tour guide books. Each one of them depicted the Hermann Motel as a good place to stay. The Hermann Motel should not be allowed to FALSE advertise in those publications!!! The Chamber of Commerace should not endorse, associate or provide anything related to the Hermann Motel to ANY person!
I wasn't expecting 4 star quality for the price I paid. BUT, I wasn't expecting what I got either. I wish I would've done more research and paid the extra $50 or so it would've been to stay at a B & B. We are planning on goin gback to Hermann this summer. I am definately NOT staying at the Hermann Motel! I have told everyone I know about the horrible experience we had at the Hermann Motel and will continue to tell eveyone I can with every chance I get!!!
P.S. worse than AWFUL!
