Nonsmoking rooms? Ha.

We booked a nonsmoking room with a king bed and were knocked over when we opened the door. Because the room had 2 queen beds, not the king we expected, and the stench was unbearable, we went back down to the lobby to question the assignment. We were told that the king bed was not guaranteed and that there were no other rooms available. They offered to spray the room and give us a discount on breakfast. I had already checked the whole town, including Motel 6, and there were no vacancies anywhere. They sprayed the room, so it smelled like cheap perfume and smoke. We also noted that there was an ashtray in the bathroom and a large industrial one on the balcony. Hmmm.
So we had no choice. We had to stay and woke up with sore throats and headaches from the second hand smoke. The next morning, when we complained and questioned the $230 charge for the room, the manager on duty told it it was in fact a smoking room, and that we should have been assigned to a different one the night before. She wanted to give us a voucher for another night. Right, like we ever want to stay there again. Eventually she agreed to take 50% off the charges. What a nightmare. I will never spend another night in a Doubletree hotel.
