GREAT GETAWAY FOR A FEW DAYS OR STOP OVER ANYTIME

This place is being totally overhauled and updated. Our family has been coming up to the Smoke House for over 20 years, and we've seen alot of changes over this time. Mr Oliver (whom we've met several times on our trips) started the business in 1960 and ran it till his death a couple of years ago, since then the kids have taken over, and they are really making some improvements now. We've stayed in the cabins and rooms over the years and noticed a bit of wear and out dated furniture in the facilities, but this visit we noticed all that is changing. We like the newly remodeled cabins, everything in there has been redone, new leather furniture, new kitchen appliances, old iron bed with new comfortable mattress, new bath fixtures, stacked stone fireplace, new flat screen TV, and they're still working on the outside stuff. The lodge clerks said that they're working on updating all the lodge rooms too. The gift shop is a step back into an old General Store, with old fixtures and antiques, soft drinks in glass bottles, peanuts, homemade fudge, and an old 1920's player piano playing music. Great entertainment. Just recently, Country Music Legends "The Louvin Brothers" put in their museum in the store and the Olivers have started a moonshine museum with video and artifacs of old tools and a moonshine still. The gift shop girl told us that they're building new bathrooms in the store too, so looks like they're working everywhere, but the atmosphere is still old fashioned country spirited, I don't think that will ever change. We enjoyed it all. We love the great BBQ Ribs and Fried Chicken and Catfish, fried green tomatoes, turnip greens and corn bread, and fried pies. We always eat most of our meals here, all are great. The prices are worth what you get for sure. We'll be back and we always reccommend to others.
