Capt Thomson's Resort, Alexandria Bay

My hysband and I have been staying here for many years (more than 30 days each year). We would not stay anywhere else. We love the convenience of the location to downtown A-Bay, Uncle Sam's Boat Tours and Cap's Landing Restaurant. We are sad that Cap's Landing will close as we don't want to loose the view of the river and any passing ships. We would recommend this resort for anyone interested in a fun time with outstanding service and facilities. There is nothing to dislike.

smelly, old, beat furniture, terrible bedding. Staff was like, well, yeah it smells, so what.As outdated as a hotel could be. We had stayed there for over 25 years, never again.This is my second posting, first one seemed to disappear.Other travelers need to know how bad this place has become.

My boyfriend and I went in August and absolutely loved this place. We had an excellent view of Boldt Castle and our own private balcony. The place was very clean. Everybody was very friendly and it was close to Uncle Sam boat tours and basically close by to alot of attractitons. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone going to Alexandria Bay.

We stayed at Capt Thomson's in June of this year (08) and truly enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were very clean and the breeze that blew across the private patio (which was right over the water and across from the castle), made it difficult not to drift off if you sat still for more than 2 minutes. We sat on the balcony and wathed the boats and ships for hours while enjoying our wine and cheses. The people at the front desk were very friendly and coureous and we had a very nice lunch at the on site restaurant one afternnon. We're from Las Vegas and would go back a couple of times a year if we lived closer. I felt as if we stepped back in time as we visited the local shops, the ice cream parlor, the home-made fudge shop and the pizza parlors. We highly recommend Capt Thomson's to our friends who live in New York State and to you if you are a true "romantic". Looking at the lite castle during the night from your balcony is something you will never forget. And, the uniqness of the location made it worth the price.

This turned out to be a great location. We stayed on one of the 2-night packages which included a dinner, a couple breakfasts, and the boat tours. Our room overlooked the harbor which was OK for us. We arrived and the front desk lady was very helpful and informative. Explained everything. The nicest think about this location is that we did not use our car for two days. Everything we needed was a short walk away.

We went to Capt Thomson's resort on our honeymoon 21 years ago, and have gone back ever since. The service has been consistent for the most part. The worst thing that happened was the removal of table nnd chairs from the balcony one year. The location is first rate. We sit and look over Boldt Castle at night and there's no better place to relax. The value is very good, but where did the $59 price come from? It's more like $150 in the summer on the channel.

Smokey smelling, stinky rooms, portions infrastructure falling into river - this is awful! I'm not wasting any more time - this whole town, Alexandria Bay NY, could use a THOROUGH cleaning-up, and a re-investment if they want to keep tourists coming-----if not, there are plenty of other places!

We've been going to Cap't Thomson's for 20 years, and we always enjoy it. The views are perfect, the balconies private, and now that they have a restaurant, you don't have to leave! The Uncle Sam boat tours leave right from their front door, and a walk around Alex Bay is the perfect summer evening activity.

WE COME HERE EVERY YEAR. WE CAN ENJOY THE SCENERY AND C JUST HANG OUT. GREAT PLACE, LOOKING FORWORD TO JUNE AGAIN THIS YEAR. WE RATE IT THE BEST

This resort is perfectly located for enjoying the best of the St. Lawrence River. There is nothing like watching the sites from your balcony: the ships, Boldt Castle, the activity in the Alex Bay Harbor or the Blue Heron fishing. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the place is clean though not elegant, operates the best restaurant in the area which is next door - Captain's Landing, and it just happens to float. A short block away is the cute little funky town of Alex Bay. A short drive away is the more upscale town of Clayton with it's Antique Boat Museum and boutiques. The pool could be bigger. Can't wait to go back!
